Barkbox May 2015 Review Plus Free Box Offer

The May 2015 Barkbox is amazing. I managed to lose the information card while I was reorganizing my office space so this might be a review more sparse on the details this month. I get a lot of dog boxes but Barkbox tends to reign supreme in originality. This month's theme is "Garden Party" and I didn't want to share one of the items with the dogs. Seriously. I kept the bouquet.

The Cost: $34/month. (That includes shipping. They've changed their pricing structure recently).

What You Get: Every month you will receive a box in the mail with four or more carefully selected products and presents for your dog – anything from toys, bones and all-natural treats to hygiene products and innovative new gadgets!

Loot Crate May 2015 "Unite" Review and Coupon Code

The May 2015 "Unite" Loot Crate went over really well in my household. Mostly because of the Green Power Ranger T-shirt. These boxes tend to be full of silly things and sometimes silly things are useful.
Every month Loot Crate will send a box of gamer/nerd/geeky goodies to your door. Sometimes there will be a T-shirt but not always. Sometimes you'll get a Funko collectible instead. Each box is catered toward a specific theme and contains items that relate (at least loosely) to it. This month had a "Unite" theme and was about teams.

The Cost: $19.95/month, including the shipping.

What You Get: Awesome gamer/geek loot! Sometimes T-shirts (like this month!) Plenty of comment inducing collectibles to surround your computer desk with, all delivered right to your door.

Birchbox Man June 2015 Review and Coupon Codes!

Birchbox Man has not thrilled me. This month was better than my last two months in terms of sample sizes, though, so I'm happy. The issue now is that my husband is less likely to go through his samples as fast as I would. So I think I will be cancelling for at least a few months until he catches up. He is NOT the type to stockpile samples like I do and I don't really want to be responsible for keeping all his stuff or making sure he uses it.

The best thing about Birchbox Man is the Lifestyle Selection that you get to make each month. It does tend to pay for the box and this month's was pretty nice.

The Cost: $20/month

What You Get: Each box includes 3-4 grooming samples, plus a stylish accessory or gadget.

Loot Crate June 2015 Theme and Coupon Code

loot crate june theme and coupon code
The June 2015 Loot Crate theme is CYBER! No, not that kind. It's all about robots and cyborgs! Expect to see Borderlands, Terminator Genisys and a T-shirt this month! And who doesn't love tech-themed collectibles?!

I always like getting a T-shirt since it automatically makes the month worth it. There's only been one that hasn't gone over well with DH and that was the Halloween skull made out of cats. That was okay because I got it in girl size so it's mine. I don't mind wearing a black shirt with a white skull on it. Even if it is made of cats.

So, grab your favorite hot pocket (mine are Pepperoni) and a can of Mountain Dew (or Dr. Pepper is my fave) and go sign up for the June Loot Crate. Use code SAVE3 to get $3 off your first box. I think that makes it $16.99 or something.

*referral link was used in this post. Thank you in advance if you choose to use it and may you receive epic loot in your next boss battle. :D

Glossybox May 2015 Review and Coupon Codes

Glossybox is probably one of the most recognizable beauty subscription boxes beyond Birchbox. They are nothing alike other than the fact that they send you a mystery box each month. Glossybox sends deluxe samples and full size products from both well known and up and coming brands. The quality is pretty good and you'll get some useful, fun things. Or at least, I have. Plus some of the best skincare out there.

Glossybox is definitely geared toward young, professional women. I'm sure a high school young lady would like this box, too, but there is a definite lean toward skincare that would probably be a disappointment for someone looking solely for makeup.

The Cost: $21/month.

What You Get: Five luxury deluxe sized beauty essentials, from both well-known and emerging brands, delivered to your door each month.

Bare Bliss Box May 2015 Review

Bare Bliss Box is a subscription box that focuses on natural and organic products.  I purchased a six month subscription via Gilt City which makes my boxes about $12/month. At this point I would say they were worth the $12 but not worth the full price of $20. Sad but true. There are far better boxes out there if you are looking for earth friendly products.

