The December 2014 French Box arrived SO quickly! I just love the priority shipping they use.
Otherwise it would take ten days or so to get to me from Florida. One end of the continent to the other! However, I was very anxious to dig in to this box because last month was so disappointing.
And because I chose THREE lucky winners in my French Box giveaway and I wanted them all to be happy with what they got! So, CONGRATULATIONS to Alona, Verna and Jamie! I think you'll like this box!
The Cost: $24/month. (Use code: NZB0IM3HSU to get $10 off your first box!)
What You Get: At least five products from France! Fashion, cosmetics, gourmet, goodies, etc.
Once again the presentation of the box is fantastic. This is a holiday themed box which is appropriate. It's one of the things I love about French Box. It is always a delight to open.
Each box comes with an information card, a heavy duty postcard and a recipe. The recipe this month was for chocolate truffles. I probably should have taken a picture of it. Whoops!
French Factory Gourmet Sweets- This is a plastic ramekin filled with little treats. Mine had candied ginger, sesame honey sticks, anise biscotti and a calisson. I know it's only noon but I already ate the honey sticks, biscotti and one of the ginger pieces. Mmm!
Value: $6 (I doubt it)
Les Notes de Lanvin Body Lotion in Oud and Rose- Notes of Patchouli, rose absolute, oud wood & musk. This is 3.4oz, a great size. Unfortunately I don't like the smell of rose. Fortunately, this will make part of a nice gift! I'm happy to see this brand in our boxes, though!
Value: $24
Mauboussin a la folie Perfume sample- Hm. A perfume sample again. This is a blend of sparkling champagne, sweet raspberry, rose petals and caramel. I suppose the French Box description does say there's only supposed to be five items in a box. And perfume is a pretty French thing.
French Box Christmas Tree Ornament- A plastic ball with the French Box Eiffel Tower on it. I am not sure what to say about this. It's festive, yes, but I'm not going to put this on my tree. Maybe I'm not obsessed enough with the Eiffel tower?
Value: $6 (someone is kidding themselves if they think we will believe that!)
L'Atelier du Maquillage Eyebrow Maintenance Kit- Here is where this box redeems itself for me. I am in love with this super cute kit. It's small, has a great mirror, comes with super cute tiny brow tools. There's clear setting "mascara," brow brush, brow powder applicator brush and tweezers. And two colors of brow powder. This kit is for blonde eyebrows and mine are most definitely brown. If you'd like to swap, please email me!
It also came with these. Brow stencils! I didn't even know there was such a thing! I haven't tried these because I'm hoping to swap for a brown kit instead of a blonde one.
I think this is a lot of fun because it's something I don't have. Not even anything remotely close. So, I forgive the Christmas ball and the perfume sample because of this. Heres a little review I found about their brow bars.
Value: $44
Headband- A black and silver headband with a tutorial. It's a cute headband but the tutorial leaves a lot to be desired. I couldnt get it to do what it shows but I'm not exactly adept in the hair department.
Obviously someone with short hair wouldn't be able to do this or be able to use the headband.
Value: $9 (maybe)
VERDICT: So this French Box was a win for me based solely on the brow kit (which is actually for blonde brows). I'm fairly sure I'll be able to swap for a brown but if I cant... Hm. I have to admit I'm having a hard time categorizing French Box. There is so much good about it but it's just not quite at 100% for me. It's fun to get the French treats but I think maybe I'm not invested in all things French enough for this to be a valuable box.
This box was definitely worth it for the brow kit. And the Lanvin will make a great addition to a gift. But for now, I think I will take a few months off of French Box and see how things continue to go. I feel like they're having a hard time finding things to put in. A headband, perfume sample and branded ornament aren't "French" to me.
We'll see. I still think this box was an improvement over last months!
