Petbox July 2014 Review plus Coupon Code and Free Box!

So we got our first Petbox today!  I got this subscription with a spectacular deal from Gilt City.  I think I paid $15 a box or something like that.  It was a REALLY good deal.  You are in LUCK, though, because that deal moved to Groupon!

The best thing about Petbox?  You can choose your items or be surprised AND they do CAT boxes!!  Yep.
It's not just for dogs anymore.  Us cat lovers may rejoice.  You can also get a mixed cat/dog box, too.

Get Petbox for that same ridiculous deal at Groupon.  This is $19.99 for one month, $59.99 for 3 months and $199 for one whole year.  It's a little different than the regular subscriptions.  With this you'll get 4-5 items and it appears that while you can't pick your items, you do get points to spend (300 for 3-months and 1200 for 1 year) on adding extras to your box.  They have a shop where you can spend your points with all sorts of items to choose from.

The Cost: $29.99/month (or less depending on the length of your subscription)

What You Get: Monthly boxes filled with toys, treats, and accessories tailored to the age and weight of your cat or dog.  With a regular subscription you can even choose the items you would like in your box!

So this was our first Pet box and it had quite an assortment of goodies.  I did get the free Petbox by Rover so some of the items were familiar to me already.

The box came with the goodies hidden which meant that Bugsy could not reach in and snatch like he normally tries to do.  Well, he tried to this time but he couldn't get to it.  He does love to run off with the toys.

Loving Pets It's Purely Natural Pure Beef Jerky Bars- These had one ingredient.  Beef.  I love that! So do the boys.  These are all natural and free of everything since, you know, one ingredient.  This is a four ounce bag and it had 8 treats in it.
Value: $7.99

Salmon Skin- This was a dried salmon skin.  I was so grossed out by it!  But I cut it in half and sent the boys outside to eat their pieces.  They loved it and it did take them awhile to gnaw it down.  This is not something I would buy and I'm not sure I want to see it again.  For my sake.  The dogs had no problem with this treat.

Aussie Naturals Wagga Wool Dolphin- Your dog will enjoy all kinds of “krinkley” fun with this toy.  This Dolphin also has filler of Coconut Fiber for a mixture of sounds, scents & textures your Dog will love.  Bugsy does love this toy. It's pretty sturdy for what it is and I appreciate a toy without fluff to clean up.
Value: $11.99

Aussie Naturals Water Buffalo Ear-This is a thin rawhide ear.  I normally don't go for rawhide but this isn't huge so I just watched while Dexter ate it.  No issues at all!  I also got one of these in the free Petbox by Rover.

Vetericyn Wound and Skin Care-A topical application for sores, cuts, wounds, abrasions and skin irritants. Its got hypochlorus acid, salt and water in it.  I already used this on both dogs.  I don't know how they manage to get into what they do but hopefully this helps their scrapes.  This is my second bottle as I got one in the free Petbox by Rover.
Value: approximately $8.99 (this is a 2oz sample size- the 3oz sells for $13.99)

Petbox Coupon Book-I never give coupons a value unless they're for something free that I want.  This does have a couple coupons for free stuff and the coupons are pretty good.  I did receive this coupon book in the free Petbox as well.

VERDICT: I was very happy with the box. The salmon skin threw me off a bit but the box had so many items.  I have so many treats now.  Bugsy loves the wooly dolphin and runs around crunching it in his jaws.
All the treats were a hit.  We like to give a treat when we leave the house so the Jerky bars are perfect for that.  I'm a little sad that the Vetericyn came in handy so quickly.  I'm really happy to have more of it.  Bugsy got stung by wasps and puffed up like a bunch of grapes were under his skin.  It was the saddest thing you ever saw.  A Benedryl and some Vetericyn on the worst of the stings made him feel better.

I was a little disappointed that my first box seems so different than all the other July boxes and that it contained repeats from the free box.  Next month I am going to choose my own items!  I like that part about this box.  I've never done it before and I do like being surprised but I'm going to see what my options are this time around.  It appears that since I used a Gilt City voucher, the option to choose items is not available to me.  However, I can add items to my box using the 1200 free points I got so I'm okay with that.  I'd rather be surprised most of the time, anyway.

You can also get 50% off your first Petbox of any type using the code PBROCKS50.
Remember they do cat boxes, too!

Don't forget if you want to do a longer subscription, the Groupon Deal is pretty incredible.

If you want a FREE box, go Here and put in your information.  It's currently on a waitlist but I was originally, too.  They send you an email when your turn comes and you can decide then if you want to do it or not. Technically, it's not free because you have to pay $6.99 but its really worth it.  You can read my review on the free box in this post.

  1. I think my dogs would LOVE the salmon skin because they seem to like the stinkiest stuff. Poor Bugsy! I hope he's okay now. He must be okay if he's sniffing around in pet boxes! I'm still waitlisted for the free box, but I'm pretty excited to see what I'll be getting!

    1. It was the most horrible sight. His fur stuck up around all the stings and he was SO lumpy. I felt so terrible that I hadn't noticed sooner. He must have gotten stung fifty times! He's much better today, though. I did have to dose him twice with Benedryl, though. That was a bad reaction.
The salmon skin was seriously gross. I did not want to touch it so I cut it through the plastic. Ewwww. The dogs thought it was great. Yuck.
