My First Bare Bliss Box Review! An Organic Beauty Subscription ~ February 2015

Bare Bliss Box focuses on giving the best organic beauty product found on the market. They work only with proven brands that use the purest ingredients. If you are looking for a natural and organic beauty box, this could be your answer.
Since this is my first box, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I am pleasantly surprised by both the items themselves and the variety. I purchased a six month subscription on GiltCity.com so I paid about $12 a box with shipping.

The Cost: $19.99/month

What You Get: A carefully curated box of organic, non-toxic, all-natural and cruelty free skincare and beauty products.

Each box arrives with an information card describing the products and why they were chosen. If you decide you like what you’ve received, there are also coupon codes for purchase of the full size products on the individual retailers websites.

Pure by She She Cream Body Wash in Sweet Orange- This is a 100% natural and organic lotion-like body wash. It’s made with plant based cleansing agents and smells deeelicious! I love the orange scent. It has orange oil with a hint of rosemary extract and is made with coconut, olive and jojoba oils.
Value: $3

A.dorn Nail Polish in Ashes to Ashes- I received a shiny dark gray creme which isn’t very exciting. However this is a great formulation and reaches opacity in one coat. I’m going to put a silver glitter overcoat on it. This is 6-free, vegan and cruelty free product.
Value: $11

Box Naturals Intimate Wipes- These wipes are made with all natural ingredients and scented with essential oils. They’re pH balanced and made in the USA. Gentle enough to use anywhere. Well, this is definitely an interesting inclusion. I’m not sure what I think about it. Neither scent appeals to me, one is rose and one is lavender but I suppose that doesn’t matter much. I think that I am reluctant to use essential oils (which can be irritants) anywhere near my “intimates” but I’ll use the rose one as a hand wipe. My lavender allergy (dang it!) prevents me from using the other one.
Value: $1

S.W. Basics of Brooklyn Vegan Cocoa Lip Balm- This is a vegan lip balm. It’s made with fair trade Cocoa butter, Extra-virgin coconut oil and Candelilla wax. This doesn’t have a flavor or much of a scent and I kiiiind of wish I’d gotten their cinnamon one. Even though I know that cinnamon oil is an irritant.
Value: $4

Palmetto Derma Retinol and Peptide Lifting Eye Cream- Made with Peptide Complex, Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Vitamin C, CoQ10 and Rose Hip Oil. Actually, I read the ingredients list many times over and I see no form of retinol on there. It says it’s an ocean based retinol. Well, retinol is a form of vitamin A and it needs to be broken down in a specific way to actually help your skin. So I’m not going to throw much weight on the retinol in here. However, it *does* have a ton of peptides which is awesome and some acids (glycolic and lactic). The list is very long. This can be considered vegan by some but it does have beeswax in it ( I know there’s controversy over whether bee products are vegan). It’s 70% organic and 97% natural.
Value: $11

VERDICT: The value of this Bare Bliss Box comes out to $30 so it’s worth $10 more than the regular subscriber price. Since I paid only $12 with a voucher, it’s an even better deal for me. I realize that this box is more expensive because it contains only organic products. The payoff is in the introduction to new brands and products that you may not have known of previously. Since organic beauty doesn’t get the press it deserves, there are far too many products that go undiscovered.

While I am not solely interested in organic and vegan beauty, I recognize that it has a growing benefit to everyone. We all should be focused on ingredients and making sure we get what we need and what is also beneficial for our skin.

Keep in mind that just because it’s organic doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you or be good for your skin. That’s why Bare Bliss Box is so fun. You will find out more about what you like, what you don’t like and what actually works, all without having to fork over lots of money for the full size product.

Since this is my first box of a six month subscription, I’m excited to see how it continues. So far, most organic beauty boxes I’ve subscribed to have gone out of business, sent too small of samples or just not had the variety I was looking for at the price point I wanted.