The Cost: $19.99/month.

What You Get: A carefully curated box of 4-5 organic, non-toxic, all-natural and cruelty free skincare and beauty products.

Sample Society Subscription Update

Thankfully, Sample Society is not going away! Instead it's going to be completely managed by Allure. If you've been a subscriber, you know that it's always been curated by Allure but you purchase your subscription through the website.

The new box will be called the Allure Beauty Box. It seems like they may have been leaning toward this since last year's rebranding but might have needed time to get everything into place. It also explains the closing of subscriptions for new members.

Here's the official announcement:

SmartArt May 2015 Review ~ Paul Cézanne (Plus Coupon Code!)

Smart Art is a subscription box for artists. Or would-be, wish-they-were artists like me. I had a lot of fun with this months box and even though it's on the pricier side, I'm getting another one. It's fun to experiment and do something a little out of the ordinary.

I'm no great artist, let me start by saying that. I haven't truly worked on any art for years. I did get an A in Art Class when I was in 8th grade. I can't even calculate how long ago that was. I also got a C in Ceramics (my only C ever, ugh). My favorite medium is pencils. Colored pencils, regular pencils, whatever. Pencils. In the manner of full disclosure, I'm not creative. I'm really good at copying other people's work or looking at something and re-creating it. But something off the top of my head? Not so much.

This month the focus is on Paul Cezanne. "Cezanne was ahead of his time and used his understanding of color patterns to create illusions of three-dimensionality. This technique makes his works highly recognizable." Sadly, I have to admit that I pay little attention to artists and probably the only thing I can ultimately recognize is Starry Night. Mainly because I hate it so much. Or Picasso because it's all so ugly. And I suppose that one guy who "paints light." Urgh. I forgot his name but he's pretty recent and was popular for awhile in the 90's. Thomas Kincade! That's it.

The Cost: $49.95/month

What You Get: Each month subscribers receive a new box featuring a different artist that highlights their time period, 8-11 full sized art supplies, a suggested project and a detailed pamphlet introducing a new art medium.

Memebox Better Skin Box #skindeep Review and Coupon Codes

Memebox sells all sorts of Korean beauty products and supplies as well as their signature Memeboxes.  Each Memebox has a theme and contains items based on it.  This particular Memebox is all about skincare. It's something I have a hard time resisting. Some people love the Korean makeup but I love the Korean skincare.
When the Better Skin Box was released, I immediately bought it. No hesitation. Memebox has been expanding it's brand portfolio and I was really hoping to get some good stuff. Not necessarily weird, which has definitely been known to happen with the older "shipped from Korea" Memeboxes but just... effective. Some brands are better than others. I feel like the cutesy brands like Tony Moly and Holika Holika are less about effectiveness than say, Goodal or LJH. There's definitely a range.

This box is currently sold out but that doesn't mean it won't come back in stock so keep your eye out if you want this.

The Cost: $40

What You Get: A collection of mystery Korean beauty items geared toward skincare.

Ipsy June 2015 Unofficial Sneak Peek!

Every Ipsy subscriber in June will receive ONE of these two products in their Ipsy bag!  You'll either get the TooFaced Melted Long Wear Lipstick OR the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer.

Of course, you'll also get a cute little makeup bag and four other samples, too!

The Cost: $10/month

What You Get: Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products.

If you'd like to sign up for Ipsy, you can do that here.  You likely won't get this month's bag unless there's some magic happening and you share on Facebook and get off the waitlist immediately because of it. I hate the waitlist.
Anyway!  Sign up if you like getting a mixed bag of treats sent to your door every month for only $10.  It's more makeup than anything else so if that's what you're looking for at a reasonable price, Ipsy is here for you.

1Up Box May 2015 "Sidekick" Review and Coupon Code

1Up Box is a geek/gamer type subscription box. I usually get Loot Crate but I've decided to test out other boxes. I'm SO glad I picked this month to get 1Up Box because the contents were perfect! The theme was sidekick and contained some fantastic Adventure Time goodies.
The true Adventure Time fan is my husband. He watches the episodes on his phone while he's working or before bed. Since we share an office, I hear all the episodes even if I don't see them all. So yes, I sing the Bacon Pancakes song.

