Petbox November 2014 Dog Subscription Box Review Plus 50% off Coupon Code!

Petbox is one of the boxes that tend to ship out late in the month.  At least for me.  This is the November 2014 Petbox.  It shipped on the 26th and arrived on the 4th of December.  The awesome thing about Petbox is that they don't just do boxes for dogs, they do cat boxes, too!  If you are a family that has both, they also do mixed boxes.

The Plans:

The SNACK plan it comes with 1 full sized bag of treats that PetBox chooses for the month, coupons and samples as low $7.95/month.

With the DELUXE PetBox, you will receive around 3 items for as low as $14.95/month.

With the PREMIUM PetBox you can choose your 4-6 items OR choose to be surprised, as low as $29/month.

With Multipet PetBox you choose up to 12 items for as low as $49.95/month.

My particular box is a bit wonky because it's not any of these plans.  It's a voucher deal I got on Gilt City.  It's right between Deluxe and Premium and has 4-5 items a month.

Copper's Classics Beef Ears- One cow ear treat.  I have one dog (Dexter) who *loves* cow ears. The other one doesn't really care and if given a choice will take the bully stick.  Dexter will take the cow ear over anything.  I like doing treat experiments with my dogs. :)
Value: $1.50

Old Mother Hubbard Baking Co. Applesauce and Oatmeal Snacks- Okay.  So, these are delicious. Uh, wait.  They're for the dogs?  I looked at the ingredients and they are totally human grade and actually taste good enough to eat.  Why don't they make these for humans?!  Anyway, the dogs love these.  I can't believe my dogs get treats this good.
Value: $10.99
Loving Pets It's Purely Natural Chicken Jerky-  This is the third bag of these that I have received.  I really wish there was a way to avoid repeats like this.  It's the one thing Barkbox has over Petbox.  I have never gotten a repeat in a Barkbox.  Although, it's for the dogs and what do they care.  I wouldn't mind if the repeats were something other than chicken treats since one of my dogs is allergic to chicken.  Oh, well.
Value: $7.99

Evangers Chicken and Brown Rice Formula- Ah, now this is interesting!  I'm going to give it to Bugsy because I think he ate something that didn't agree with him out of the garbage.  My husband said he left the bag next to the can to go get a new bag and when he got back...  Not disaster but Bugsy had his nose in there snuffling down something.  He likes to eat paper towels and kleenex. Weirdo.
Value: sample

Skinneeez Stuffing Free Platypus-  I love these toys!  My dogs are rat terriers and they love to disembowel creatures.  Which leaves stuffing everywhere.  I accept this as part of being a dog mom but it doesn't mean I love cleaning it up.  These have no stuffing except squeakers.  Which were immediately ripped out, of course.  Bugsy has a thing for squeakers.  He will collect them all and put them in a pile by my foot because he wants me to kick them so he can run after them.  Dogs are so strange.
Value: $10.99
This is an extra treat I chose.  As part of the Gilt City promotion I was given 1200 points to use to pick things from the Petbox "store" to add to my box.  This month I chose Doggie Beer Bones.  These are definitely a hit. I've had another product from this company that went over really well, too.  I think these were 160 points.

VERDICT:  I purchased a one year subscription for Petbox on Gilt City.  I believe it was $199 which makes each box about $16.  With it came 1200 points to spend on extra treats and toys.  I have had several issues with my boxes (which is why I haven't reviewed one since August).  One month I didn't get a box and had to contact them.  Then I was sent two boxes that were identical and had to contact them.  Then I received two boxes that were nearly identical (3 of 5 were the same).  I think all that was because of the time they forgot to send me a box and so I was off on the rotation or something.  Customer service was very nice each time and this last time sent me a separate box with hand picked toys and treats.

So while there have been issues, they have been taken care of.  I like Petbox and they send a different array of treats and toys than you'll find in other boxes for dogs which is nice.  I do think that I've had some exceptional issues and so repeats make me less happy than someone who hadn't gotten identical boxes more than once would probably be.

If you would like to see what Petbox has to offer, you can check them out here.  They don't just do dogs which sets them apart and I think they are the only subscription box that allows you to get a mixed box, though it is expensive.

You can use code PBROCKS50 and get your first box for 50% off!  It expires Dec 31st.

  1. Seriously right?! Some human food companies need to learn a lesson from dog treat companies. My dogs' treats are healthier than mine AND they smell better. Especially those meat treats...mmmmmm....drool. It's hilarious that Bugsy piles up squeakers next to you! Dogs really have some weird agenda we humans can't figure out. My dogs have this system where Pebbles will remove (and eat) all the stuffing in a toy and Macho will remove the squeaker and chew it into two pieces and try to eat the squeaker tube. Every. Single. Time. And those doggie beer bones are the best! I used the last of my points to pick that one up and it was gone in under a week.

    1. That is so funny! Not the part where Pebbles loves to eat the stuffing but the part where Macho chews the squeaker up so he can get the tube. How do dogs even know?! Bugsy doesn't like the tube so I find the little tubes everywhere (usually when I step on them or when they make a horrible noise going into the vacuum). I'm pretty lucky that neither of my dogs have a toy eating problem. Dexter will destuff but he will spend more time spitting out fluff than he does actually removing it. He hates fluff in his mouth as much as he hates it in his toys. Dirty kleenex, though? Mmm, a delicacy!
