Allure Sample Society September 2014 Review

I don't know about you but I've been loving the revamp of Sample Society.  This Allure September 2014 is no exception to the previous awesomeness either.

The Cost: $15/month

What You Get: A curated mix of five deluxe-size beauty samples of skin, hair, and makeup products, as well as fragrance —so you can use each more than once.  You will also receive an Allure mini-mag, packed with in-depth beauty sample product reviews written by Allure editors and a $10 BeautyBar.com gift card to redeem on any $50 Beauty Bar purchase every month.

This really is one of my favorite boxes.  It's only $5 more than Birchbox and the samples are much bigger and tend to be better brands.  I did love Sample Society before the revamp because I loved all the skincare they sent out.  They still send skincare but they send other goodies, too, and I'm enjoying it.
Alterna Caviar Repairx Re-Texturizing Protein Cream-40ml- A leave in conditioner for dry, frizzy or damaged hair.  This uses caviar extracts and Vitamin C to provide moisturization and antioxidants to prevent further damage.  This is a very nice hair product and is coveted by many.  Lucky for them, I don't really use hair products and so they can get it from me.
Value: $9

Givenchy Dahlia Divin-1ml spritzer-  This is a woody, floral fragrance with notes of jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood and plum.  This is a very sensual scent.  It's not awful.  I just don't like getting perfume samples in any subscription box.  I know why they do it because I now love the Harvey Prince Hello perfume from sampling it in a Birchbox but...  I wish there was a way to not get it.  I think that a fragrance sample is going to always be included in the new Allure Sample Society box, though.  It does help with variety but it's not my favorite.
Tarte Brazilliance Self Tanning Towelettes- These are for your face and will deliver a natural looking bronze in hourse without the self tanner smell.  You could easily cover your face, neck and chest with the amount of tanner provided by the towelette.  They don't have any smell and provide a bronzed look that isn't too dark.
I'm terrified of self tanner.  Maybe things have come a long way since I first used them and was streaky and orange.  Those memories haunt me, though, making it really difficult to want to try these.  On my face. Where everyone can see it.  Eek!  I should be brave, though, and these samples are a perfect way to try.
Value: $9 for a set of three

Lorac Porefection Mattifying Face Primer- A shine-reducing, oil-free makeup primer. This oil, fragrance and paraben-free primer is infused with salicylic acid and antioxidants of vitamins A, C and E to help skin appear healthy, youthful and radiant. The skin-perfecting formula helps to minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for a silky-smooth, poreless-looking, matte finish.
This is a silky, silicon-based gel.  I prefer silicon bases in my primers and this is delightfully light, smooth and gloriously matte.  I might have to get a bigger size.
Value: $32 for full size (1.7oz) tube
Restoresea Revitalizing Eye Cream-.5oz- A deeply moisturizing, anti-aging eye cream safe for sensitive skin. This reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by providing intense, shea-buttery hydration.  It's a light, scentless cream and a little goes a long way.
This is the real piece de resistance for this box.  This is a full size eye cream worth $85!  Yeah, in a $15 box.  If I didn't have so many open eye creams already, I would have dug into this immediately.
Value: $85

VERDICT:  It's funny because I think this is a really great box.  It's got eye, face, body and hair products which pretty much covers everything.  The value of this box is incredible with the inclusion of the $85 Restorsea eye cream.  However, there is only one product that I will absolutely use and that is the Lorac primer.  Luckily, I can swap everything else with relative ease so it doesn't affect me too much.
It's been fun to experience the box change and I like the new format.  I'm definitely keeping this subscription.

  1. I am obsessed with the perfume! I have no idea why, because I haven't strayed from the original Dior Addict since I was a teenager, but this one really has a great scent. You're right it's super sensual and I want my perfumes to smell like a VERY expensive hooker, LMAO. I hate fruity/light/floral girly scents for the most part, so while this is floral, it still smells super sexy. Really happy with it even though I agree- I am not a fan of perfume samples in sub boxes. I just got 3 of them for free at Sephora the other day!

    1. It does smell goooood. I tend to hate all the perfumes and go into the sniff test "knowing" I'm going to hate it but this one surprised me. I'm keeping it around for date nights. ;)