The Cost: $18.92/month (that includes shipping)

What You Get: $40+ Value of awesome stuff in each box. Every month features a new collection with an exclusive EPIC Shirt!

RawSpiceBar Peruvian Andes May 2015 Spice Box Review

RawSpiceBar sends packets of freshly toasted and ground spices to your door each month. Your envelope will also include recipes for each spice blend and a little historical information about the area the spices are from.
This month the spice blends are a twist on the La Sierra cuisine of the Andes in Peru. Some of the most famous Peruvian spices are included. Smoked paprika, aji amarillo and pink peppercorns highlight the three dishes recommended for you to prepare.

The Cost: $6/month (in 3 month increments)

What You Get: Each month, you will be sent 3-4 spice blends which are enough to create 3 separate dishes serving 8-12 people. The spice blends will weigh between 1-3 ounces each month. You will also receive recipe cards using the blends and access online to other recipe options.

PetGiftBox May 2015 Small Dog Box Review + $5 Off Your First Box

PetGiftBox really outdid themselves this month. The May 2015 box was dedicated to honoring the veterans (and their dogs) who have served us in the military. Not only was the box packed with goodies and SO worth it but it totally tugged at my heartstrings.

This is the Small Dog box from PetGiftBox. This dogbox is so affordable at the yearly rate it's almost a challenge to NOT subscribe to it.  This is a fairly new subscription but they've been improving every month. They've changed their subscription plan prices. It used to be $17.99 a month but now they've increased the month-to-month price (understandably) to $27.99. If you get the one year plan, it still is $17.99.

The Cost: $27.99/month. (Or get the Groupon deal!!)

What You Get: A box of four to six toys and treats for your pet.

Birchbox x Cupcakes and Cashmere May 2015 Review and $1 First Box Offer!

I ended up getting two Birchboxes this month. That's because I signed up for a second one in order to get the free Beauty Blender. I've never used one before but everyone seems to love them so I wanted to try it without spending $20 on it.

This month's box is a collaboration between Birchbox and the woman who runs the Cupcakes and Cashmere blog. I don't really know anything about the blog but it appears to be for home design and recipes.

My first box was such a travesty of accident and awful that I could barely bring myself to take a photo much less review it. It had the most boring stuff in it, including a Harvey Prince Yogini sample that spilled everywhere. The only good thing was a Tokyo Milk Hand Cream.

This review is for the second box. This box is not on my regular year subscription. One thing I like about Birchbox is their points-for-review system. It's what keeps me subscribed. I spend $10 on the box, get 5 samples and then get $5 back in points for reviewing them. Then I get to spend the points in the HUGE Birchbox shop. My wishlist is always way longer than my points allow for so I always have something I want to spend my new points on.

The Cost: $10/monthly +tax

What You Get: Five samples and sometimes full size items, including everything from makeup and skin care to non beauty essentials like candles and tea. Plus a really great points program.

Something Snacks is a snack subscription that sends both familiar and unfamiliar snacks. So if you're like me and you're only a little adventurous this could be what you are looking for. Meikoko BCDation May 2015 Asian Beauty Subscription Box Review

This review is for the brand new Meikoko BCDation subscription box. It's all about Asian beauty.

As you know, I'm sorta hooked on Kbeauty. Not that it's the only thing I use but I really do like the general approach to skincare. Effective ingredients, an absence of unneccessary additives and a less is more so that "less" better be good type of thing. At least, that's how it appears to me and those are the things I look for.
This BCDation box offers an opportunity to test some products, especially BB creams and get to know the brands and skincare routines a little better. Every box will include one full size product, one sheet mask, 2-3 deluxe samples and 3-4 foil samples. The BCDation box will also always contain one BB or CC cream for you to try out.

