Trendy Butler Menswear Subscription Box Review and $10 Coupon

 trendy butler review
Trendy Butler is a mens apparel subscription. They send an array of exclusive menswear clothing from both well known brands and today's new designers.  I had previously tried a menswear subscription called Five Four Club but found that while I liked (or rather, my husband liked) the styles, the quality left a lot to be desired.

Trendy Butler does not have that problem if what we received this month is any indication.  I am so pleased with the quality and my husband has decided he wants to continue getting these packages.
He's been getting jealous that all the boxes are for me so I'll throw him a bone with this one. Haha!
Actually, I'm really happy he likes it because he never likes to buy clothing except a new packages of white T-shirts and underwear at Costco every couple months.  Okay, that's not quite true.  About once a year he goes to Men's Wearhouse and comes home with some new dress shirts, ties and slacks.  He does like to look nice and enjoys "dressing up" for dinner or work.  The only thing he likes about weddings is that he gets to dress up and show off his tie knots.

The Cost: $65/month

What You Get: $150 worth of quality clothing (anywhere from one to three items) from brands you know and fashionable up and coming designers.  Choices are made by a stylist based on your profile answers.

I filled out the style profile, choosing relaxed, casual style categories.  We received a fleece zip up jacket.  It's not a hoodie so I'm calling it a jacket.  Maybe it's called a sweater.  I don't know.  What I do know is that I like it a lot and DH is already wearing it.
It's a Cohesive & Co "Roland" zip sweatshirt with quilted accents.  The elbow pads and upper back panel are a light gray quilt and it really looks great. Inside is a soft cuddly fleece.  This is a thick jacket.  It is very heavy and very warm.
The quilting on the back. It's the same as the patches on the elbows.  I just love these accents.  It adds so much to the "flare" of the jacket and takes it from boring to sophisticated in an instant.  Even though this is a zip up jacket, you could easily wear it with slacks.
I've never heard of Cohesive & Co. so I looked them up and they have some great menswear.  I couldn't find this exact product anywhere so it's possible is very new.  It's sometimes hard to order sight unseen because you just don't know the fit.  This brand works really well for DH.  He has broad shoulders and a slim waist and this fit perfectly.  I ordered a size Medium but if you need to make a return or exchange, Trendy Butler makes it easy to do and the exchange shipping is free unless you are in Canada, Alaska or Hawaii.

VERDICT:  I paid $39 for this on Gilt City so this was really worth it.  In fact, I would have paid the full $55 for the subscription and still considered it a deal.  This is a quality piece of workmanship.  So much better than what I received from Five Four Club, I can hardly believe it.  My husband has said he wants to continue this subscription which is not something he would say if he didn't like what he got. I wanted to take a picture of him wearing it because he looked so handsome but he said no way. I guess I can't blame him for that. :D
Another difference is that while Five Four Club makes their own clothing, Trendy Butler finds clothing from actual designers and manufacturers.  You can find this brand at Nordstroms and Bloomingdales and it isn't cheap.  I looked.
So we will keep this subscription and see what other awesome things Trendy Butler can send us each month!

Your package will ship 10-12 business days after you order and will be delivered by USPS Priority Mail.

If you want to sign up, you can do that here on their website. Use code BITS10 to get $10 off your first box.

UPDATE: This review is old and there have been some changes to their subscription. To get more ideas of the kinds of items Trendy Butler sends, you can see what we've received in later months here.

    2. I've found Trendy Butler to have some of the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. They were totally unresponsive and unhelpful with returns and exchanges that I canceled after 2 months. Definitely don't recommend

    3. I found their customer service to be extremely helpful actually. At least you get to do returns with them, I tried Five Four got crap clothing and had no way to return it. Apparently Five Four Club doesn't allow returns.

    4. I also found the customer service really good. They answered me in 30 min.

    5. Customer service does not get back to you. Tried phone, website email and stylist email from my conversation from my previous month. Not a single reply in 3 days.

  2. They said they canceled my subscription, but they charged me again this morning. Emailed. No response so far. I returned my first item. Fit was very small. I'll stick to hautelook.

    1. I have definitely noticed that it takes a LONG time to get a response from customer service. I ended up exchanging my second months' box clothing for Larges (from Mediums) but that was because I misjudged sizes. I definitely think they go for a more euro-style fit where everything tends to run smaller. We'll see how the Large works and go from there.
I hope you are able to get your charge refunded and that you don't have to dispute it. It's always a nuisance when that happens. I think they may have gotten ahead of themselves business-wise (maybe started too soon before ironing out some of their kinks). They were pretty nice to me but if they charge me again after I cancel, I'm not going to be thrilled. Now I have to go check out Hautelook :D

    2. They did the same thing to me, they informed me that it was a bug in the system which I understand since they are in Beta. Just hit them up, they refunded me promptly and apologized for the issue. Definitely 100X's better than Five Four. Maybe not better than say Trunk Club, but I also don't feel like spending $400 on a single month's package at full MSRP :-(

    3. Ah, that's good to know and I'm glad they fixed it for you quickly. And yes, I totally agree about Five Four Club. This is WAY better.

