Birchbox Man May 2015 "Comeback Story" Review and Coupon Code

The May 2015 Birchbox Man made me happier than the last one I got but it still didn't thrill me. I don't know why I'm surprised because it's kinda the same way with the regular girly Birchbox. In any case, since this was my second  month, I was able to customize my box by choosing the main item.

Birchbox Man is $20 because in order to get a man to subscribe, you have to offer something of substance. While women can be happy with a plethora of (cheap) beauty products, men need a logical reason to indulge. Or at least that's what my husband says. So really, it's pretty brilliant of them but it also means the price is higher because you actually have to include something a man will want.

Last time it was underwear. I didn't get to customize my first one otherwise I wouldn't pick something so pedestrian. It's like getting white tshirts in your stocking at Christmas. Kiiind of a letdown even if they are useful.

This time I did NOT get underwear!

Quirky Contort Power- This is a multi-use adaptor with both USB ports and a power plug. It's also kinked to the side so you can still use the other plug in your outlet. It also has a way to wrap up your cords if you think you need to travel with something like this. The downside is that it lights up.
So I've been needing something like this (and my husband thought this box was for him.... aaaaaahahahahahahaha!!) next to my bed so that I can plug my kindle, phone and Galaxy Note 10.1 (you know... Samsung's Ipad) and charge them all at the same time. Currently that's tough because they all use a micro USB but I didn't have enough plugs so I was always swapping them out. Not anymore! Magic.  Except for the fact that it glows in the dark. Who does that?! Luckily it's plugged behind our bed so it's not too big a deal but still.
Value: $24.99
English Laundry 3-in-1 Shampoo Conditioner and Body Wash- This is a good size! And it smells amazing! Unfortunately the packaging is terribly cheap and when I popped the cap the entire thing ripped off.  Not too efficient. It'll still get used, of course.

Billy Jealousy Slush Fund Styling Mud- My husband sneered at this and asked what he was supposed to do with something called "styling mud." I gave him the evil eye and said the same thing you do with all the other crap you put in your hair. Seriously. He uses all sorts of hair crap (pomade, hair wax, etc etc) and just because something has a brand name like Billy Jealousy he gets all weird. I think it's hilarious that someone with hair less than an inch long needs not only pomade but hair spray! My hairspray. My good hairspray that costs $20 a can. When I discovered he was doing that I went and bought him a huge can of Aquanet. He loves it. :D And I'm happy because he leaves my "sissy stuff" alone now.

Cotz Sunscreen- The card actually says this is Supergoop but obviously it's not. And this is the tiniest sample in the universe. I mean... my husband has a big face and this tiny tube is barely going to do any good.

VERDICT: I'm still not sure what I think about Birchbox Man. The samples have been really small, although they are the same size as what comes in a regular Birchbox. But there's only three samples and then the one big item. And it's $20. It's not that it isn't a good deal... Or maybe it isn't. Now I have to think. I really liked the Quirky thing and it's worth $5 more than the box. I don't know. I just wish there was at least one more sample. My husband doesn't care but he also isn't a small sample type of user so this box doesn't really work for him. It has been fun to try it and get an idea of what it's like, though.
Birchbox Man has one more chance! I'm going to get at least one more box because it's said that you really need three months of a subscription to get a good feel for it.

If you want to sign up for Birchbox or Birchbox Man, you can do that here. Make sure to use code BBJETBLUE10 when you check out. That will give you $10 in points to spend. They have a really good points program which earns you money for taking small surveys regarding the products you received. You can then spend that money in their very extensive shop. :)

  1. I can't get my boyfriend to try using ANY hair products! I'm hoping that Birchbox Man will introduce him to some good ones, though.

    1. I think it just depends on the guy. I mean, I suppose I'm lucky my husband cares about his hair. But I'm secretly glad he's not the type to pat on undereye cream. Probably because it would mean he was stealing mine...

    1. Oh yah! That Quirky has been in use since the day it arrived. So handy. So handy I probably would have paid $25 for it in the first place if Id known/thought about it.

  3. The first thing I thought when I saw the plug thing was "I want that!" They should offer add-ons like that for the women's box.
