Allure Sample Society April 2015 Review

The Allure Sample Society April 2015 box has two of my favorite things in it! This is a subscription box that I love mainly because of the brand quality. Sample Society specializes in higher end brands so you won't find the types of things in one of these boxes than you would in an Ipsy bag.

The Cost: $15/month

What You Get: Five deluxe-size beauty samples from a curated mix of skin, hair, and makeup products as well as fragrance. You'll also receive $10 gift card to redeem on any $50 Beauty Bar purchase every month.

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Rio- I absolutely adore this tiny lipsticks. Especially because even though they're sample size, they twist up and then completely down like a real lipstick should. I haven't noticed any plumping effects but it does have a tingly effect from the use of peppermint oil in the formula. I find it quite hydrating and the small size means I can hide this baby anywhere for touchups no matter if I have a handbag or not.

Benefit Porefessional- This is a makeup primer and it's popped up in a lot of subscriptions lately. The description says that it's velvety smooth and has a peachy tint. Because of that peachy tint, I'm going to avoid this. Many "peach" type products go wonkily orange on my cool toned skin. Of course, I won't know for sure til I try it. It is silicone based, which is my favorite kind of primer since it makes my skin so silky soft. Just remember that this isn't really going to make your pores disappear. Nothing can do that, though a good cover up may work for a while.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream- Normally I despise getting perfume samples in my boxes. And Sample Society does this way too often in my opinion. They're lucky everything else is so good all the time or I would quit in protest. However! This time is a Marc Jacobs fragrance that I've been wanting to try so I'm giving them a pass. Marc Jacobs just has my perfume number. I pretty much love every perfume he has although the original Marc Jacobs is still my favorite.
This one has blackberry, grapefruit, pear, jasmine, lychee, blue wisteria, white woods, musk and coconut water.

Illume Tonka Noir Candle- I've discovered (through subscription boxes, of course) that I really enjoy travel candles. Or wait, candles of any kind. At least if they smell good. I'm going to need to reinstate my Flickerbox subscription soon. This candle smells like vanilla with mandarin, plum, rose, jasmine, tonka bean, musk and sandalwood. I love it!
Mt. Sapola Lavender-Chamomile Body Lotion- This is a light body lotion that leaves no residue and is infused with lavender and chamomile essential oils.  The scent is quite strong and I can smell the lavender without even having opened the jar. My allergies definitely kicked in. This will be passed along to someone else to love.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil- This oil is for all hair types and will enhance shine, prevent frizz and smooth your flyaways. Since I could practically fly away on my flyaways I should use this. It has argan oil, coconut oil, macadamia nut, sweet almond and grapeseed oils. I usually use oils on my dry, frazzly ends since I've got such fine hair to begin with. The last thing it needs is to be plastered to my scalp. I'm all about volume sprays right now. This oils smells very good but it's a pretty light scent. I really had to stick my hair up my nose to smell it which is too bad because it's a nice tropical scent.

VERDICT: While at first I was a little bummed about the small samples, I realized that the candle and the lipstick makes up for any shortcomings I might feel the box has. Plus I always appreciate the good brands included. I will always hate getting perfume but that's just the way it is.
This box routinely includes products I can use and I'm always happy with the brands included.

If you would like to sign up for Sample Society, you can do that here on the Beauty Bar website. While Allure curates the box, Beauty Bar sells it for them so that's why you won't find it on the Allure site. You can also try using the coupon code 5FORYOU if you are a first time subscriber. I'm not sure of the expire date on it but it's worth a try!

  1. I'm reading through some of these Sample Society reviews today b/c of the change to a straight Allure box... I've never subbed to this one, but I might after I see a review or 2 of the new format!

In this review you mentioned reinstating your Flicker Box sub so I was wondering if you did? I subbed after seeing the April box (I wanted some of those kitchen scents so bad but I was too late! I can still get them on etsy though...) and ended up getting the May box - I LOVED it! I can't decide which I love more, the Jasmine scent or the Lilac one! The Peony was wonderful too. (no lavender!)
I unsubbed for June because 1) we'll be out of the country for 2 weeks next month 2) it takes me forever to burn candles since I always forget 3) I've been signing up for too many boxes! mostly beauty... 4) I'm picky about scents and I've decided I can just read about candles on blogs and then go to etsy and buy the exact ones I want!

    1. I did resub to Flickerbox! The theme sounded fun so I went ahead and did it. I tend not to like florals so I waited for May to sell out. And then I swapped for the Lilac one after all! I've been burning way more often now that I have so many. I like having them around.
I hear you on too many boxes. Trust me ;)
I do like that Etsy products turn up so much. It makes it easy to get more of what I like. :D