  4. Just received my first box from Trendy Butler. Very happy with what I received. I got a nice bomber jacket (saw the same jacket in Bloomingdales for $150) and a nice button up shirt. So far so good. Looking forward to seeing what they send in my next box!

    1. We've gotten four shipments from Trendy Butler now. Not a lot has worked for my husband because of his broad shoulders but even though it hasn't worked out, I've been consistently impressed with the variety and brand quality.

  8. This is my first TrendyButler.com review. I received my package on Friday and I was very happy with what I got. The 2 pieces I received were right on point of my style profile I created on the TrendyButler.com website.

I received a customer service call from their concierge department welcoming me to the club. It took my first box 2 weeks for me to receive.

Ill upload pictures to my next review when I receive the next box. BTW, I used TB10 as the promo code and it worked! Saved $10 off my first box.

  10. I am wary of any positive reviews of this site. This company is absolutely ridiculous. They say the box is "$150" on sale for "$60" but the whole thing is just a sham. The items I received are not stylish nor comfortable, and the retail prices are ridiculously over-priced. I was expecting to get something similar to what they show on the website. Instead, the first box I received was a white t-shirt and a navy long-sleeve, both of which were horribly mis-sized (one way too small and one way too large). Even if you try to cancel immediately after you receive the first box, note that you are required to receive and pay for at least one more box before your cancellation kicks in. This time I received 1) an oversized red plaid and 2) finally a well-fitted item. However I still do not want -- it is an uncomfortable plain grey sweatshirt (solid color grey, no designs of any sort, absolutely no different than what you pick up at any store) - but retail of $100 mind you.

The real kicker is -- their customer service is slow and terrible. I recommend all potential customers stay as far away from them as possible. I have been trying to track them down from the last 2 months. Although I already returned items from my first box, they have not issued my replacement items nor refunded my money. They promised multiple times to get back to me immediately but so far nothing has changed.

    1. If you truly are the CEO of the company you need to take a long hard look at your company. I had the worst experience with Trendy Butler. I notice all of the negative reviews get removed. I was blocked from Instagram because I voiced my opinion. What type of company spends so much time and energy blocking negative reviews? Isn't it more worth while to spend that energy trying to improve? If anyone is looking to purchase a Trendy Butler subscription. Here is my review: Don't do it. They took way, way too long (over 30 days!) to deliver my FIRST box. My ONLY request was for summer clothing. I received winter/fall clothing instead. When I complained I was blocked and deleted. Be warned. Do NOT do business with Trendy Butler until they decide to change their ways.

    2. I had the same issue of returning items and even through I was told that i would get the replacement items with my April box, I did not receive them. The phone number stated above is useless, because you only can leave a message and no one gets back to you. I have contacted my "stylist" and the main switchboard with my complaint and have not received a reply in three days. This is NOT good customer service.

  12. Although I am initially qualmish, seeing that the CEO responds to a blog is impressive. This approach to style, dress, and customer service can be challenging as body types vary. I am will to give this a try and spread the word in my professional and personal circles.

  13. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Unless you want late replies and Even latter shipments.

I will admit, I was initially impressed with this company since when I first signed up I got my package quickly and the clothes as many people have said seemed to be well worth it. I also liked that they carried the elusive "XS" size that nobody else carries.

I was so impressed that I almost considered adding another subscription with a different style profile just so I could cancel other services I use such as FiveFour and Fashion Stork..

Well Not anymore. They charge your account on the 15th of every month. And supposedly it takes 7-10 days after that for you to receive their package. Guess what? It's been Over a month and Nothing. No package, no notification of a shipment in the account, Nothing. And then they had the audacity to charge my card again for this Month's package. And yet my account still shows no package for May.

I doubt I'm the only person experiencing this with this service.

    1. Dude... I've spoken with the CEO. He's a little weird, but they're pretty good with their responses. Just contact them and they'll reply back to you. Or are you going to just complain on a blog post?

