VellaBox April 2015 Standard Candle Box Subscription Review

Vellabox is a new candle subscription that I'm really excited about. It's fun because you have so many subscription options. We all know candle subscriptions are on the pricey side because well, candles are expensive and so is shipping heavy things. But in this case, you can spend just $10 a month if you want!

If you love artisan, handpoured candles this is going to be something you will want to try. These are not mass produced candles with a plethora of dyes. Candles you receive will be soy, small batch and in gorgeous scents. All are made in the USA. If the one I received is anything to go by, I'm pretty sure I can't live without this.
Vellabox was so named because 'vela' means candle in Spanish. I think it's a pretty name and I love the colors and logo used. And the box? Pretty perfect for shipping. I've been shipping a bunch of things lately and boxes now have a lot more meaning.

I received the Standard Box which is $10/month and contains one candle with an approximate 25 hour burn time.  Your other options are the Aficionado Box with an 8oz, 50 hour burn time candle for $20/month or the Luxe Box with 1-2 candles (12 oz) with a 75 hour burn time for $30/month. I would hope the Luxe Box always came with two candles because it's more scent options.

Look at how cute all the packaging is! I love it. I think I'm going to be sticking the little bookmark/note to my husbands computer so he'll see it when he gets home.
The candle I received this month is P.F. Candle Co.'s Amber and Moss. It's a 3.5oz soy candle with 20 hours of burn time. It smells unbelievably good. I would say it's sort of a unisex scent, if that means anything. Both my husband and I thought it smelled fantastic. It's not sweet, it's very sensual and green-foresty-muskily awesome.

Here's the description from the website:

Mossy and clean right out of the jar, this fragrance’s base of musk and amber evokes a damp, wooded forest floor layered with soft oakmoss. A hint of lavender and an infusion of sage and orange essential oils brighten up this earthy scent.

I love the cleanness of the scent. It's just barely citrusy and I don't smell any lavender at all. Which is good, since I'm allergic. I was actually surprised to read it in the description. I just started burning it so we'll see if that changes once it gets going.
Value: $11

VERDICT: I think Vellabox is a wonderful way for someone to experience new candlemakers, fun and unusual scents, support small businesses and get a delivery each month dedicated to making you smile. We all know good quality, artisan candles aren't cheap and Vellabox makes it possible to get them for a reasonable price with free shipping. I'm excited to see the other brands available and the other kinds of scents people have received.

I think the only thing I would like better is getting more than one candle in the bigger boxes. I wouldn't mind getting 2 4oz candles in two different scents in an Aficionado Box instead of one 8oz. But I tend to go more for scents than burn time anyway. The benefit is that there's more ways to find a scent you never knew existed, that you now can't live without.

Other than that, I really love the fact that there are several price points. It's not usual with a candle subscription. It's a huge benefit of Vellabox. I'm far more likely to spend $10 or $20 on a candle box (probably $10 during the summer but $30 once fall hits!) and I'm already pleased with the quality.

If you would like to sign up, head to the Vellabox website and look at what they have to offer. Their website is clean, concise and easy to navigate. They currently ship only to the US but Canada will be added in June. They ship twice a month on the 5th and 15th so you'll get a shipment the month you sign up in! Cancelling is easy and done right from your account on the site.

What do you think about this? Do you think you'd be more likely to try a candle subscription this way?

*This box was sent to me for review purposes. All opinions are mine and I love candles!

  1. Ooh, a new candle box. Looks nice. I like that they offer a $10 option - thirty bucks isn't really that much in the world of candles, but I would be bummed if I spent that much and ended up with a candle or two I hated. Ten bucks seems worth the risk. :)
