Birchbox December 2014 Decked Out Review

Look at the super cute box for the December 2014 Birchbox!  I love it!  I'll have to keep it and put it to good use.  I didn't look at any spoilers for this months box so I had no idea what would be coming.
I'm pretty pleased with what I received.

Birchbox sends  beauty samples right to your door (or mailbox) and it's one of the first (or most famous) beauty subscription boxes out there.  The great thing about it is that it is super affordable at only $10/month.

The Cost: $10/month

What You Get: Five or six samples and sometimes full size items, including everything from makeup and skin care to non beauty essentials like candles and tea.
I think I'm the most excited about the Vasanti eye liner and the Mirenesse Lip Rouge!  I've already got some Rusk, though it wasn't from Birchbox.  Still, this is some great variety and I'm happy to dig in and get to using this stuff.

Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney- Now this is some show stopping color.  It's what I consider a cherry red and you can see it a mile away!  If you want your lips to get some notice, this will do it.  It applies a little thick (check your teeth after applying!) and is a nice solid matte.  It says you don't need a liner but I think you do.  But the pigmentation on this baby is glorious!  Love it.
Rusk Texture Dry Finishing Spray- It's a medium hold spray that gives hair volume and shape while keeping its natural bounce.  I like it because it does add volume to my hair.  My hair is very fine and thin so I need a little extra oomph.

Ojon rare blend Moisture Therapy- This is a blend of several different kinds of oil.  A brief glance shows jojoba, kukui, babassu, grapeseed, watermelon seed and coconut oils.  This separates so you need to shake it.  It smells kind of like... cookies?  Weird. It's for your hair (not your face) and you just need a little.
SeaRx Microdermabrasion Face and Body Scrub- This has Dead Sea minerals and buffs away dullness to reveal radiant skin.  It also has the strangest warning label on it.  Don't use it if you are pregnant. I'm not sure what that means.  Well, besides the obvious!  But what on earth could be in it that pregnant women should avoid?

Vasanti Kajal Extreme Rose Gold Eyeliner- A creamy metallic liner with an 8 hour staying power. It's not going to make my eyes look like they have more eyelashes like a black liner but it does add brightness, especially on the waterline.  It's very pretty!

VERDICT:  A great Birchbox with things I was excited to try!  That doesn't always happen.  My favorites are the Rusk, Vasanti eyeliner and the Mirenesse.  I'll use the SeaRx and think about using the Ojon.  That's my strange reluctance to use hair stuff showing. :)  For $10, this was worth it for me.

If you'd like to sign up and get your own Birchbox, you can do that right here.  Make sure you use a coupon code when you sign up!  BBSTORE100 or BBJETBLUE will give you 100 Birchbox points to spend in their store (that's $10).  If you sign up for a longer subscription, make sure to put a Mystery Pack in your cart!  Orders over $35 get two free samples (but you must have the Mystery Pack in your cart).
It's possible there may be a wait list but it's nothing like Ipsy's so don't stress.  It may take a week but you'll get off of it soon!

Oh, and don't forget!  Birchbox now ships to Canada!

  2. That's probably the nicest box I've ever seen from Birchbox so that scored them some brownie points this month (it could be just because I like blue but whatever). I didn't peek yet but I hope I get a great variety like this too!

    1. Pretty fun stuff, I have to admit. I like it when I get... substantial? items in my boxes. These are good size samples and will last me a long time (the eyeliner will probably last forever).

  3. I got the hair oil a while back and that was my exact thought - smells like fancy cookies. Though there are a lot worse things it could smell like :). I've been hating my boxes the last few months, I wish I could figure out my survey to actual get things I'll use!

    1. Haha! True! It could smell like oil. Yuck! I hated my boxes for MONTHS and then I changed my survey and have been loving them! I can tell you what my survey says if you think my boxes look like ones you would like.