    2. Dude, DOZENS of ppl are complaining about this service. As someone already signed up to a delivery service that I'm happy with (Fashion Stork) I'm surprised to hear so much negative feedback about this site. I was one click away from signing up when I came across these reviews. I'm 6'7", 240 lbs. I buy most of my clothes online and can't fool around with companies that are sketchy on customer service. That's a huge no-go for me. Where there's smoke, there's fire!

  14. TB10 still works, thanks Sarah! I signed up a few weeks ago and got a call from my "stylist" a couple days later. She said that she had a few follow up questions about my style in order to get me the right box. Boy did they get it right! I got a really nice button down from JACHS NY, a long sleeve shirt from Cohesive and Co. and pullover from Moshuma. It is a steal at $45 for the first box and I will definitely be continuing my subscription at $55.

  15. I got 2 t-shirts and a pair of socks. Didn't like the t-shirts but if you read their return policy, you can only send one item back.. Unfortunately by the time, i tried it on and emailed them to return the item, it was past the 7 day return date.>> DO NOT SUBSCRIBE FROM THEM. You'll be stuck with items you don't like.

  16. I tried the TB10 code and it didn't work for me also tried some codes found at retailmenot and they didn't work either so I wound up just signing up for the service to give it a try. It would've been nice to save 10$ tho.

  17. So I've read the comments on this blog before and after subscribing three months ago. I can say that the customer service center is very responsive. They are also somewhat late with orders. They over-value the clothing. BUT most importantly, the quality and style of the clothing is not what they advertise. I received three of the ugliest shirts I have ever seen in my life. Because of the cut of these shirts, they did not fit although they were my size. I was able to return two. They offered to replace the third but I had enough.
The QUALITY of the clothing is poor. The word "TRENDY" and "FASHION" should be used very lightly with the product. If you have a specific style, taste and quality level DO NOT BOTHER with this service. If only I had received any of the clothing they post on Instagram my review would be very different.
I CANCELLED my subscription due to the lack of quality of the clothing and poor taste level. Customer service was good in that they were quick to respond.

  18. lol dude... funny how I've been a member for four months and have had a very different experience than you. Yeah, sometimes shipping is slower than you'd like, but I heard they're apparently going out of beta this month so I'm figuring delayed shipping will no longer be an issue. As a 20ish something dude in tech, I love tb because I don't have to waste any time thinking about what I'm going to wear. I've received a few items that weren't my style, but I've been able to exchange the items no prob. I've also been making requests for some particular items- I emailed asking them for a new button down shirt to wear to an upcoming conference in SF, and I got one in this month's box. If you're having a bad time with tb, maybe you're just doing it wrong lol. It's been great for me!

  19. I was one of the lucky ones to use tb10 before it stopped working. I got my 3rd package last week and am really happy with what I received. I got a henley, some really nice shorts and a cool pair of socks. I did have to exchange 1 item my first month, but it was a pretty painless process and it seems like now they know what I like and dislike. Very interested to see what they have coming for Fall and Winter. I got the coupon from here so I figured I'd come back and share my experience.

  20. I was extremely unhappy with my experience. It took a month to get my first shipment and in the mean time charged me for my second shipment. When the package arrived, the clothes were not quality, and much smaller than they should have been. I tried to cancel my subscription and asked for a refund on the second charge, in which they said no such luck. Very unhelpful customer service, obviously don't put the customer first. I wouldn't recommend, feel like I got scammed.

  21. DO NOT JOIN!! Worst experience ever! I will say they have great customer service but that can only get you so far. I joined in Early July, and was told by mid July I would receive my first box, I was charged almost right away, three weeks into July no box, I contacted them, again very nice service was told its being processed and I will receive and email within a few days with my tracking #, waited 3 business days and no email, contacted them again and was told the same thing..... I said that I sure hope that I do not get charged for a second month before I even get my first box, they said there was a delay in the system ordering but assured it was on the way..... Now I am well into August and the 17th is approaching (the next auto charge for my next month) and still no box. I ask again and was told the same thing, when informing them I have been told this more than once all they said was, someone would be contacting me with my tracking # soon, I waited till the 15th and no box so I emailed to cancel everything. I was told they where sorry to see me go and I was canceled and someone will be contacting me within 2 business days advising me of my first order and request for a full refund. I wanted 7 days no contact... I reached out and was told again someone will contact me.... another 5 days went by... I emailed again and was finally contacted being told sorry but my order was processed and my "box" was already being processed and I would receive an email with my tracking #, At this point I gave up and gave it one more week before I was going to contact my CC company to dispute the charge however like magic in three days I received an email with my tracking # and waiting one more week now end of Aug. I get my first "box" I opened it and threw it across the room NO joke it was, sweat "shorts" (like work out shorts) and a light weight sweat shirt!!!! Thankful to them I have not been charged a 2nd month and i was officially canceled but I would never recommend this company to anyone!!!

