Urthbox Medium Classic Box June 2014 Review

When my June 2014 Urthbox arrived I couldn't wait to review it! The first thing I have to say is that this was a pretty big box.  I got the Medium size and by subscription box standards, I would say this box was large!
First look!  I was happy to see a lot of different packages under the coupons.  Actually, I think I don't understand the coupons.  As you can see it says that it is a $10 gift card toward your first order.  Except you can't order anything because the only thing they sell is subscriptions.  So maybe it's $10 off a subscription?
The Cost:  This particular box is $29.  It is the Medium Classic box.  They also have a Small box for $19 and a Large box for $49.  Shipping is free.  Get $10 off with the code CRUNCHWEEK

What You Get:  The small box has 7-10 products, the Medium has 12-15 and the Large has 20-24.  In Classic, Gluten-Free, Vegan and Diet box options, they send you foods, beverages, snacks and more that are NON-GMO, Organic and All Natural focused right to your door every month.

The Classic. This is the do-it-all box with no dietary restrictions.
The Gluten-Free. This box offers the same service as The Classic, but in 100% Gluten-Free.
The Vegan. This box offers the same service as The Classic, but in 100% Vegan. No animal products or animal ingredients.
The Diet. This box offers the same service as The Classic, but with a strong emphasis on weight loss metrics including low calorie counts, low carbohydrate counts and low fat values.

The box I have is the Medium Classic because I'm not Vegan, Gluten-Free or on a Diet.
Check out the contents of this box!!!  You can't even SEE all the stuff because there was so much I couldn't get it all in the picture!  I was VERY impressed!!  The one thing that I wish was included is an information card telling why they chose what they chose to put in this box.  I guess I didn't realize how much I liked those until there isn't one.
Naturalsins Crispy Beetroot Thins-  Okay, so I despise beets but my husband LOVES them.  To me, it's like eating dirt and I did enough of that playing house and making mud pies when I was a kid.  These are "baked-dried" and have two ingredients.  Beets and cane sugar.  I gave them to my husband and he says they are amazingly beet flavored and if you like beets you'll love these.  Yuck.

Vintage Italia Pasta Chips in Garlic Olive Oil-  Now this is more my style.  Garlic? Pasta? I'm there.  And these are AMAZING!  I mean, Whoa, garlic! amazing.  So good.  Super salty tasting with 250mg sodium per serving (2 in the bag).  Yum.  These would be so good with a dip!

Then there is the mysterious gift card thing.  It says you can spend the money in their Urthshop but I can't find a shop anywhere on their website.  They also included a card that says if you post a picture on Twitter they will give you $1 but you have to "email the evidence".  That's a lotta work.  Hm.  Maybe they are planning on having a shop?
Saffron Road Bombay Spice Crunchy Chickpeas-  I love chickpeas!  This is a nice big bag at 6oz!  These have a spice meter that puts them on the Hot side since they are covered in Bombay spices.  At least I didn't get the Wasabi flavor that's shown on the back! Ack.  I'm a spice wimp and I know it.

Seaweed Love Original Roasted Seaweed- All natural, roasted to perfection with sesame oil and a touch of sea salt.  I don't like seaweed but my MIL does.  It's good til March of next year, maybe I'll stick it in her stocking...  Or is that weird?

Ground Based Nutrition Superfood Protein Smoothie- This shake has a blend of plant proteins, greens, fiber, healthy fat, vitamins, minerals and digestive enzymes.  Its got spirulina, alfalfa, peas, brown rich and hemp seed proteins.  All I know is that I'm not a horse so that sounds terrible.  However, I have a vegan friend who would probably love this! (No, she's not a horse either). :D

Missy J's 3 Truffley Treats-  For a moment I was super happy and then I read that these truffles are made with carob.  Carob actually isn't that bad but I personally prefer chocolate.  This also has coconut and almonds... Hmm... that might help me overcome the no chocolate part.  I love coconut.
Peeled Snacks Apple Clusters in Berry Crunch-  These are organic, gluten free snacks made with apples, apple juice and organic potato starch.  I can't believe they can make something so tasty with so few ingredients! Yum!

Katapult Daily Survival Superfood in Brain Forest- Acai, Cinnamon and Guarana along with banana, lime juice, agave nectar, and cashews make up this snack.  I'm really interested in this snack!  It sounds tasty.  I would open it now but it's got no preservatives and I've been snacking on so much already.  I bet its tasty.

Snikiddy Eat Your Vegetables in Sea Salt-  I just tried this brand in a Love with Food box!  These are veggie chips wth Kale.  I really like veggie chips so I'm sure I'll like these too.  If I don't my husband will.  He likes beets and he likes kale.

Sunrype 100% Fruit Strip in Strawberry Watermelon-  Okay, so remember how I said I wasn't going to try anything else?  I lied.  When I saw that it was Strawberry Watermelon I couldn't resist. SO GOOD!   Really, really good.  It actually tastes like strawberry and watermelon with absolutely zero weird chemical flavor.  I'm hunting these down and buying more.  So good.

Home Free Mini Vanilla Cookies- Gluten Free and nut free, made with organic fruit juice and cane juice.  These vanilla cookies look good.  There are 7 of them and they are about the size of Nilla wafers.
Smooch Apple Raspberry and Peach Fruit Snack-  This is a juice drink.  It's 100% natural.  It's strangely made in Spain.  It's contents include apple, peach, raspberry, chia seed, acerola and a dash of lemon.  That's it!  Sounds tasty to me.

Roots-  Blueberry flavor.  A delicious blend of powdered vegetables and fruits.  I really do not like this kind of thing.  It's powdered veggies that you add to... Water, I'm guessing?  It doesn't say.  Guess what the second ingredient is? Beets!  So yeah, not for me.  I'll feed it to DH somehow :D

Nature's Bakery Raspberry Fig Bar-  100% Natural.  These are like fig newtons!  There are two in this package.  Not my favorite (I tried them in a... Popsugar box, I think?) but definitely edible.

VERDICT:  Honestly, I think this box is amazing.  Really!  Sure, I'm not going to eat everything but between my husband and I, it will all be taken care of.  If you are at all interested in natural, organic, vegan or gluten-free types of food, this is probably the best box I've seen for this.  Definitely it has the best value.  This is a lot of snacks and they are all good for you.  If you have kids, there is sure to be something someone wants in this box.  This was FOURTEEN (!!!) healthy snacks!  I think I used a coupon for this box and got it for $20 (regular price would be $29) and I think it's worth it.

You can get your first box for $10 off by using the code CRUNCHWEEK at check out on the Urthbox website!

Did you get a different version of this box?  I'd be curious to see what the variations are for the difference boxes.  What do you think of this box?  Would it be worth it to you to try these snacks?  Personally, just finding those Sunrype Fruit Strips counts high on my list.

  1. Too. many. healthy. snacks! :p Haha just kidding, but this looks like an awesome assortment. I really love those Nature's Bakery Fig Bars (despite the sugar content and number of calories...) and actually went out of my way to buy a box after trying them in the Popsugar box. XD

And omg you hate beets? HAHA. It's one of my favorites. >:D I love a good roasted beet salad with goat cheese.

"I'll feed it to DH somehow :D" This sounds both sinister and hilarious. XD

    1. Well, then. You would like these Beet Chips then. They smell like beets, they look like beets and according to hubby, they taste like the best beets ever. Blech.

Ahahaha! It does sound a little creepy! It's just because there are no directions at all on it. :\
