OuiPlease Vol. 1.4 Review "Escape to the Riviera" Review and Coupon Code

My OuiPlease Vol 1.4 arrived today. I have been having a hard time justifying this subscription. I signed up for a year back in... February, I think. Since then, they've been having some major issues. It took me nearly three months to get replacements for my damaged and missing items from the last box.
When I signed up for my yearly subscription, it was promised that the boxes would have a $400 value. While I'm not huge on value because a lot of it is just mark-up to hit numbers, getting a box worth half of that didn't really make me too happy. especially coupled with the missing and leaking items.

This box seems much improved in most respects. It's funny because I learn a lot as I write my reviews. I spend some time researching these products and then when I get to the end, sometimes my initial impressions are vastly different than my ending verdict. So we'll see!

The Cost: $150/bi-monthly

What You Get: A unique selection of full sized French products. In addition to all of the hand-selected gifts, your parcel will include the latest issue of our own “Et Voila” magazine. Explore deliciously simple French recipes, exclusive interviews, style tips, lifestyle pieces, and discover the full range of current products that were distributed across America.

OuiPlease is a very expensive box. When I bought it, I got the yearly subscription which comes with a discount and I also used a 20% off coupon so each box is about $87 for me. I mention this so that you can understand what I spent and how it relates to how I feel about the box.
The packaging is stellar. It comes in a gorgeous reusable, hinged box. I use every single one. I cannot bear to throw them away because they are very well made. When you open this box, you will feel like you are receiving a luxurious gift. The box also comes with a mini-mag that describes everything you got (and what other people got, as well) along with some small articles about fashion and French life.
Little Woman Enamel Ring- There are several versions of this ring. Mine is square and slate gray but there were many colors and shapes. These are adjustable (which I don't really like) and are made of melted copper and silver. They're handmade and are stamped on the back with the Little Woman Paris initials. I'm not a big fan of this but it's definitely interesting. Hm...
Value: $45
Graine De Pastel Baume de Cocagne- This is a blue colored body moisturizer made with woad-a blue pigmented plant. It's made with shea butter, cocoa butter and several oils including sunflower. I was afraid it was going to have lavender in it but it doesn't! Yay! This was nearly exploding when I got it. The lid was almost popping off. It might be because of the heat? It looks like it's a whipped body butter, too, and smells very light and faintly floral. OuiPlease lists this as being $50 but it's not.
Value: $33

La Fare en Provence Lavender Flower Jar- Of course I didn't open this. I'm sure my allergies would have had a party if I did. This is the same brand as the foot cream from the last box. I can't find these flower jars but they do ship the rest of their line to the US.
Value: $20 (but I seriously doubt it since their lotions are like $10 max)
Graine De Pastel Hand Cream- It's funny because I played World of Warcraft for ages many years ago and one of the plants you collect for crafting is called woad. It also was used to make blue dye. Who knew you could learn something from a computer game, right? Anyway, this uses glycerin and sunflower oil to give you soft perfect hands.
Value: $14

Soins Soleil Cellu-Guard High Protection SPF30 Sun Sensitive Areas Care-50ml-This is an issue I have with OuiPlease. They send repeats. Granted if it was a repeat of the Hediard caramels, I wouldn't care. But this? I do care. I don't need another one (especially since they sent me two sunscreens already in the same box). Not that this is a bad sunscreen. It's not. It's fine. It's just I already have one.
Value: $45
Doux Me Orange Blossom Mist- A face and body spray with an orange blossom scent. Spray whenever, wherever to refresh and revive. I've become a little hooked on water sprays. They are just so refreshing on hot days and nights.
Value: $21

Pier Auge Body Caresse Agrumes- This is a body moisturizer (another one) with grapefruit essential oils and hyaluronic acid. I rarely use body lotion although I'm thinking I probably need it. I'm looking kinda ashy. :( This better be magic for the price! If you want to buy some Pier Auge on Amazon use code OUIBOX20 for 20% off.
Value: $67
Kingies "life is beautiful" T-Shirt- This is cute! It's a Medium but I won't lie--it's pretty small. It fits but it's quite tight across the chest. I'm probably going to end up wearing it anyway. Although I just realized it's 100% cotton. Hm. If it shrinks there will be no way it will fit. These are made by Stanislas du Parc in Paris. He makes "cheeky" graphic tees.
Value: $35
Confiserie Stanislas Nougat in Macaron- Ooooh. This is so tasty. I mean, it's packed with sugar and other gorgeously bad for you things but I love it! Soft and delicious! I wish there were more. Amazon only has one flavor.
Value: $14

Betchy Sketch Coasters- So... yeah. Not from France. Although one of the co-founders went to school in Paris. They have cute sayings but these are basically paper. Like a sheet of paper. They say these are coasters but if they are, then they're one time use. OuiPlease says these are worth $20 but I don't believe that for two seconds. No. They're so cheap (although cute) they should be free.
Lulu en Provence Ecru Clutch- "Dreamer" This is a thick cotton pouch. It's machine washable and is designed and manufactured in France. The stencils are handpainted. I think this is really fun and a I can't wait to use it. There's no pocket inside but this is well made and the zipper is sturdy. I love the roughness of the fabric.
Value: $30

VERDICT: First, I'm happy that nothing in my box arrived damaged. Because getting replacements was a nightmare last time. This box has a value of $324 by my pricing standards. That's much better than my last one. I'm still not thrilled by the repeat of Sothys and I would have been happier if there were not two body moisturizers. But it's nice to see Pier Auge and I love getting a clutch. I also think it's fun to get a T shirt that no one else will have (except my fellow OuiPlease girls-- and if I ever see you wearing this, I will run over like a crazy person and say hi!).
Is it worth the $87 I paid? Yes. I think it is this time. I was really concerned but this worked out nicely.

If you would like to sign up for OuiPlease, you can do that here. Make sure to use code OUIESCAPE to get 20% off your subscription. It looks like you could get this same "Escape to the Riviera" box but I'm not positive on that. Obviously the best deal is to do the yearly version for 20% off but I don't know if I recommend that quite yet because of the customer service issues.

What did you get in your OuiPlease box? Were you happy with it?

  2. I got pretty much the same thing, though no ring - I got the bracelet with 3 fine strands and the shell. I also got the clutch in the aqua color, which I really love. This box was SO much better than the last. Their pricing is a joke, but I paid $87 too and it was worth that to me, so I am happy.

    1. I was so relieved that it was better this time around. I really do like what OuiPlease is doing but whew! That last box was a misery for me. But you are totally right, for $87 it's worth it. That yearly price with the discount is the way to go.
