Mishibox June 2015 Korean Beauty Subscription Box Review

The June 2015 Mishibox is the very first Mishibox! This box is geared toward sending you the best and most fun Korean beauty products. If the first box is any indication of the things to come, this subscription is going stellar. Not only are the products fun, useful and interesting but the presentation is top notch. Each box has an information card to let you know what’s in your box and how to use it, along with tips and notes about your subscription.

Mishibox is based in the US and is currently only shipping to the US as well. However, if you are international and you really want this box to ship to your country, get on the International Waitlist right here. Hopefully, if they get enough interest, they’ll open up shipping to your country.

One fabulous thing about Mishibox (besides the contents of the box) is the fact they they provide English ingredient lists for all the products in the box on their website! This is HUGE, people! It’s something that no one else does (even Memebox, although they promised they would) and it is SO valuable to me. I love being able to find out whats in my products so easily.

The Cost: $18.95/month

What You Get: A curated box with a combination of 4 – 6 deluxe-sized samples and full-sized Korean beauty products from a wide range of Korean brands.

Holika Holika Aloe 99% Soothing Gel– Normally, every year I buy a new bottle of aloe. I managed to dodge having to do that this year, and this product is the reason why! Honestly, aloe is so amazing it shouldn’t be consigned only to the summer months. It’s soothing with it’s anti-inflammatory properties but it also has anti-bacterial properties along with being a super moisturizer.
This is a huge 250ml, full size bottle, too. So it will last me a long time.
Value: $12

Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Masks– I have many of these cotton sheet masks, that’s how much I like them. The ingredients are good and include snail secretion filtrate, EGF, bee venom, aloe and arbutin. I’m always happy to have another one of these. In the summer, you can keep your masks in the refrigerator to soothe hot, sun-warmed skin. In the winter, you can drop your unopened mask packet into warm water before you slap it on your skin. I like masks at any time of the year– Aloe infused ones in the summer and super moisturizing ones in the winter.
Value: $3

Benton Honest Cleansing Foam– It’s no secret that I love Benton. Especially their Snail Bee line. This product and line is new to me and after seeing the ingredients, it looks pretty good. Unfortunately, I’m watching my cleansers pH levels and this is around 10 so I won’t use it on my face. It smells fairly floral and did not even budge the eyeliner swatch that I did on my hand. Technically, that’s what the oil cleanser step is for but I don’t always do both. I’m happy I was able to sample this in Mishibox because the ingredients look good and it’s something I would possibly buy. Now I know I don’t need to.

Value: Deluxe Sample

Banila Co. Clean It Zero– This is a deluxe sample of one of the most popular cleansing oil balms on the market right now. In your kbeauty skincare regimen, an oil based cleanser is used first to get rid of the day’s makeup. This is a balm so it’s solid until you start massaging it into your skin where it melts as it heats up. I’ve tried this and I think the best part is the fact that it *is* solid to start with. It also smells good and works well. I have found that liquid oils tend to leave my face softer, though, so this particular product is not currently part of my lineup.
Value: Deluxe Sample

Holika Holika Jewel Light Waterproof Eyeliner– Mine is a shimmery brown but it looks like there are several color variations. This is a very creamy, easy-to-apply eyeliner. I really like it especially because I tend to go brown for my eyeliner (though I do tightline with black). This has a pretty subtle shimmer to it and does not budge once it sets so you better get it right. It’s waterproof, too. I swatched it on my hand and the Honest Cleansing Foam didn’t remove a fleck of color. Hard core! I love it when I find good eyeliners.
Value: $8

Skylake Oriental Herb Cool Shampoo– To me, this is the pièce de résistance and it’s not even full size! I know that there tends to be a real trend in kbeauty haircare for “cooling” shampoos and treatments. This is deliciously pepperminty but the true star of this shampoo show is the floating chunk of Wilfordi Root that’s in the bottle! Although in the photo it’s actually sitting in the bottom. Wilfordi root is a traditional Chinese herb that is used to prevent hair loss (among many other things like stomach upset) but it also has anti-inflammatory properties. Together with peppermint, you will have clean hair and a happy, soothed scalp. I am desperate to try this. Tomorrow, for sure. Seriously, did I mention how good it smells yet?
Value: Deluxe Sample

VERDICT: I am very impressed with the curation of this Mishibox. I’m excited to see what the next box brings. This box has two full size products plus a sheet mask and three very nicely sized deluxe samples. The value is definitely there for this Mishibox.
I think the first thing that stood out to me was the inclusion of the Skylake Shampoo. It’s so typically Korean. It’s not one of the brands that are popular like Tony Moly or Etude House but it’s just as good and far more interesting. It has a chunk of plant in it! I’m happy to hear that this is part of what Mishibox plans for future boxes. They should all have one out of the ordinary product. And for me, that’s part of what kbeauty is all about. The unusual. When Memebox was still international, we got lots of those unusual things. Now, though, that’s no longer happening so it’s wonderful to see Mishibox stepping into that gap. Give me all the strange!

If you would like to sign up for Mishibox, head to their website and subscribe! If you do it now, for the July box, you’ll get the promotional rate of $18.95/month for life. If you wait til August, the price is going up to $19.95/month.

It looks like Mishibox will soon have a shop that will sell the full sizes of what is sent in the boxes. That is very handy and since it’s shipping from the US, it’ll be nice not to have it take two weeks to get to me. Depending on how the shampoo treats my hair, I can already tell I’m going to want more.

PLEASE NOTE! If you preordered and got this June box, you are NOT SUBSCRIBED! Even if you received this months box, you will need to subscribe on the site. This is explained on the info card but I really want to make it clear because I don’t want anyone to be sad when they realize the July box isn’t coming. It’s possible you’ll get an email to this effect but one more reminder can’t hurt. 😀

What do you think of this box? Did you get it and love it? Hate it? Am I the only one who adores the shampoo?
