Tony Moly Egg Pore Blackhead Out Oil Gel Review

One thing I've noticed about Korean beauty products is that the names are sort of out of control. I'm not sure if it's because they just translate that way or because there is a secret penchant for super long, extra descriptive names.

I first heard about these when they showed up in a Memebox and I fell in love with the adorable packaging. So of course I was thrilled when Beauteque kindly offered to give me the chance to try this egg for review purposes!

This TonyMoly Egg is all about your pores.  It is a cleansing oil with a gel consistency and has "magic beads" suspended in it.  A combination of egg elements, exfoliating capsules and camellia flower are promised to give your pores a deep cleaning without irritation.  It also promises to purify your skin, help control excess oil and nourish your skin to keep it vibrant and healthy.

The packaging is pretty cute.  Unfortunately it leads to messiness and product everywhere.  Upon opening it for the first time, there was gel leaking out the sides of the yellow (yolk!) seal.  After my first use, I cleaned it up and then sealed it again... Or tried to.  The gel gushed out all over.  I finally decided it was probably okay without being actually sealed.

This gel is not really as dark as the picture makes it look.  It's clear with little yellow beads in it.
The directions for use are to massage it into your clean skin for 2-3 minutes, concentrating on your problem areas.  Then wash it off with lukewarm water.

A little gel goes a long way, I must say.  You don't need much at all.  This felt very slick and oily on my skin which isn't something I'm used to.  I know many people swear by oil cleansers but I haven't used one before.  As you massage the gel into your skin, it will turn white and a little foamy.  The package says turns white because of the product mixing with sebum but really I think it's just the emulsifier they used.

I had a hard time finding the ingredient list in English but I finally got it!  The good ingredients are Sunflower Oil, Macadamia nut, Camellia Oleifera, Tocopheryl Acetate, Camellia Sinesis, Retinol, collagen, and Sodium Hyaluronate.  There's plenty of antioxidants from plant extracts in it, too.  The retinol, collagen and sodium hyaluronate are pretty low on the list and since this is a wash off cleanser the retinol doesn't really do any good.

If you are looking for a more natural product, this is not the one for you.  It does contain parabens.
This is marketed for sensitive skin but looking at the ingredients there is alcohol and citrus extracts in it.  Granted the citrus is basically the bottom of the list but it can cause irritation if you are especially sensitive.

My skin isn't too sensitive and I didn't experience any irritation from this product at all.  I made my husband use this as well.  He has the biggest pores ever on his nose (he HATES it!).  I examined him closely before and after and it definitely did clean everything out!  My pores are smaller so it's harder to tell.  While he insisted that he was going to break out from using this, he did not and he actually asked to use it again the next day. I had to open it up for him because he is apparently too much of a man to deal with adorably cute packaging. :)

The end result after a few uses is super smooth, extra soft skin.  No product can actually reduce the size of your pores and this one doesn't claim to do that.  Does it clean effectively? Yes!  Does it clean out your blackheads?  For the most part, yes.  This is a gentle, exfoliating gel and it has astringent properties which definitely can keep you from getting more blackheads with use, as well.

The TonyMoly Egg Pore Blackhead Out Oil Gel is what I consider a gentle oil-based exfoliator more than a way to magically "disappear" your blackheads.  It does leave the skin soft and smooth, it will clean your pores and the packaging is seriously cute.  I'm going to continue to use this because I like how it makes my skin feel.

You can purchase this TonyMoly Egg and other great Korean/Asian beauty products at Beauteque. They are currently having a Memorial Day Sale with 20% off selected items and Free Shipping!! The great thing is that they are USA based so you don't have to worry about customs or a super long wait.  Based on what I've received from them, the shipments go out quick and are fantastically packaged.  Plus, they offer free samples with their orders!  It's great way to try new brands and products.  I loved some of my samples so much I had to buy full sizes.  Make sure you go to the free samples tab and add your choice to your cart if you choose to purchase.

    1. I forgot to mention that! It would probably have to be an herb of some kind because it doesn't have a whole lot of room for roots. It would look cute on the counter, too.

  2. I think I have to check this crazy contraption out! I hate my large pores and blackheads. Your persuasive powers must be spot on if you can get your husband to try out products! My other half believes he'll end up smelling like a girl if he uses any of my stuff. Boys.

    1. He did sniff it first!!! It doesn't smell like much so it was apparently acceptable. LOL! He only used it because he hates his pores so much. I basically had to promise not to tease him about it :P
