Beauteque Monthly February 2015 BB Bag Asian Beauty Subscription Box Review

This is the February 2015 BB bag from Beauteque!  It's the second month of their newly launched Asian beauty subscription.  Beauteque is a US-based online retailer that specializes in Asian beauty products.  They currently ship to the US, Canada and Europe.

In January, Beauteque spun off a sister site called Beauteque Monthly.  The new site is dedicated to their Beauty Bag subscription.
This arrived in a large mailing envelope and was stuffed completely full.  This is because not everything fit into the cosmetic bag that usually houses all the included BB Bag products.  The cosmetic bags are pretty large and this one has a zip pocket and two smaller open pockets in it.  Not too shabby!
One thing I like about the BB Bag is that it is customizable.  I don't know how sustainable that will be as their clientele grows but for now it's nice to be able to choose a scent or a color of preference.  For this bag I was able to make my own choices for three of the products included.

The Cost: $24/month plus shipping

What You Get: A combination of 7 beauty, skincare and lifestyle products with a focus on Asian beauty.

Each bag comes with an information card detailing how to use the products included in the bag.  This is always a good thing because I can't read Korean.  I'm trying to learn so I can translate ingredient lists but it takes a lot of time.
A'Pieu NonCo Tea Tree Emulsion- This is a light moisturizer containing herbal extracts and tea tree oil to help you keep clearer skin.  The only ingredient list I could find was this:Tea tree essential oil, Herbal AC Complex (lavender, rosemary, sage, chamomile, peppermint).  Which stinks because I'm allergic to lavender but I already used this and was very impressed.  I need a little  more time with it, I think, though.  I did spend an inordinate amount of time translating some of the ingredients.  The print is so small my eyes started crossing and I quit but here's half of it:

Water (Aqua), Butylene Glycol , ??? , glycerin, chamomile flower extract, lavender extract, rosemary extract, peppermint leaf extract, cetyl alcohol , mineral oil, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, tea tree leaf oil , polysorbate 60 , betaine, some kind of bark extract, tocopheryl acetate,  potassium , beta-glucan , sodium hyaluronidase, glyceryl stearate, etc, etc.

It does take a little massaging to sink in and has a faint stickiness that does disappear. It has a strong scent of Tea Tree so hopefully you like it.  I actually like the scent of tea tree oil and don't have too big of a problem with it.  At least it doesn't smell like lavender. :D
An emulsion would be applied after your essence and before your main moisturizer.
Value: $8

Tony Moly Petit Art Perfume Mist-  There were two scent choices.  I picked Fresh Green and I think the other may have been Floral but I'm not positive.  This is a body spray to use after you get out of the shower.  I like the scent I chose.  It smells familiar but I can't figure out what it smells like.  It says it's supposed to smell like Green Tea.  Blarg.  It has lavender in it to.  I am cursed!
Value: $6
eChoice Peptide Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer- This is a facial moisturizer with Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, trapa Japonica (a water plant), macadamia seed oil and arnica montana flower (possibly for it's anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties).  It smells like baby powder (yuck!)  Peptides are soo good for your skin, though, I think I'll use it anyway.  I hate not knowing the ingredients!
Value: $11

Skinfood Black Bean Eye Brow Pencil- This was another choice you got to make.  I picked Black-Brown but there were two other choices, as well.  Umm... I love this! Why don't all eyebrow pencils have a little brush on the other end?!  This isn't the smoothest or creamiest of eyebrow pencils but it's decent.  It's got a funny oval shaped crayon. I have the hardest time giving up my Clinique Superfine Brow Pencil but I'll see how I like this.
Value: $6
NextBeau Elasticity/Collagen Wrinkle Mask-  This has hyaluronic acid, vitamin b and hydrolyzed collagen in it.  While a dose of collagen won't really get rid of your wrinkles, it is an excellent moisturizer along with hyaluronic acid.  I'm totally using this, I need all the moisturization I can get!
Value: $2

Humanpia Costech Daylight Arbutin Essence Mask- This is a Japanese brand.  The first two ingredients are glycerin and arbutin so this is a moisturizing and skin brightening mask.  I'll use this as well.
Value: $2

Both of these masks together are counted as one item in this 8 item bag so you'll actually get 9 products, not just eight.  I think that is awesome!
It's Skin Mangowhite Lip and Eye Makeup Remover Wipes- 15ct-  Face wipes are always welcome in my house!  I prefer them actually so this is a fun addition.  Plus I like the It's Skin brand and they smell SO good!
Value: $5

