Nerd Block Classic December 2014 Review

Nerd Block is a Canadian company that ships boxes full of nerdy toys and gear to your door.  This review is for the December 2014 Classic box but they have several available to choose from including ones for kids.
I had cancelled my Nerd Block subscription but when I saw there would be a Willow signed print, I had to sign back up again because a)I love Willow b)DH loves Willow and c)anything Willow related is subsequently awesome.  So, sign up I did!

The Cost: $19.99/month plus shipping ($9.50 to the US)

What You Get: A monthly mystery package delivered right to your door filled with nerdy apparel, toys, and collectibles! Every Nerd Block comes with a custom t-shirt (in your size) and 4-6 epic items for you to tear into!

One thing I wish that Nerd Block did was provide an info card.  At least explaining why they chose some of the things but they don't.

Signed Willow Print- Yay!  This is signed by Warwick Davis (aka Willow)!  Totally happy with that even though I was in love with Madmartigan as a little girl.  I mean, who wasn't?  Val Kilmer was pretty hot when he was in his 20's, amirite?
Value: No Idea but I think it's awesome!
Gremlins Plushie- Gizmo, I'm guessing.  Gremlins came out in 1984.  Of course I loved it.  Ghoulies also came out in 1984 and scared the crap outta me with that whole toilet invasion thing.  I couldn't go to the bathroom without checking the toilet very carefully.
Value: $10.99

KRE-O Dungeons and Dragons Army Builder Pack- Contains 1 KREON figure with weapon and card.  I don't play D&D tabletop games so this will be a stocking stuffer.
Value: $2.49
Tetris Notebook- Tetris colored pages and sections with Tetris shaped page edges.
Value: $7.99
Butter Beer T-Shirt-  This crate promised two random t-shirts and that's just what I got.  VERY random t-shirts.  This is a Harry Potter related t-shirt.  Not enthused.  Not because I don't like Harry Potter (I have the books and watched the movies) but because it's a liiiittle too... childish?  Not that a Beer Crawl is childish but it's just not something my husband would ever wear.  He's not really a Harry Potter fanboy.
Value: $14.99
Charmed T-Shirt- Okay... so... I don't really know what this means.  Is it I love San Francisco? Science Fiction? Super Fly? Supercali Fragilistic?  And Charmed? Really?  That's about three girls. What guy wants a Charmed t-shirt? I'm gonna go with none and thats why this was a freebie.  If someone is getting a Men's size...  Ah, well.
Value: $14.99

VERDICT:  Not a fan of Nerd Block, really, at this point.  It's $30 and sure, you get a t-shirt every month but I'm not sure it's worth it.  These t-shirts just arent... cool.  Maybe I can find someone who *loves* these t-shirts but they aren't making anyone happy in this household.
However, I do love the Willow print and I'll keep Gizmo but the rest will be given away.  Am I being too picky about Nerd Block?  That $9.50 shipping charge is pretty killer for me.  Sigh.  I don't know.
I've unsubscribed but maybe there will be something else to suck me back in.

If it still works and you want to sign up, use CLASSIC5, ARCADE5 or HORROR5 to get $5 off that particular box.

  1. Ohmygosh I have the irrational toilet fear too! Not because of Ghoulies but because when I was 6 my dad told me a story about a ghost/ogre/somethingweird that lurked in bodies of water and disemboweled kids. *sigh* Dads.

    1. Umm, yes. Dads. Because after we watched Ghoulies (which my mom was mad because she thought it was too scary for us- and she was right), the next day he came roaring out of the bathroom and said there was a Ghoulie in his toilet that tried to eat him. It was pretty much years before any of us kids had enough nerve to use the master bathroom, no matter how desperate we were.
