Something Snacks January 2015 Review and Coupon Code!

My Something Snacks box for January 2015 arrived yesterday!  I had received a box for review and really liked it so I ended up subscribing.  I signed up for a year so my first box is a Deluxe box.  They don't sell Deluxe box subscriptions (yet?) so this might just be a one time thing for people who sign up for a year.
There was SO many snacks in this box, I could hardly believe it! I kept pulling snack after snack out of the box!  All different kinds from all different countries, too.

The Cost: $13/month

What You Get: Each box will contain 7 new and tasty, hand selected snacks.  You can expect something familiar and something more out of the ordinary.

Oishi Ribbed Cracklings in Salt and Vinegar- I actually forgot to get these in the photo of the full box contents but I didn't realize it until later.  These are actually quite tasty!  Theyre fat, crunchy squares.
This snack is from the Philippines.

Ulker Dankek 8Kek Cikolate + Muz- This is a treat from Turkey.  It's in the shape of an 8 and is half chocolate and half banana.  I think. Yes.  I just opened it.  It's two flavors of cake mooshed together with little globs of something in the centers.  Not bad but not super tasty either.  I like the banana part, though.
Andy Capps Cheddar Fries- I've never heard of these.  Andy Capp is just a dumb comic to me.  But when I opened these to start snacking, I wished we had these around here! These are so good! It's like cheesy onion... puffs.  But not puffs.  Something.  And they're delicious.  I'm pretty sure my breath is overpoweringly oniony right now.

Lotte Pepero Almond and Chocolate Sticks- These were unfortunately melted together in a giant block.  There were no sticks.  Just a chocolatey bread clump.  This brand is from Korea and while I didn't find these very tasty, the brand makes other goodies, too.
Pasencia Vanilla Drop Cookies- These are from the Philippines, too.  They're terrible.  I can't tell if they have the strange texture because they're stale (I can't find a sell by date) or just because that's the way they are.  There is some taste in there that just doesn't seem right.

Churritos Mexicanos El Ponchine-  These are corn sticks with a salsa pouch for a dipping sauce.
They're from Mexico and taste like salty fried dough.  They're also strangely addicting... :)
Lotte Chocopie- This is the same Korean brand as the Popero sticks.  It was decent but not fabulous.
I like the whole marshmallow, chocolate and cake combination so I'm a little partial to treats like this.

Simply 7 Lentil Chips in Sea Salt- So I hate lentil chips.  I discovered this when I received them in another snack box. Not even my husband will eat these...

Orion Custard Soft Cup x2- These have really soft vanilla cake with custard inside.  I'm not a big fan of custard but I tried one of these anyway.  The cake is very soft but something about it tastes weird.
Not bad, just weird.

VERDICT:  This box was exploding with items due to the fact that it was a deluxe box.  I know I won't get this many treats normally and I think I'm okay with that.  One of the hazards of a treat box that sends international treats is that you may not end up liking several of the items.  I loved the Cheddar Fries, the Chocopie was okay and the Cracklings were unusually addictive.  The rest of the items aren't really my thing.
I like that Something Snacks sends "something familiar and something adventurous" but I wish there had been more familiar and less adventure in this box.  That's just me, though.  If you are into adventure and random snacks, this might be the box for you!

Check out Something Snacks on their website www.somethingsnacks.com.  If you sign up now you will start with the February box.  And based on the December box, they are really good at curating a box for a holiday so I'm expecting chocolate!

Use code TRY3NOW to get $3 off your first box or TRY3GIFT if you are ordering a one-time charge gift subscription!

  1. Hi! Was great to see a Pinoy food in the box but they should've given the subscribers the Pasencia Biscuits with the white topping! That's really delicious and my fave as well. It's a melt in your mouth baked egg white and sugar on top of the biscuit! :) Or, if to represent the Pinoy delicacy, should have been dried mangoes.. :)

    1. Oooo! I agree! When I was in Manila I stocked up on Philippine Mangoes and brought bags home. That was about ten years ago and I'm so happy now that I can find them at the store here in the US. Maybe one time they will send something with Ube! Mmmm!

  2. omg I'm shocked you never had cheddar fries before!! Those are like...a staple in every store around here! They're remind me of my childhood because I used to eat them alll the time growing up haha ;)

I'm doing a review of this box in February, so while they'll probably be more chocolate (hopefully!) I'm thankful you introduced me to this box- it looks great for the price!

  3. You introduced me to this box also, I think you are solely responsible for me spending all of my monies on subs!! LOLOLOL! :D

The lentil chips were disgusting, same with the vanilla drop cookies, took one bite and they hit the trash. Just tasted cheap-yuck!

BUT I loved the Pepero Almond and Chocolate buscuit stick thingies, but I'm prone to eating an entire package of Pocky, so there's that.

    1. Oh, good!! I'm not the only one. I can definitely eat all the Pocky in one sitting! I have to restrain myself when I see them at the store because I know it's the whole box or none at all :D

Lentil chips are TERRIBLE. I've never had a good one :( I was fully expecting to like them because I like lentils but no. No.

Don't look now then because I'm gonna be posting about another snack sub... :D