  22. I've been a member since January, and over the past few months they have stepped their game up by tenfold. Most of all, their customer service has gotten WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY better. Trust me, I was frustrated with them at the start like many have been saying, but holy crap they have gotten a thousand times better. I'm probably one of their most annoying customers ever (lol) and I call them every now and then to check up on my order status. They're extremely helpful and watch out for my best interests. Definitely try it out, and they're always willing to exchange items. They don't seem to have a problem with changing out clothes for their members.

  23. I had to jump in here because I have been a member for 2 months now and I've had good experiences so far. I saw an ad for Trendy Butler earlier on in the year and decided to do my homework. I saw the reviews on here and they were hit or miss, so I didn't sign up right away. I did really appreciate that the CEO addressed some of the issues himself and put his info out there. As an entrepreneur and small business owner that really struck a chord with me. When I saw the price was increasing I knew if I wanted to try it out I better do it now. I can say that I am happy with the clothes I've received and the quality. I've now received a great pair of jeans, chinos, a sweater, a shirt and some really nice socks. I do like the fact that I actually spoke to someone after I signed up and as everyone else said, their customer service response time is spot on.

  24. First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for their feedback on our service. As a start-up company, we genuinely appreciate any and all feedback whether that be positive or negative. An early concern of our company was to perfect our customer service and to decrease our response time. We put the time and resources into getting that resolved as I feel that our members' happiness is paramount to building the type of company we can be proud of. I completely stand behind that aspect of our business. We've also redefined our Member Experience and now personally call all new members to get their style to their absolute desire. Rest assured, all of our clothes are made with quality as we have a rigorous process to accept which clothes to go into our packages. We're not a "ship & forget" fashion company, rather we perceive ourselves to be a community of individuals wishing to further their style and family for those who want the opportunity for betterment in their attire.

If you have any questions or concerns with what we offer or what we provide, please email us at bellhop@trendybutler.com or call us Monday - Friday 10am to 5pm PST at (323) 688-4680.

  27. I was first suspicious when signing up with Trendy Butler, especially with all the mixed reviews on this website. I used a $10 coupon code for my first "test & see" package and cancelled immediately after signing up. This is because I wanted to see my first package before any other charges took place. Even with the expectations I had, I was thoroughly surprised with what I received. In my package was a really high quality henley, a pair of chinos, and really comfortable fashionable socks. I emailed after receiving these clothes and asked to restart my subscription. I can't wait for my next month's clothes! I'll leave another review when that comes in.

  28. I also found their customer service to be severely lacking. I ordered a box nearly a month ago. I never got any details sent without me antagonizing first. I was never given any updates even after asking for them. I then asked to cancel because I got tired of waiting for something I paid for long ago and then magically they can't refun my money because my box has shipped. I still haven't received any tracking info on the items so who knows if that's even true. I wouldn't waste my time with trendybutler ill be glad to get this box and hopefully not have to return anything so I can be done with this "company".

  29. For the past year I have pondered the idea of sourcing my wardrobe through an online company such as #trendybutler (TB). While the concept is a great idea this company happens to be horrible in every aspect, from the delivery to customer service. For anyone debating using trendy butler, buyer beware!
I went through what I thought was a quality selection process defining my personal taste and style. Considering I am tall muscular man finding clothes that fit me well is challenging. Trendy Butler having an option for muscular was a plus in my book. Without boring you all with the ridiculous course of events, the product I received was not only not my style but didn’t fit. Additionally, I have to remove price tags before trying on clothes because it irritates my skin. Don’t you dare do that, TB associates that to the merchandise being damaged and will not take it back. Furthermore, TB advertises that you get an entire outfit top, bottoms, shoes and accessories. This is also not the case and consider it false advertising. At best their ads eludes that you get what is in the picture in some variation within the current style catalog.
In short, I returned the 2 unworn shirts damage free other than the tags being attached. I shortly received an email stating that they are being returned to me because the tags are unattached even after I explained my issues.
TB is simply not a value to the consumer. Had there been some level of cooperation there would be no reason for this review. Unfortunately I am now stuck with $65 worth of ugly shirts that don’t fit, lesson learned!

    1. Please email me directly at diana@trendybutler.com. We would love to make this up to you as both customer experience and satisfaction are very important to us. That said, we are still fine-tuning our process flow (as we launched a little over a year ago), so I wanted to reach out to ensure you were happy. All feed-back is important as far as I am concerned. I did check with the customer service manager and confirmed that your account has been fully refunded even though the tags were removed. We have that rule in place to ensure integrity in the process of exchanges. Even though that rule exists, we always make exceptions for special cases like yours. Let us make it up to you and show you what a wonderful experience it can be to be a member of Trendy Butler. Contact me directly and I will comp you a box, and hopefully earn your business back at some point down the road.