The Cost: $16.99/month

What You Get: Every month you'll receive one BB or CC cream, at least one full size product, 2-3 deluxe size products and some samples all dedicated to expanding your kbeauty collection.
There was no information card explaining the products (or how to use them) which hopefully will be remedied in future boxes. For people new to Asian beauty that kind of thing is essential. However, there was a card explaining BB, CC and Cushion Compacts. Kbeauty 101, indeed! :D
Skinfood Good Afternoon Peach Green Tea SPF 20 BB Cream-30g- This is an oil controlling, skin mattifying BB cream. I will tell you right now that I was prepared to hate it. I squirted some out and it looked so orange I almost gave up right then. I'm glad I didn't. It smoothed perfectly on my skin like it was made for it. It *is* mattifying which is something I highly prefer over the "glow" so many would rather have.
The real test will come tomorrow when I wear it all day but so far, I'm very impressed. It also smell divine. Peach, of course. Oh, and this appears to be #2 Natural Beige. Since I normally would have gone for the #1 Light Beige I'm even more surprised it works so well for me. Maybe I got a tan from gardening?
Value: $10

The Face Shop Lovely:Me Ex Dessert Lip Balm in Strawberry- This came in a little jute bag that said Hello on it. I'm not sure if it's part of the box or if it's because I was one of the first subscribers. I think for now (since I have no idea) I'm going to count it as part of the box.
It's adorable. You flip up the chocolate lid and there's a little spoon thing in there. Then you unscrew the pink part from the glass jar and voila! Strawberry lip gloss! It smells strawberry(ish) and although it's ridiculously cute, the whole applying gloss with a spoon nubby is awkward. The gloss itself is pretty moisturizing but sticky.
Value: $9
Laneige Water Bank Essence-10ml- I haven't tried a whole lot of Laneige. Just the Pore Cleansing Oil which I love and the Sleeping Pack which was just okay. So I'll have to test this out. It's a nice 10ml deluxe sample with a pump so that's awesome.

Missha Super Aqua Ultra water-full Control Emulsion-Contains Aqua-STEM to moisturize and control skin balance for clear, hydrated skin. Features the Triplex Aqua System which locks, absorbs, and stores moisture energy for 24 hour hydration.
Hmm, now that sounds interesting. Another new thing for me to try!

Skinfood My Short Cake Liquid Eyeliner- A black liquid liner. This is also a full size item. I really want to open this and try it but I've already got a liquid one I'm using and I don't want this one to dry out in the meantime. I know they like to do that.
Value: $4
Holika Holika Juicy Mask Sheet in Aloe- Not my favorite  mask but I know I'm picky. Holika Holika is a brand with super cute packaging and some good skincare.
Value: $2

Then there are a couple samples of Missha Time Revolution Cream, Etude House Collagen Moistfull cream and Nature Republic Super Origin CC cream (which I'm totally trying).

VERDICT: I'm very happy with this inaugural Meikoko BCDation box. The value is around $25 which, while not spectacular, is something I've come to expect with boxes containing imported goods. Plus this is a new, small company embarking on a new subscription box adventure. I'm very satisfied with this first box. It worked out that the Skinfood BB cream worked so well for me. I don't think I would have loved the box as much if that hadn't happened. But it does make me curious about how they will accommodate skin tones/colors in these boxes. I can't remember if when I signed up it asked me or not. My big problem is that 99 out of 100 BB creams are too dark for me.

So, I'm staying subscribed because this is pretty fun. And I'm interested to see how the second box will vary from the first.

If you want to sign up, head to and get your name in. I believe you'll start with the June box and they ship on the 15th of the month.

Skoshbox Sample Box and DEKABox Japanese Snack Review and Giveaway!

I'm really excited to be sharing Skoshbox with you! Skoshbox is a subscription that sends Japanese snacks to your door every month. And I'm not going to lie... Of all the international snacks, Japan has the best (in my opinion). They really go all out with some of their candies.

