Bespoke Post June 2015 “Frontier” Review and Coupon Code

Bespoke Post is one of the best men’s subscriptions out there. They send high quality, well thought out boxes packed with themes in mind. These are not mystery boxes. You’ll know exactly what you’ll be receiving since you get the choose which box you get.
Each month Bespoke Post releases a few new boxes and chooses one for you based on your profile. Between the first and the fifth of the month, you will have the opportunity to either keep what they have chosen or pick a different box that suits you better.

I have been consistently impressed with the quality and value of our Bespoke Post boxes. They don’t send cheap doodads or filler. They send real, unique items to enhance your manliness. Holding a big knife will do that, you know.

The Cost: $45/month

What You Get: Undeniably high quality, unique items themed and curated for men’s interests of all types, anything from Life, Food, Drink and Style categories.
Opinel No. 8 Pocket Knife– These knives have been made in France for over a hundred years. I think they know what they’re doing. The 3.25″ blade is made of high carbon stainless steel (12c27 Sandvik). That means it will hold a sharp edge for a long time but shouldn’t be used as a prybar.

Inox signifies the blade is stainless in French. This reasonably priced knife also has a patented safety mechanism called Virobloc. It prevents the knife from opening or closing when you don’t want it to. Just twist the silver neckband to lock. The handle is oak and the contouring feels very natural when gripped.
Value: $18.95

Kaweco Sport Fountain Pen and Cartridges– While my husband wanted this box for the knife (and the bottle opener), I wanted it for the journal and the fountain pen. Kaweco is probably middle of the road, quality and pricewise. You can get some pretty crazily priced fountain pens, I learned. Since I used to do calligraphy, I thought a fountain pen would be pretty fun. And it is.
This pen is the “sport” version which  means it closes up small but also needs the cap on the opposite end when opened in order to make writing easier. I found the pen easy to load and ink started flowing immediately. At first, while writing it skipped but with more use, that issue went away.
This isn’t the thing for fast writing like note-taking. Fountain pens need a little care and precision. There’s a reason ballpoint pens are more popular than fountain pens. But if you want something to look good, like a signature on a document, this is official.
Included with the pen are 6 blue ink cartridges. That’s a lot of writing!
Value: $30

Poppin Medium Soft Cover Notebook– This bendy notebook has 192 lined pages and a pocket in the back. It also has a elastic band to keep the pages together and/or everything from falling out that you’ve stuffed in there. While I don’t know that I would use my fountain pen with this notebook, it will definitely be used for something. Probably subscription box related. Hah.
Value: $9

Machine Era Godwin Bottle Opener– This thing is heavy-duty. And I do mean heavy. It weighs so much that you better not attach it to your car keys or it will drag them right out of the ignition. Each bottle opener has been machined within a 0.005 of an inch tolerance from cold formed steel. The finish is a gun barrel black patina. It also has the most perfectly angled and sharp bottle opener notch. This thing is going to last forever.
Value: $19

VERDICT: To me, this box seems pretty eclectic. I think the idea was that you would go out into the woods with your knife and contemplate the universe. While contemplating, you would write out your deep thoughts with your fountain pen in your new notebook and sip on a freshly opened beer. I don’t see that actually happening however the box contents worked since between us we wanted all the things in it.
I still am very happy with Bespoke Post, their boxes and the quality of the items in them. This box has a value of roughly $80 and I paid $45 for it. Since everything in it is useful to us, this is a great deal.

The wonderful thing about Bespoke Post is that you get to choose what you want. If nothing appeals to you that month, you can skip. I wish all subscriptions were like that. 🙂
