1Up Box June 2015 "Arcade" Review and Coupon Code

The June 2015 1Up Box has a theme of "Arcade." When I was younger, there used to be an actual arcade at the mall close to my house. It was dark and always full of boys shooting lasers, plunking quarters and shouting in victory or despair. That was before the Xbox. Now you can do all that stuff at home. Except not with quarters. I used to go in to play Pinball and get caught up watching people playing "Duck Hunt."
I loved last months 1Up Box and was thrilled about Junes theme so I was pretty excited about this. I have to admit that part of my love for old video games is thanks to my dad. Before computers were big (meaning before most people could even afford to have them in their home), he got one from work. A Commodore 64. Yes. I'm old, we used floppy disks and had to learn DOS. However, playing games like Wolfenstein and Doom really made me happy. The funniest thing now, when I think back, is that I remember my mom telling my dad to turn off the computer and come to bed because he would be up so late playing games. Gamer life, way back then.

The Cost: $18.92/month (including shipping)

What You Get: $40+ Value of awesome stuff in each box. Every month features a new collection with an exclusive EPIC Shirt!

Fight Fight Revolution T-shirt- Shockingly, I've never played Dance Dance Revolution but my husband is apparently a pro. That's according to him AND his brother so I guess it's true. All I have to say is that if they haven't made a Fight Fight Revolution, they need to. Using the Kinect, it seems like it would be super easy to do. :D
Value: $14.99
Street Fighter Bobble Budds- There were 8 of these so you could technically collect them all if you know enough people who don't want theirs. These are really light and plastic. And everything pops off.

Pac-Man Candy Tin- So this looks just like the old arcade game. It managed to foil my attempts to get it open for quite awhile. However, I buckled down and finally figured out that all I needed to do was pop off the bottom. Sadly, it doesn't pop these out like rejected quarters. I really wanted it to.
Value: $3?
Metallic Arcade Decal- I'm just gonna call this a puffy sticker. Since the whole box is basically 80's and early 90's, it's a puffy sticker. Did anyone else collect stickers like I did? It was like THE thing to do when I was eleven years old. You don't even know how hard those other girls wanted my McDonalds Grimace puffy sticker. Srsly. I still remember it, that's how hard I didn't trade it.

Marvel Spider-Man Zipper Pull- Apparently there was a Spiderman arcade game. I was actually going to scoff but then I managed to dredge up a memory of actually playing it. In any case, this is... well, I'm curious to know what the average age of subscribers are for this box. I mean, I was assuming it would be somewhere late twenties, early thirties but I could be wrong. I'm just saying that unless it's 12 year olds, a Spiderman zipper pull is a little... babyish.
Value: $3

Space Alien Lanyard- If I worked at Boeing or some other company that made you carry a card around to get in and out of doors, I would TOTALLY use this. Unfortunately, I don't. And my husband has a one that hooks to his belt. Darn.
Value: $6

VERDICT: While I love 1Up Box and reminiscing, this was not the most awesome of their boxes. I accept the fact that most geek boxes tend to have filler but this one was mostly t-shirt. Luckily the t-shirt is pretty coo so it makes the box worth it. The other stuff will be passed along to my 7 year old nephew. He'll love it all.

If you would like to sign up for 1Up Box, you can do that right here. Use code AWESOME to get $3 off your first box.