Skoshbox has two sizes: Skosh (little) and Deka (big). The Skoshbox is packed with sample size snacks and the DEKAbox has full size snacks. You'll always get 8-11 snacks in each box. The DEKAbox includes a different assortment of larger items and DIY kits and you can pay an extra $2 to get an accessory added to your box! Omg... It's like Skoshbox has the key to my heart!

This review is going to be a little long because it's for BOTH boxes so you'll get the best idea of which one you can't live without. THEN hang on to the very end because Skoshbox is giving away one of these exact DEKAboxes to one of you lucky readers!! Yes! So... read on, of course.

The Cost: $12/month for Skoshbox, DEKAbox is $24/month

What You Get: Japanese snacks and candies!

Dottiebox is an interesting box. They send handmade items, products from small businesses or indie goodies. You really never know what might pop up in a box. So, of course, I had to try it. I got the Dottiebox Mini. They also have a regular Dottiebox, as well.
The Mini contains typically three items and the regular box contains four. They do seem to count coupons as an item but I do not if they require a purchase.

The Cost: $13/month for Dottiebox Mini, $20/month for Dottibox

What You Get: Receive a curated monthly box with lovely handmade products, coupons, and items from small businesses and indie brands.

Beauteque May 2015 Head to Toe Bag Review ~ Lip Essentials

Beauteque is a website based in the US that deals with all things Asian beauty. They some of my favorite brands like Skinfood, Mizon and Etude House. They also have a great program in their Head to Toe Bags. Each month, they curate a new bag packed with Asian beauty products all based on a central theme. The theme this month is "Lip Essentials."

Beauteque also has a monthly subscription (BB Bag) which you can access at BeautequeMonthly but the bags are not the same. This review is for the Head to Toe Bag which is completely separate and is a one time purchase. The products do not overlap, so if you are already getting the BB Bag, you can purchase a Head to Toe bag any month you choose without worries of duplicates.
This month everything arrived in a silver and black flowered zip pouch. I think all the Bags (both Head to Toe and BB Bags) come with a makeup bag every time. Hence the name "Bag" instead of "box" I suppose.

The Cost: $26 plus $2 shipping (US)

What You Get: Seven full size, Asian beauty products and a makeup pouch. This month is all about Lips.

Popsugar Must Have May 2015 Box Review and Coupon Codes!

The Popsugar Must Have box is probably number one on my list of favorite subscription boxes. This May 2015 box has such a mix of things that there is sure to be something for everyone. I like it because it's not a beauty box. It's what is known as a "lifestyle" box. You can receive jewelry, housewares, snacks, accessories, beauty products... pretty much anything and that's why this box is so much fun.
My boxes have always been perfectly packed and each box comes with an information card describing everything they've included and why. These boxes are like Christmas every month for me.

The Cost: $39.95/month

What You Get: Full size, premium products dealing with Home, Fashion, Fitness, Beauty and Food!

It's Here! Scentbird Officially Releases the PINK Case! Plus Coupon Code

Scentbird pink case and coupon code
Scentbird has finally released their Pink Case! You can buy it now by adding it to your subscription from the top tab "Extra Cases and More." It's a whopping $12.95 which surprises me and it doesn't come with a perfume. But still, this is your chance!

Here's a picture of mine next to the black one:

Wet Shave Club Ladies Box Review!

Wet Shave Club is a pretty awesome subscription for men. They send a heavy duty shaver in the first box and then all sorts of fun, interesting and scented awesomeness for the perfect shave in each subsequent box. I think they felt bad for leaving the ladies out so now we have our own box.
Now, here's the thing. A wet shave is really for men and their faces and is probably best done by a barber while you're relaxing in a chair. But it can be done at home, my husband does it and loves the super close shave it gives. But when he is in a rush, the ole Schick 5 blade comes out. Wet shaving takes time. I'm sure with practice it gets easier but I'm not sure that it would get a whole lot faster.

