Birchbox March 2015 "Get Creative" Box Review and Coupon Code

Birchbox is a staple sample beauty box.  Rumor has it they were the first on the scene and they're still going strong.  It's not my favorite subscription box but it is affordable, gives great access to samples and the points system is second to none.  At $10 it's not hard to justify getting a little treat in the mail and once you've received a few and reviewed the items on their website, you'll have money to spend in their shop.  The Birchbox shop is seriously legit, too.  You can buy anything from Jonathan Adler coasters to Clairsonics.  If you rack up enough points, you can get these things for free!
Everything arrived in this special, extra colorful box.  Since the theme is Creativity, it makes sense to have a better-than-usual box!

The Cost: $10/month

What You Get: Five samples and sometimes full size items, including everything from makeup and skin care to non beauty essentials like candles and tea. Plus a really great points program.
Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner- Pfft.  More hair stuff.  I have so much of this Number 4 stuff hanging around.  Actually...  Maybe I should take this stuff to Vegas with me.  It could be better than what's in the hotel room.  Possibly.

Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray- Spray this into your damp hair before blowdrying and give yourself a "sleek yet bouncy" hairdo.  Since I just got more of my favorite Oscar Blandi Texture and Volume Spray in my Allure Sample Society, I don't need this yet.  I do love the pretty packaging, though.
Cover FX BB Gel Mattifying Anti-Blemish Treatment- This is a traditional BB cream without any shine.  Thank goodness.  I don't like the "dewy" look.  I used this today because it came in "Light" and while it was a teensy bit dark, it works pretty well.  It doesn't feel much like a gel but a little goes a long way, at least for me.  The tube is actually half empty so there's probably two good applications in the sample.  I think I liked it but I'm going to have to give it one more try before I make that decision.
Harvey Prince "Sincerely"- You can't full opt out of receiving fragrances but you can mark that you want six or less a year.  I don't like getting perfume but I make an exception for Harvey Prince.  I actually was introduced to his "Hello" by Birchbox and found I surprisingly liked it!
It's too bad this is half empty because it has a lid (!!) for the little spray vial!  Maybe I don't get out much but I thought that was awesome.  The fact that it also smells pretty good (not as good as Hello) is a plus as well.

Mirenesse Glossy Kiss in Cheeky Kiss- This is a super pretty color and I love it.  I also loved the Mirenesse Lip Stain I got in a previous Birchbox.  Except that when it says stain, it really means STAINS! I now have lip stain stains on my pillowcase. :(  Hopefully, this Cheeky Kiss doesn't have that problem but I'm not going to find out!

VERDICT:  This Birchbox was a little too hair heavy for me.  That's because I hate getting hair stuff, though.  Obviously, I shouldn't get mad at them for sending it to me because it's a sample box and sometimes you just get things you don't really want.  And it has perfume. Ew.  However, the box is redeemed by the Mirenesse and the great color it is.  I'll possibly use the Amika, too.  Because while I complain about getting hair crap in my boxes, I really probably should just start using it because my hair does need some attention.  Still.  The sizes included are great.  Large enough to be used more than once and with the Mirenesse, it's practically full size.

If you'd like to sign up for Birchbox, you can do that right here.  They are a lot of fun, I can't deny it. When you sign up, use code JILLIAN and you will get 100 points added to your Birchbox account. That's $10 to spend in their shop.  Trust me, you'll find something.  Hopefully that code is still working.

  1. I chose the Amika as my sample choice for this month, so I hope it's good for both of our sakes! I also really like Harvey Prince perfumes. I haven't tried "Sincerely" but "Hello" is wonderful.

    1. The packaging is irresistibly cute on the Amika. And it's a really good size sample, too. I never expected to like any perfume I might get in a sub box but Harvey Prince proved me wrong.

  2. I hate the Number 4 hair stuff. Makes my hair smell like old lady. I do love the cute Amika bottle. And I agree about the Harvey Prince. I'm always pleasantly surprised how nice the samples smell.

When I look at that box though, I see a mouthful of cavity-riddled teeth!

    1. Totally agree on that No.4! And I thought of deviled eggs (among other things) when I saw the box. Now I see cavity-riddled teeth! :D

  3. The CoverFX BB looks promising. You should take the Number 4 hair stuff with you on your trip! I think it smells nice.

    1. I ended up totally forgetting any kind of shampoo or soap so I had to use the hotels. Mmm.. Gilchrist and Soames. It didn't smell bad and my hair was fine so I wasn't too unhappy at forgetting my super awesome pear tangerine BBW body wash that I had set out. I mean, I was unhappy but not devastated. Because that BBW stuff smells so good I want to eat it.
