My Beauty Diary Sheet Mask Review

As you may or may not know, I've been getting more interested in Asian beauty products.  The claim (and truth, too) seems to be that Korea, especially, is ahead of the curve in the skincare market.  Even magazines like Marie Claire are admitting that Asian beauty products are ten years ahead of the curve.  South Korea is the 12th largest producer of beauty products in the world!  Part of this is because there is less "red tape" when it comes to introducing new skin care ingredients.

Snail slime anyone?  Yes.  This seems to be a big trend right now.  I have some samples of this type of product (Thank you, Beauteque) but have been loathe to try it.  Until I read this study and discovered there is actually a method behind this madness!  I'll write all about it another time.

Koreans have been using sheet masks, oils for hydrating and cleaning and charcoal soaps long before they ever showed up on this side of the water.  I'm pretty sure they invented the BB cream since Missha had them out for about five years before beauty houses like Clinique and Estee Lauder started pumping out their own.

Korean women (and men!) care very much about their skin.  In fact, while here in the U.S. we buy 70% make up and 30% skincare, Asian countries are the opposite.  Far more goes into their skin than painted on their faces.  The mantra is that beauty begins with the skin so you must take care of it first. This is also why sunscreen is so important in any Korean beauty regimen. Just like it should be for yours and mine.  Keeping your skin safe from the suns UV rays is important for keeping a smooth and even skin tone.

There's so much more to say on this topic, I think I'm going to have to divide it up or I'll have a book on my hands!

My title is slightly facetious, I admit.  My Beauty Diary is a Korean beauty brand.  Beauteque kindly sent me a few samples to review and this was the first one I tried.  I've become a little more familiar with sheet masks due to my plethora of subscription boxes but this is the first one that I've used that had Hyaluronic Acid in it.

I don't want to go into too much detail (yet) but Hyaluronic Acid (or sodium hyaluronate) is a truly wonderful moisturizer.  It is produced naturally in our bodies and can hold 1000 times it's weight in water.   As we age, so does our production of hyaluronic acid slow down causing our skin to look thinner. Luckily, your skin is able to absorb it and will use it to keep your skin plump and hydrated!

I used my My Beauty Diary Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Mask last night.  This was after two pretty dehydrating days in the sun and I could tell my face wasn't thrilled about it.
None of the directions were in English so I looked it up.  Oh, Google, you are amazing.

After I washed my face, I put the mask on for half an hour.  The online directions indicated that any remaining serum should be gently massaged into the skin with your fingertips.  I was specifically warned not to wash off the excess but to proceed with my daily skin care routine.
I used this before I went to bed and I was kind of glad I was in my PJ's because this mask was quite soppy. It dripped all down my neck but I made sure to massage it in being obedient to the directions.

While I think something like this would take awhile to "work" basically what it's doing is causing your skin to absorb sodium hyaluronate (listed in the ingredients).

Sodium Hyaluronate is the "salt" of hyaluronic acid and is just as effective but it is much smaller and size and can penetrate through the top layer of your skin to the deeper layers.  So you are providing several layers of your skin with hydration!  Hyaluronic Acid also helps your skins absorption of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that promotes collagen growth, which your skin definitely needs as you age.  Plump, hydrated skin is healthy skin!

While my skin was happy, the one thing I noticed was my neck.  Now the mask didnt even cover my neck but remember I mentioned how it dripped (copiously)?  All of that I had massaged into my neck so that it wouldnt make a big mess while I sat at my computer.  If I could explain this easily, I would try.  Okay, I'll try anyway.

You know how, when you pinch the skin on the back of your hand you can tell whether you are dehydrated or not by how quickly the skin goes back to its place?  (You can do this with dogs, too, on the back of their neck.  If you pinch their skin and it doesn't release but stays in a pinch, they need water).  Well, my neck has been my sore point as I've gotten older.  I hope this isn't TMI but when I pinch the skin on my neck under the my chin, it STAYS for a second, before it goes back to normal!  I hate it!  It makes me feel old and wrinkly!
Anyway, I tell you all that to say that my neck did NOT do that this morning! Now I only had one mask so I can't repeat my experience but I may have to get more!

This is the product I used: My Beauty Diary Hyaluronic Acid Mask
One more great thing about it is that it does not contain parabens, alcohol, mineral oils, pigments or flourescent agents so you can happily use this
without worry!

This product is good for any skin type and is highly moisturizing which will cause your skin to look firm and bright.

I've already ordered some straight up Hyaluronic Acid (well, its mixed with water but thats it) so that I can slather it on my face along with everything else. I'll let you know how that goes when I get it.
