Boxycharm January 2015 Celebration Box Review

Boxycharm is one of my most favorite subscription boxes for makeup.  I get more makeup in this box than I do in any other box.  The January 2015 Boxycharm has makeup, skincare and a little pizzazz.
Since Boxycharm managed to make a deal with Tarte, their products have been popping up with delightful regularity.  The values of Boxycharm always far exceed the price you pay for it.
A full size Tarte product alone with Mirabella primer, a Beauty for Real Lip set and some tattoos by, of all the companies, Pur-lisse.

The Cost: $21/month.

What You Get: Full size and luxury size beauty samples of the best beauty products from popular and chic brands. Anything from nail care and hair products to the top skin care and cosmetics.

Tarte Maracuja Bronzing Serum-An innovative, gradual bronzing elixir powered by the miracle of maracuja.  This is a full size, 1.7oz serum.  I always love to see Tarte in these boxes and this month Boxycharm is doing what subscription boxes do best-- introducing something new to me.  I've never tried their regular maracuja oil but this serum is very tempting.  The only thing holding me back for now is the fact that it's a bronzer.  I'm white as a ghost so any application of color makes a pretty big difference.  I need to read up a little more about it and see what it will actually do.  Get 20% off at Tarte.com using code BOXYCHARM from 2/3-2/12.
Value:$47
Purlisse Skin Sparkle Flash Tattoos- Glam yourself.  With temporary tattoos.  These things sure are popping up everywhere.  These are not quite the same as the tattoos we used to find in Cracker Jacks but pretty close!  I think I've reached an age where I'm not going to run to the sink and apply these, but I might save them for something fun later on when being ridiculous is completely acceptable.
Value: $12 (What?! You've got to be kidding me.  No way.)

Mirabella Prime For Face- Minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines with this silky smooth face primer. I've been looking for a good one and so far have found two good ones but none of HG quality yet.  I'll try this.  Surprisingly (at least to me) this tube is a full size product.
Value: $29
Beauty For Real Lip Cream in "Always There"- This is, sadly, the same color that was in an earlier Popsugar box.  However, the design of the bottle is different- better, I think.  This has a lighted lid and a wand applicator.  I like the color, it's one of my favorites but I have two already.
Value: $22

Beauty For Real The Perfect Pencil- This is what I'm happy to have.  It's more practical than exciting, I know, but I need lip pencils and this is the perfect color for me. It's just a hint darker than my regular lip color.  I wish it was a little softer but maybe after it warms up a little it won't pull so much.
Value: $14

VERDICT: The value on this Boxycharm is pretty incredible.  I still can't believe they managed to get a full size Tarte serum but I think it's pretty awesome even if it's not something I will use.  The tattoos are pretty meh and overvalued and I likely will never find a use for them other than gifting them to my niece but I know I'm probably not in the right age group to love them.  I like the Beauty for Real Lip set but I know seeing the same brand twice in one box isn't super desirable.
That being said, I don't think I would complain if there were two Tarte items or two Tarina Tarantino products so maybe I'm biased.  If it was two Be a Bombshell thing, I would definitely care.  But this Beauty for Real set is good colors for me and something I've been needed anyway.

So for me? Great box! Super Objectively? Bronzing serums aren't the best thing to send in a box because they tend to be either loved or hated by people.  There's not really a middle ground.  You either use it or you don't.  Two products by the same company in one box is not ideal.  And tattoos? Really?

So there you go!  Both of my opinions!  If you would like to sign up for Boxycharm and get your own box of makeup goodies, you can do that right here.  You may be put on a waitlist but if you are, it's short and you'll likely get the next box.

  1. I also have fair skin and am happy to report that after about a week of use it has not turned my face orange (or even brown for that matter). Maybe I am doing something wrong but I wear it before I go to the gym (because the smell is pretty strong fake tanner smell) so it gets washed off about 2 hours later. So far I have noticed no coloring differences so it should be pretty subtle. Good luck. ~Dani~

    1. Oh, that's good to know! I am always so terrified of turning orange. Have you found it moisturizing in any way? Or is it too hard to tell because you wash it off after two hours?

  2. Hi Sarah, I really am not sure. I am a moisturization fanatic so I wait 10 minutes and then put a cream on top of it. I like tarte products so I tend to believe for that reason (if for no other) that it has a benefit. ~dani~
