Loot Crate January 2015 Review ~ Rewind

Loot Crate still ranks as my favorite geeky gamer subscription box.  The January 2015 box them was Rewind.  As in back to the 80's, I suppose.  The days of 8-bit awesomeness.  My husband is usually the one that gets all the items in these boxes but we now have a cabinet that is just for "his" collectibles.  It's pretty popular when we have people over because they always like to play with them or talk about "Remember when..." and all that.

The Cost: $13.37/month plus $6 shipping for a total of $19.37

What You Get: Awesome gamer/geek loot! Sometimes T-shirts (like this month!) Plenty of comment inducing collectibles to surround your computer desk with, all delivered right to your door. You don't even have to go out to get it! Well, except to the mailbox.

Flophouse Voltron Blueprint Exclusive T-Shirt- Super soft and pretty awesome.  Loot Crate doesn't always have T-shirts and it seems like it's either a Funko collectible or a T-shirt each month. One or the other.  I'm personally happy with either one.  I'm going to wear this shirt because it's too small for DH.  It's too big for me but I don't mind.
Value: $14.99
Exclusive Star Wars Marvel Comic Book Issue 001- Notice that Hans and Chewy are guarding Loot Crates...  That's pretty cool!  I have left mine in the plastic.  Comic books were never my thing so I don't really know what to do with my growing stash. It looks like there are 50 variant covers.  Is that normal?  This one was done by Gabriele Dell'Otto.
Value: $2.99
Loot Crate Magazine- Every month Loot Crate sends a magazine with interviews, little puzzles and information about the included items.  It can be pretty interesting so you should flip through it at least.

Comic Note Book- This is cool!  You can make your own comic in the blank squares provided and the back few pages have stencils to help you make the perfect dialogue bubble and some other shapes.  There's 60 pages for you to have fun with.
Value: $3

Loot Crate 8-Bit Sunglasses-  I feel like we just got sunglasses in a Crate.  I think they were the TMNT bandana ones. Hm.  Either way these are ridiculous and fun and I'll hand them off to my nephew.
Value: $8
BlackTieGeek Exclusive Retro Arcade Skinny Tie- This is like an old arcade game.  Pacman, I think.
It's shiny and skinny and totally awesome.  DH is going to wear it to work.  This is the first tie from the company.  Their full line will launch sometime this year.
Value: $14

Loot Crate Pin: Every Loot Crate has a pin commemorating the months theme.

10-DOH! Mini Figure- This one is called Korben's Alley.  It's an old time Nintendo cartridge that hints at Fifth Element. It's about 3" tall.  A fun addition to our collectibles cabinet.
Value: $10

VERDICT:  I have to admit that my favorite Loot Crates deal with actual geek themes, not mashups.  I want the real thing!  The tie is pretty awesome and I'll wear the T-shirt but everything else will likely be gifted.  There are a lot of good gamer geek boxes out there right now and I've got a couple reviews for newer ones coming up that I'm excited about.  I do have to say that Loot Crate has the best price for what you get.
I've tried Nerd Block and while you do get a T shirt every month, it's $29/month and that's more than I want to spend on something like that.

Loot Crate has definitely had some amazing boxes and I don't regret subscribing at all.  These are fun crates with some exclusive things you can't get anywhere else.  How nice is that?!

If you'd like to sign up for Loot Crate, you can sign up right here.  Use code SAVE3 to get $3 off your first crate.
