Mishibox July 2015 Korean Beauty Box Review

Mishibox is a beauty box that focuses on Asian beauty products with an emphasis on Korean cosmetics and skincare. They send full and deluxe sized samples to help you discover Korean beauty. If you want a well-curated box sent to your door each month, you might want to check this out.
I can't lie, I've had kind of an obsession with Korean beauty. Mostly I've completely fallen in love with their skincare. So much of it is excellent and at very reasonable prices.

The Cost: $19.95/month.

What You Get: A combination of 4 - 6 carefully curated deluxe-sized samples and full-sized Korean beauty products.

Each box arrives with an information card that explains each item you've received and how to use it. This is essential in a beauty box like this because half the time everything is written in Korean. One of the other wonderful things Mishibox does is makes available the English ingredients for the products on their website.
Confume Argan Gold Hair Pack- Repair your hair and get a healthy scalp. This has coconut and almond oil in it, too, to moisturize everything to shiny perfection. This is also a new brand for me and this seems decent. I hate hair stuff, though. Bleh. :D
Value: $2

Kwailnara Touch Therapy Nose Pack- I love nose packs. They're Korean versions of the Biore nose strips. Except these smell like chocolate! Totally using it. My nose probably needs one, it's been awhile.
Value: $1
Kwailnara Hand Essence- This is a new brand for me and it's really fun to see new brands in a kbeauty box. Not that I have a problem with Etude House and whatnot but I like a little unusual in my boxes. This has three flavors and I received Peach. I'm pretty happy about that because the other ones are Avocado and Blueberry and I'm pretty sure mine smells the best.
Value: $7
It's Skin Macaron Lip Balm- These are super cute and super popular. I have a couple now but the Green Apple is a new flavor for me! You can also get pineapple, strawberry or grape. Plus I love lip balm and this smells amazing. It doesn't taste amazing, though.
Value: $6.99
Missha The Style Lip and Eye Makeup Remover- Get rid of your stubborn eye makeup and leftover lipstick with this. Shake it well, then use a cotton pad to swipe away the possibility of raccoon eyes. This is a full size product, so that's awesome. It'll take me forever to use it all, that's for sure.
Value: $6
MJ Care Essence Sheet Mask- I got the Green Caviar version and this is going in my mask stash for sure. For one, it has no alcohol in it! Yay! It also has aloe and sodium hyaluronate for moisture. It does have witch hazel (which does have alcohol in it) but it's not enough for me to fuss about.
Value: $2

VERDICT: This Mishibox is a well rounded box. The value isn't spectacular but that's pretty normal for imported goods. This box is worth about $25. Part of the fun is getting to try new and different brands. I did see a complaint somewhere that the Kwailnara and Confume were from the same brand (Welcos) but that doesn't bother me. It's the same thing as Amore Pacific being Laneige. Same parent company, different brands. I like how hard Mishibox is working to get us the more unusual things. Thats hard when kbeauty addicts are involved!

You can sign up for Mishibox here on their website!

What do you think of the box? Yay or nay? I admit I'm so overloaded with kbeauty now that it's pretty difficult to come up with things I don't have.

  1. This was my first box and I'm sad to say I'm quite disappointed.

This may apply just to me and a select few, but a good portion of this box has parabens which I'm allergic to. The hand cream was also mediocre at best (though absorbency was awesome - no greasiness) due to the list of ingredients I read. Nothing that stands out from your run of the mill hand lotions either. I also don't need more lip balm, face mask (parabens), nose pack or hair balm. I did get some sort of green tea eye makeup remover though...maybe I'll actually get some use out of that.

Overall this wasn't as great of a box as I had wanted but nothing's perfect, right?

    1. If you're trying to avoid parabens, this probably won't be the box for you. There are some really great natural kbeauty brands but with mixed brand boxes like this, you are definitely going to have a tough time finding value :( It would be so awesome if a kbeauty box came out that represented only natural brands because you definitely aren't the only one trying to avoid things like that.

    2. Probably, le sigh. Are there natural kbeauty boxes? I need to start exploring. It's just sad because i thought this box had so much potential and its price point was just borderline what I would pay to subscribe.

Yeah an all natural kbeauty box would make so much sense - an uncharted territory/niche I would say. I love Innisfree stuff, which this box had with its debut box, but this second box deflated my hopes lol.

