Julep Mystery Box February 2015 "Cupid's Clutch" Review + Free Polish Coupon Code

I've avoided Julep Mystery Boxes successfully for awhile now but when I saw the two polish sneak peeks for the February 2015 Cupid's Clutch Mystery Box, I caved pretty much instantly.  I haven't purchased polish in awhile and figured it was time.
You don't have to be a Maven to buy this.  It's a good way to try Julep polishes and some of their beauty products without committing to a Maven subscription.  This mystery box had eight items including the clutch!

The Cost: $24.99 each.

What You Get: A one time purchase with two Julep topcoats (Yuki and Valentina) plus mystery gifts totally over $100 (rtv, non-maven pricing).

Here are the promo photos for Yuki and Valentine so you can get an up close view of what they look like:

Yuki (Classic with a Twist): Snowy heart glitter top coat

Valentina (Bombshell): Pink chevron glitter top coat
Julep Valentina- This is Valentina again.  I really am discovering that the big chunky glitter is really too difficult for me to work with.  Maybe there's a secret and I don't know what it is.

Julep Margit-Mushroom with rose shimmer.  I'm not sure what color mushroom means.  I'd be closer to saying it's a shell pink but then again there are lots of colors of shells.  This reminds me of mother of pearl.
Julep Jessie- Deep Kalamata crème.  This is a dark, dark purple.  I feel like I already have this but I couldn't find it anywhere so maybe not.

Julep Yuki- I found this a little easier to work with than Valentina but I'm still not very good at dispersing glitter.  And I found that it wanted to eat through my "background" polish.  Does that even make sense? :D
Julep Gel Eye Glider in Navy Smoke- I've never used one of Juleps eyeliners before and I'm happy I got a blue.  I have enough black to last me a lifetime. It does get good reviews so I'll be trying this soon.
Clinically proven to last for 10+ hours, this easy-to-use eye pencil delivers the creamy formula & intense color payoff of a gel eyeliner. The waterproof formula glides on, sets in 30 seconds, and then stays put. Because eyeliner shouldn’t stand in the way of adventures.

Julep Myriam-Casino red crème.  Now this is red.  Very red.  A perfect Valentine's red.  I don't have a whole lot true reds and the ones I do aren't Julep so I might have a little fun comparing formulas over the next few days.
Julep Lip Gloss in Posh- This is a sheer gloss and Julep calls it Black Honey colored.  I love my Clinique Black Honey lipstick and I need to dig it out and see how these two go together.  I like the color because it works well for me.  It does have some complaints about the packaging and the wand breaking off the cap which isn't good. I'll have to be careful.
This smells like cookies!  Really!  Like maybe almond and vanilla.  It applies very thinly and is a little sticky, I can't lie.  It's so pretty, though, and provides good color even though it is fairly sheer.
Now the clutch itself! It's got black sequins all the way around with a gold zipper.  The opening is smaller than the true width and while my Samsung Galaxy won't fit in if completely horizontal, it easily tucks in with plenty of room to spare.  This is not a high quality bag.  The inside lining is a crunchy nylon and seems to be a little bigger than necessary so the zipper gets caught in it.  There is no inner pocket.  It's perfectly serviceable and I think it's cute and while I would take it on a girls night out, I wouldn't use it for a black tie affair. :)

VERDICT:  I'm pretty please with the variety included in this box.  I felt the polish colors were appropriate for the season and I liked the two beauty additions of eye liner and lip gloss.  The clutch is cute but not the star of the show.  I have a feeling the eye liner might end up being my favorite thing in the box!  Considering that I paid $3.10 for each of these items, I'm thinking this was a great deal!

This Cupid's Clutch Mystery Box is still available! If you would like to purchase one, you can do that right here!  If you do decide to make a purchase (of anything over $15) make sure you use the code GETCOLOR!  The GETCOLOR code will give you one free polish!  Make sure you add the one you want to your cart first, then apply the code.  It's perfect to use with the Mystery Box!
