Who Needs New Year's Resolutions Anyway?! And Other Thoughts...

I'm not going to lie.  I used today, January 1st, to start up something I haven't done in awhile.  I normally don't really go for New Year's Resolutions because I don't need the disappointment that comes when I don't measure up to my usually ridiculous ideals.

So this year, I made one goal.  It's a short term goal.  Easily sustainable.  And if I don't make it, I can just take longer to do it.  Maybe that's what most people do anyway.

Today when I woke up, I lay there in bed and knew that if I didn't get up I wouldn't be happy with myself.  So, I rolled out of bed, tossed on my sweats and a T-shirt and hunted down my Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred DVD.

Yes.  I worked out today! Yay, me!  I used to workout every single day but I hurt my shoulder lifting weights one day and ended up needing an MRI and not being able to the smallest thing for ages.  I think in my old age, it took even longer to heal.  It's been a year now since I've really worked out, lifted weights or even gone on a run.

Jillian Michaels 30 Day ShredNow, let me say that I don't love working out.  I hate it.  I hate the lead up to it, I hate actually doing it, and I hate the sweaty, aching aftermath.  I do, however, love the way I look.  Unfortunately, looking awesome doesn't come overnight and I'm aaaall about immediate gratification.

I have found a solution to my workout hate. It's a DVD.  It's 26 minutes and it's by some lady named Jillian Michaels.  Who is a genius, by the way.  I'm sure she's rolling in money and in my mind, she should be. Why?  Because she invented a great workout that only lasts 26 minutes, won't kill you and that really does produce results (as long as you aren't eating a tub of ice cream afterwards).

I'm not really going for pound loss although that's always nice and I will modify my eating habits but right now my goal is to do that dang video every day in January. Except maybe the 31st.  That day I will rejoice in my awesomeness or maybe get stuck doing a "make up day."

I've done this before.  The last time I did this 30 Day Shred DVD, I was also monitoring my food on the website.  I lost nine pounds while eating properly and doing this DVD.  Granted I was far more overweight at that time but that's a story for another day.  I'm currently at a healthy weight and this is more about those "vanity" pounds and exchanging some of my fat pounds for some muscle pounds.  I'm only about ten pounds away from the weight I'd love to be at but it's really hard for me to get there.  I *like* to eat!  But I also miss the muscles I used to have before I hurt myself.

So, my New Year's Resolution is not to lose weight (although I want to) and it's not to only eat a certain amount of calories per day (but I will try to stick to it).  My goal is to complete 30 days of a 26 minute workout.  I think that's pretty doable.
Of course, I'd also like to get really organized but I'm already working on that.  I just got a new desk and some shelving to spruce up my office area.  They arrive tomorrow and I cannot *wait* to get everything all divided up and put in their new places.  I love that kind of thing.
 I also was able to clean out a bunch of products I didn't need thanks to some lovely readers and family stockings.  I've already gotten more, though.  I even have my stocking stuffer bag back out to fill up.
I made so many family members happy with what they got.  My MIL even sent me pictures the next day with all her new things in a row and then another one showing all the products she had used that day.  The family Christmas went well and my gift (the Popsugar December box, re-wrapped and bagged) was the one that got fought over at the gift exchange!  Woohoo!!  Subscription boxes really come in handy when it's time to gift.  So many good things to give!

I also need to get back into cooking.  I used to cook dinner every single night but since I started blogging that has kiiiind of gone by the wayside.  So expect some kitchen/cooking type subscription box reviews just to encourage me to get back in there.  I may also even be posting some of my favorite recipes.  This plan makes my husband very happy.

  1. That desk looks pretty sweet. I have a bunch of Ikea tables and a drafting table that was extracted from the garbage in my work area... let's just say that my home office isn't Pinterest-perfect. :P I need to start exercising more too, but I'm pretty out of shape and don't like the pain that comes with it, hahaha. 30 Day Shred is a good one though. I also like Blogilates because they give you a monthly workout calendar to follow. Accountability, sort of?

    1. I don't know how some of those Pinterest people stay so clean. My desk is always a mess (the photo above is the amazon picture of the desk I got). I've had it two days and it's already covered in sticky notes and random sub box items.
      As for working out, I hate it so much but I like the 30 day aspect of the Jillian Michaels one because it sort of keeps me on track. Sounds like the Blogilates one has that same effect. So far I've done it every day except Sunday. My poor sad muscles needed a day off.
