Loot Crate August 2014 HEROES Review + Coupons and Spoilers for September!

My August 2014 HEROES Loot Crate sat on my porch for two agonizing days.  We were leaving for the weekend and I tried to stall until the mailman got to my house but I just couldn't drag it out long enough.  So while I was at the beach, in the back of my mind I was desperate to get my hands on this wonderful black box.
Each Loot Crate we have received so far has been an epic treasure chest of awesomeness. It is not like finding a hidden chest, only to discover 10c and a piece of gray junk gear.  No, each box has been like the big, sparkly golden chest that appears after a 45 minute boss battle.  No need or greed necessary.  It's allll yours!  Or in the case of my husband, it's all mine but I'm generous.

The Cost: $13.37/month

What You Get: A box full of unique, interesting and fun gamer geek l00t catered to a new theme each month with occasional awesome T-shirts included.  Always worth at least $40.

Funko POP! Groot Exclusive- This is Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy!  If you haven't seen that movie, you need to.  It was SO good!  I loved Groot and when I heard he was going to be appearing in my Loot Crate I was really excited!  Even better, this is an exclusive Glow-in-the-Dark Groot that you can't get anywhere else!!
If you are really into bobbleheads, Funko and Guardians of the Galaxy, you can collect all six and have a complete set!  I'm not sure what the armor bonus is for that but it definitely includes a +10 to awesomeness.
Value: A lot.  It's becoming a cult favorite and if you want this one, you can't get it unless someone with a Loot Crate doesn't want theirs!

Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic Breeze Air Freshener-  Apparently there is an assortment of these.  I got Breeze, a "fresh, floral scent reminiscent of a breeze in the video game's Green Hill Zone." There's also Mega Man (cool rush) and Proto (apple cinnamon).  I haven't used an air freshener in years but this is tempting.
Value: $5

Shwings Shoe Accessories- If you like The Flash, you can now have shoes that match!  Tie on your Shwings and rock out with your Bolts out.  Be safe.
Value: $8.95

Heroes Loot Crate Mini Mag Issue 13-  Each month Loot Crate issues a mini-mag with interviews, articles, puzzles and all the information you might want about what is in your Loot Crate.  It's a fun read.  Just put them in the bathroom if you don't have time...
Value: Super Special

TMNT Mask Glasses-  If you know who the purple bandana belongs to, you belong in a special group of people.  The ones that grew up in the awesomeness that was the 80's. Donatello is the smart one and he uses the bo staff!  I haven't seen the new movie yet but I will.  I just have this horror of ruining the gloriousness with which my mind remembers the original movies.  That was a little slice of heaven for me.
Okay, and a slice a pizza or two.  Cowabunga, dude!
Value: $9.99

TMNT KidRobot Full Action Figure-  I am so happy to have gotten Leonardo!  He is my favorite Ninja Turtle and when I was 11 I wanted to marry him.  I cried in the movie when he got hurt.  I have fond memories of my Ninja Turtle days.  And, of course, while the bo was super awesome, two swords (ninjato) are even better.
Value: $9.99
Chimichang'Os Magnet- Chimichang'O's are apparently Deadpool's favorite food.  I hope they keep including magnets because I would love to cover my fridge in Loot Crate magnet ridiculaise.

Bonus Digital Loot-  This is a set of codes for unlocking 11 Doctors, Rose Tyler, and Clara in the Doctor Who Legacy app from the Apple App Store.  There is also a code for a full game called Defense Grid: The Awakening (available via Steam) and a code for an in-game helm trophy of the Wyrm Slayer for Gauntlet.
Value: $9.99+

Random Other Goodies-  Because this is our third (or is it fourth) month, we are now considered Official Looters!  I have no idea what that means but I now have a card to prove it!  And of course, the requisite pin for August.  I'll attach it to my growing collection on my PAX lanyard.

VERDICT:  This box totally took me back in time.  I loved it extra just because of that. While there wasn't a T-shirt this month, the collectibles are stellar and I really like them. Woohoo! Desk art!
Anyway, this is one of the most fun gamer subscription boxes out there. I love the connections they have with Marvel and how they can get exclusive goodies by companies like Funko as well.  Monetarily, this is also totally tubular, dude!  Worth the $13.37 plus shipping for sure!!

  1. Oh my gosh, this is SUCH an awesome unboxing - I have been wondering about Loot Crate. I REALLY want to try one of their horror boxes and this has confirmed to me that Loot Crate is definitely as good as it sounds on the website. Thanks heaps for posting.

    1. The Horror Block you mention is actually by Nerd Block, the other gamer subscription :) I haven't ordered that one yet so I don't have a personal comparison to give you on whether Nerd Block or Loot Crate is better. So far we've been pretty happy with Loot Crate which I think I got first because it was cheaper and there's always codes to make it an even better price. Either way, gamer boxes are FUN!

  2. You say that you sell some of your stuff on ebay. Do you have a store or user name?