Etude House Collagen Eye Patch- One set of undereye patches.  These are SUPER juicy. I'm wearing them right now.  They're made of very thin sheet mask material.  Just make sure to remove the netting.
Value: $1

Hair Spa Towel- Also included is a towel for your hair!  Twist your hair up with the towel on your head then button it to keep it in place.  I've never had one of these before so I should try it for fun even though it's kind of a funny addition to a box.
Value: $10

VERDICT: I have to admit, I really could not believe how many things were packed into this bag! And I was so happy to see that two masks counted as one product.  Beauteque promises 7 items per bag but this had eight (nine, if you count the masks separately).
This bag has no clear theme and I would have liked to see the hair towel accompanied by a shampoo or hair treatment of some kind.  It feels sort of tossed in at the last minute.  Either way, this bag has a value of $51 compared to the $28 paid for it.
I may have found one of my new favorite moisturizers and I love seeing the A'Pieu brand.  It's a little more unusual than Etude House or Skinfood and I like that range of familiar vs more difficult to acquire.
This bag has a hair towel, light moisturizer, make up remover wipes, treatment moisturizer, two mask, eye patches, a perfume mist and a eyebrow pencil.  It's a strange conglomeration of inclusions and my brain is having a hard time assimilating them all but it's nice to have such a packed bag!  I am glad that it's all Asian beauty products this month, too.

This is also one of the few Asian beauty boxes/bags that ship outside the US which makes it more valuable.  They ship to the US, Canada and Europe.  If you're interested in signing up or just seeing more about the subscription, go to Beauteque Monthly and check it out.

It appears this bag has some undisclosed variations and subscribers have reported receiving Etude House or TheFaceShop eyebrow pencils instead of the Skinfood and varying brands of facial wipes instead of the It'sSkin Mango ones.

  1. I can't wait to get mine! I picked the Fresh one and I thought it would smell like tea. Your lavender is my rose! It really is awful when you get a nice product and you cannot handle the scent. Great review #kbeautybloghop

    1. It smells good! Maybe it smells like tea? It's awfully familiar but I can't place it. I don't like rose either so I'm totally with you on that one.

    2. Oh that is good - I thought because it had lavender in it, it smelled like lavender :) I agree that the curation is a bit all over the place, but I am really excited to try the tea tree lotion & body mist - plus I can always use another hair towel turban thingie. My current one is due for a replacement :)

  2. I've yet to pull the trigger on this sub, but it's looking rather appealing! How is the lasting power on that brow pencil? Great review! #kbeautybloghop

  3. I can't wait to get mine after reading this! Great Review! I think we picked all the same samples, so hopefully mine turns out just as well! #kbeautybloghop

  4. This looks like a great sub and thank you for the great review! I haven't subscribed to it yet, because I'm so indecisive. But maybe a few more amazing bags like this will sway me. I do wish they'll provide full ingredients list in English for products that don't have it, since it is a pain to translate and I'd like to know what I'm putting on my skin lol. #kbeautybloghop

    1. I feel like they're still struggling to find their niche with these bags. I think Beauteque does a GREAT job with the curation on their "Head to Toe" bags but I haven't seen that translate into their monthly bags yet.
Omg, yes!! I wish they would provide translations, too! It is seriously WORK when something isn't in CoSDNA already. (Props to everyone who contributes to CoSDNA- big time!).

  5. Is that Lana Del Ray on the tonymoly mist??? LOL SO WEIRD.
I'm really glad I chose the "floral" scent. It's more fruity/fresh with a light floral undertone. Interestingly enough, mine kind of smells "familiar" to me too, but I can't put my finger on it.

The brow pencil is really fantastic, especially because it's not insanely pigmented or soft. Because of that, it will appear much more natural-looking. I do find that it's a buildable color too- which is awesome. I've had great experiences with Korean brand brow pencils, and they're usually pretty inexpensive!

  6. I think this is an improvement on the January bag so that's great! I'm really excited to try the Skinfood brow pencil as I just bought an Anastasia one for like 3 times that cost because it has a little brush on the other end! Curious to compare the two. #kbeautyboxblog

  7. Did anyone has gotten their beauteque bag? I subscribed in January and they already charged me for March and so far no bag at all.

    1. The January bag has shipped out, the February one is shipping and I think you ABSOLUTELY should have gotten a bag by now!! The January one at the very least! Email them or call and hopefully they can get it sorted for you right away!

      You have been very patient!