    3. There are no natural kbeauty boxes (yet). I wonder if Mishibox might consider offering one like that... :D

  2. Hope they ship to Canada 1 day , really liked Memebox but stop shipping to Canada. So would love these Korean type products.

    1. I think there is a kbeauty box from Canada just getting up and in gear, so your wish for a kbeauty box available to you may come true soon!

  3. I'm creeping on other posts - what is this Canadian kbeauty box magic you have just mentioned???

    1. It is as yet unnamed (as far as I know) but when I get more info, you know I'll be telling everyone :D

  4. I was super disappointed in the box this month. I think it's a good box for kbeauty newbies that want to dip their toes in or just familiarize themselves with some brands, but the MJ Care Sheet Masks are very close to being the cheapest ones you can buy from korean sites, the single pore strip was just bizarre to me, and the argan hair pack was a little boring.

The hand cream is nice and I do agree I like seeing a new brand for the first time in a while, although in terms of performance it does feel a bit cheap. :( The Macaron balm is cute for newer kbeauty-ers, but I feel like I have a lifetime supply of it I've gotten it so many times haha. The only thing I liked a lot was the makeup remover, but that's hardly ground-breaking, either.

Idk...I just felt the overall feel of this box was just...cheap? A little? I have no idea. I haven't really sat with it and figured out my thoughts yet, but I was definitely let down with this one when comparing with last month. I'm hanging around though because I'm at least seeing stuff here that i don't see in every other box- which could be promising!

    1. I think that right now, most kbeauty boxes are going to contain products that seasoned kbeauty lovers will already have. Especially at this price point. I feel like it's all a matter of perspective. It's great to see a new brand, try it and then decide if we like it or not. That's part of the adventure to me. But value will always be subject to to the individual. I think Mishibox is trying really hard to introduce new things and I appreciate it. But do I look back at our Memebox days with some wistfulness? Definitely. I don't think we will ever see the quantity, variety and value like that ever again. I try really hard not to compare against those Memeboxes but it's difficult.

Will boxes like these keep me subscribed? I honestly don't know but it's entirely because my stash is so large.

  5. I think I'm still SO happy that there are now 3 relatively new Korean beauty sub boxes that whatever they send me balances out in the end. Like last month, one sent aloe vera body wash to everyone- but I got a sample of shampoo ( and I have about 3 times the hair it was designed to wash). The other items were very nice, though in all my K- beauty boxes.

I just take it as it comes. We had NOTHING for so long, that I'm loving the surprises every month. 3B, Mishibox and Meikoko are all always worth the price to me. They are very inexpensive compared to many other beauty sub boxes which don't please me nearly so much ( Glossybox I'm looking at you).

Also, I adore and am giddy as a school girl when my Beauteque Mask Maven and BB bags come every month. They are la creme' de la creme' for me, as Beauteque was my first foray into K- skin care. :)

I think that I would support the K- beauty boxes over most other non K- beauty boxes because I really and truly have a need to see and use their products every month.

As a suggestion, I keep one of Beauteque's little purple with gold roses organza bags in my nightstand with various samples and minis from both their and other brands for those nights I forgot to cleanse, tone or moisturize. ( I'm old and sometimes I go to sleep very late at night watching TV- I reach for my skin goody bag on those nights).

I know we are all disappointed by SOME K- skin care in MOST boxes if they are mystery curated boxes.. The foaming skin cleanser is my bete noir because of the usually high pH.
Your " can't use" item may be different, but I think the good far outweighs the occasional unexciting but still useful. :)

    1. You're quite right between Beauteque, the 3B Box, Meikoko BCdation and Mishibox, we are sitting pretty in regards to kbeauty subscriptions. It's true that it's pretty rare for all products in a box to be worth using but I find myself reaching more often for my kbeauty skincare than any of the other brands I receive in my other beauty boxes. I don't use all of it, of course, because like you said, there's always something I can't/won't use.
And then there's the occasional box where you look at it and wonder what someone was thinking when they packed the box. But that's pretty much ever subscription box ever.

I can't wait until more kbeauty boxes arrive on the scene. With even Sephora focusing on kbeauty, I can only hope that more brands will make their products more accessible to beautybox companies in order to get their name out in the US. *dreams of the day*
