Ipsy March 2015 Flower Power Review

My Ipsy Glambag for March 2015 showed up as a complete surprise!  I had forgotten about it because it's taken so long to get it.  Usually it seems like I have mine by the second week of the month.  Since I had only posted two of the spoilers I didn't really know what I was getting since I hadn't been paying attention.  It's kinda fun to let that happen sometimes.

The Cost: $10/month.

What You Get: Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products.

Pur-lisse pur-delicate Soy Milk Cleanser- I'm going to be honest.  I was not happy to see what I thought was another Pur-lisse moisturizer.  Since I'm still floating in them, I really didn't want one more.  Much to my surprise, it's a cleanser! This is very creamy and has a light floral scent.  For those of you interested in pH, I tested this and it came out a 7 which is higher than I'd like but not outrageous.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion- This is a silicon based moisturizer that contains a little retinol and unfortunately, lavender oil. GAH! Why does everything have lavender in it!?  It's not even good for your face! It's an irritant that especially those with sensitive skin should avoid.  Grrrr.  So I can't really test it's mattifying powers.  Bummer.
BooBoo Cover Up- This has the most ridiculous name ever but I still wanted to try it.  Unfortunately, it is so yellow I can't use it.  It goes really orangey on me.

Jessica Liebeskind Vintage Highlighter in Crystal Pink- This is a shimmery, sheer pink highlighter to be worn on top of fresh skin or as a delicate highlight over blush. I haven't opened this yet but I'm tempted.  Most of my highlighters are light colors and I have pink undertones on cool skin and this looks like it might be perfect.  My biggest hesitation is the level of sparkle it has.  It's pretty shimmery and I don't really like that much "hey, look at me" at my age. Not that I'm ancient history or anything but I've never really enjoyed the shiny, dewy, sparkle face look.
NYX Butter Lipstick in Hunk- Now this is the pièce de résistance! This is gorgeous!  NYX calls it a blue violet.  I think that's what I call magenta.  This looks unbelievable with my skintone and makes my teeth look extra white which is always a plus. It applies perfect, intense color in one swipe.  It has kind of a moist feel and subtle shine.  I am head over heels for this. It looked so scary when I first opened it but it is stunning.  Love the color, love the formulation and love the price.

VERDICT: So just getting this NYX lipstick makes the Ipsy bag worth it this month.  Nothing else in the bag is something I will use but being introduced to the NYX lipstick is worth the ten bucks.  I am actually sad about the lavender oil in the Dr. Brandt because I was looking forward to trying it. Drat my allergies!  I wish they wouldn't put skintone specific items in bags like this but I know it's inevitable.  This months bag itself is kind of hideous and I don't like how the zipper doesn't go all the way to the end but I don't really end up using these anyway.  The only Ipsy bag I actually use is the May 2014 bag.  And I use it all the time.  Love it.

If you'd like to sign up for Ipsy and get your own bag, you can do that right here.  There is a waitlist but it's possible you can get off more quickly by sharing an Ipsy post on Facebook.  It's a lot of fun to get an Ipsy bag, I won't lie!  Plus it's so affordable at $10/month.  I think Ipsy sends more makeup than Birchbox so if you're trying to decide between the two, keep that in mind.

  1. Yeah, ipsy is so touch and go. I got tired of getting so many repeats and stuff I won't use. I had to let em go.

  2. That NYX lipstick looks amazing! I'll have to look for it when I go Target shopping.

  3. I signed back up after a year's absence because, really, for $10 shipped, there ARE some nice and usable products in every bag. And some of the bags are really cute ( small but cute). This was one of my first subs back in 2012 or so.

I used your link, Sarah. :) I also wasn't waitlisted because I have an existing account, and the Glam Bag part of the site shows what I assume I am getting. 5 products are highlighted, the rest are grayed out, so I guess the highlighted items are going to be mine. One is the NYX lippie. And the nail polish ( hoping for the blue). Also a great looking brush. The two items I'm not wild about at this time are the Dr. Brandt and the ivory highlighter pencil.. But- sometimes a white eye pencil can make a light shadow really show up ( NYX's Milk comes to mind).

    Hopeful old new subscriber

    1. I am so glad to hear that you weren't waitlisted as a returning customer! I've hesitated to cancel just because when I do want to sign back up again, I don't want to get stuck on the waitlist :D I wasn't expecting to like the NYX as much as I do. I think there were three colors available and the one I received was not the one I was hoping for. I'm actually really glad I ended up with it because I am loving the color.
Let me know how it goes! Thank you for using my link, I always love it!

  4. Ahhhh so jealous of your Ipsy bag! XD I've been interested in the honey boo boo coverup (even though it would probably make me look like I have a terrible tan haha) and the dr. Brandt product (how does everything have lavender in them???). And that NYX shade you got is AMAZING. NYX lipsticks are my favorite. :D

    1. For being as cheap as they are, the NYX lip glosses/butters/lipsticks have all made me very happy. It kind of makes me want to run to Ulta and get all the colors... I don't know what was up with the Boo Boo cover up (did you even realize you write "honey boo boo" :D ?) because it went straight up orange the second it touched my skin.

    2. OMG....... LSKDJFLKSJDLFK HAHHAHAHAHAH HONEY BOO BOO. Oh god, someone shoot me now. XD I blame all the TV commercials about that show. But yessss to all of the NYX lip products! They're some of the best for their value. :D

    3. Ok, whew!!! I'm so glad to hear that it was from commercials, not because you're hooked on that show! :D