  30. Looking for a review of Trendy Butler? Wondering if it's all too good to be true?

    TLDR: It most certainly is.

Trendy Butler is a terrible business model.

Trendy Butler sent me two shirts that were laughably bad. I tried them on to show my wife just how awful. She laughed at me.

Trendy Butler WILL NOT give you a refund if you're unsatisfied.

Now Trendy Butler is laughing, all the way to the bank with my money.

Yes, I was intrigued by the price. Yes, I was motivated to purchase subscription clothing because I hate going to the mall and being run over by a marauding mob of morons chasing Pokemon on their phones with a blatant disregard for human life - mine or theirs.

No, I was not expecting there to be zero course of action for a refund from Trendy Butler when the clothes arrived and were not up to snuff.

First, there were zero instructions included in the package. Not even an invoice. Nothing. Being my first time using their service, it would have been nice to know that should I remove a tag in order to try on the shirt that it would null any opportunity for a return or refund.I'm sure it was buried in the terms & conditions in the footer of their website. In 6 point font size, of course.

Second, after engaging in an email exchange with a support agent, I was repeatedly apologized to but given no recourse. After stewing in my frustration juices for a few days, I wrote her back and asked to have my case escalated to speak with a manager, who called after 2 days.

MEANWHILE, a charge for the clothing was placed on my credit card for $65. The manager, also apologetic, was "willing to step outside of their policy" but I was told I would have to pay for the return shipping and that a refund was not possible.

MEANING that I would have to endure another crappy, poorly made batch of clothes until I managed to have a stranger send me something I might find wearable.

Major, major service design fail, say nothing of the customer service fail.

Do yourself a favor fellow consumer and avoid this business with extreme prejudice. Trendy Butler is neither trendy, nor service-focused.

And isn't that what we expect any good butler to be?

  31. ****BUYER BEWARE****
This company has a very misleading return policy that fooled me into signing up. I was very hesitant to sign up for a subscription clothing service as my main fears were receiving clothes that did not fit or that I did not like. Furthermore, I was worried that items would be difficult to return or exchange or that I would have to pay costly shipping fees for returns.

However, upon reading through their home page it explicitly states: “No hassle exchanges. Don’t love it? Return it to us for free. We mean it.” I thought this was too good to be true so I clicked on the “learn more” right below to read the caveats. Their fine print states that “All members have 7 business days from the date received, to exchange items in their order. Simply email us at concierge@trendybutler.com and we will send you a return/exchange form to fill out along with a pre-paid postage label. All items must be received in unworn condition, no tears or any visible signs of usage can be present otherwise the item will not be accepted.”

This policy seemed simple enough. I believed that if my clothes did not fit or the style was not to my liking I could return them or exchange them for a product that more suited/fit me. I did not see any additional links in their return policy so I believed that their return/exchange policy was as simple as they made it out to be - and as such, I signed up for their service.

Upon receiving my first package, I tried on the clothes immediately. The pants they shipped me were way too tight for me and the shirt they sent me was way too long for me. In line with their policy, I immediately emailed them for a return label so that I would be well within the 7 days to return/exchange items.

When I received the email response, I was notified immediately that “Unfortunately, we do not accept returns.” I was dumbfounded as the homepage on their website explicitly stated “Return it to us for free. We mean it.” The email reply then said they can “definitely have the items exchanged if you find them unsatisfactory.”

Already realizing that this service was not what it was advertising itself to be, I cancelled my subscription. However to cut my losses, I replied that I would like to exchange my items for clothing that fit me. Their reply to this exchange was “Unfortunately free exchanges are available for active members only as the replacement items are added to the monthly packages to save on shipping cost. We can still exchange the items you received but you may cover the $15 shipping cost.” I was also provided a link to their FAQ that stated what I was just told.

I was in complete disbelief. Nowhere in their return policy on their homepage was this mentioned. Furthermore, to find this FAQ, I had to look at the very bottom of their website. If they had provided a link to this FAQ where they stated their return policy on their homepage I would never have signed up. Needless to say, I am frustrated with this service and would like to warn others thinking of signing up to be aware of their true return/exchange policy.

  32. FYI, they have a deal for "$15 Off First Box & Free Shipping" valid through 9/30 with promo code 15OFFNOW. Usually they only offer $10 Off the first box.