The Cost: $29/month

What You Get: In your first box from Wet Shave Club you will receive a premium razor with a specially grooved handle for maximum grip, a brush for building a thick lather with your soap, a luxurious shaving soap (scents and brands vary), ten blades from our current selection, an awesome lotion to keep your skin smooth and fresh, and some instructional cards to help with the process.
The Ladies Box arrives with a Wet Shave Club Pink Shaver which I love. I love that it's pink and I love the construction. This is not flimsy. This is a heavy duty chunk of metal. It also arrives with the requisite razor blades. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little terrified about this. Lucky me, I'm just shaving my legs and not my face! And seriously, I would not shave anywhere else. I want to be able to see exactly what that blade is doing. I don't need anything sliced to ribbons. Ever. Anywhere. That is the goal.
The only sad thing is that there is no leather cover! The mens box comes with one... I think I'll email them and ask because it NEEDS a cover.
Value: $29.99

Besides the super awesome shaver (and blades), there is a very nice Satin Tip Shaving Brush.  Ultra soft ends, but firm enough core bristles to make a great lather. These brushes rival and yield better results than most badger hair versions. The handles are made with a low slip rubberized coating these handles which is handy.
This is synthetic but it should still be wet under hot water then squeezed out to get the bristles soft and to prepare it for creating the shaving lather of your dreams.
Value: $29.99
Wet Shave Club has included some Stirling Soap Co. shaving soap pucks in Black Cherry and Strawberry Bubbly. Personally this Cherry Almond one smells so good I'd like to eat it but whatever. Maybe it'll make my legs smell just as good.

I think normally the puck gets dropped inside a shaving mug and left there. Maybe I have a mug that will do that. Surely one of my Starbucks mugs will work. Anyway, drop your puck in there then add a little water and swirl your shaving brush in a circle. Add water a little at a time until you get a nice lather. Or you can just use your favorite shaving cream. Personally this Cherry Almond one smells so good I'd like to eat it but whatever. Maybe it'll make my legs smell just as good.

Whoos Soap Strawberry Citrus Body Frosting- This smells amazing and is, of course, for your shiny legs after you've shaved them up. Hopefully with no nicks. Urgh. I'm terrified by the thought but I'm going to do it. So you'll have the smoothest, sleekest, most moisturized legs of anyone you know after you've done all these steps!

VERDICT: I really like the idea of a Ladies box. However I think it should probably just be a one time box not a subscription. Mainly because we don't have shave that often. Or maybe I just don't. I mean, men have to shave every day but I'll never have to shave my legs every day! I'm not super hairy to begin with though and once a week totally suffices during the summer. In the winter? Hahahahahahahaha! Unless I have to wear a dress for some reason.

So yeah, totally get the first box if you think this would be fun. It's the only box with the razor and brush so you mainly just want the first one anyway and in that respect it's worth it. I think it's funny that the blade is pink but I'm glad it is. Its a little adventure!

Sign up here and get your own Wet Shave Club box! When you get to the site, they'll ask you to put your email address in (it's a popup) and they'll give you a $5 off coupon. Do it!

If you're a man and you're reading this and you are totally jealous of the awesomeness of this wet shave box, you can ALSO get a Wet Shave Club subscription (with a silver razor that has a leather cover) and it will be even more awesome. You'll get aftershave instead of Strawberry lotion, too. Lucky.

Alright! I did it! My first wet shave! I shaved my legs and they are now silky smooth and hair free.

My thoughts are these:

That pink handle may be cute but it is way too slippery. My husbands has a grippy handle and that's what this should have. Shaving an expanse of skin like legs, there's plenty of room to slip and it's kind of a reach- you *must* be able to hold on to that thing so it doesn't slice and dice. So I'm going to wrap it in duct tape or something.

The lead up takes more time than the actual shave. Okay, not really but percentage wise, I spent a bunch of time making lather with my Strawberry Bubbly puck. It's definitely possible it's just the soap or that I did it wrong (not enough water, maybe) but I can perfect my process and hopefully cut back on the time it takes.

This is a remarkable shave. No razor burn, super close and so smooth. This is the way I would do it for an event, a date or a long day in the sun. Perfection.

So while it takes a little more time and you really shouldn't rush it anyway (hey, razor blade!), your legs will be irresistibly touchable.
