Allure Beauty Box August 2015 Review

The Allure Beauty Box has been great since the complete switch over from being Sample Society. This August 2015 Box has six products from some pretty great brands and one thing that I’ve been dying to try!

The Cost: $15/month

What You Get: Five or more deluxe-size beauty samples from a curated mix of skin, hair, and makeup products as well as fragrance.
Malin + Goetz Peppermint Shampoo– Give me ALL the peppermint! I love the scent of mint (peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen, even some menthol) and having hair that smells this good is going to be amazing! It’s also supposed to have cooling properties for your scalp so if you’re overheating, it’s time to get pepperminty in the shower. The mini-mag mentions that guys love it and I know my husband totally would. I might have to hide this. Or just buy a bigger size and share.

Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme– A lightweight styling cream to smooth frizz and boost waves. The mini-mag says it’s too light for those with thick curls or really coarse hair. Since it smells like shaving cream, I’m passing this to my husband. If there’s one thing he loves, it’s hair product. And his hair is barely an inch long. I don’t get it. He uses more hairspray than I do! He’ll like this.
Nuance by Salma Hayek AM/PM Anti-Aging Super Cream– This is a medium-weight moisturizer with a bunch of oils and glycerin. It’s pretty thick and smells… herbalish. Thank goodness it’s not floral. I think it might be a little too strong. It glides on nicely but has a hint of sticky to it. I don’t think I’m going to use it on my face but it’s great for my hands. It has a little tiny bit of retinyl palmitate in it (the last ingredient) and hands need it, too. So I’ll use this as a handcream. It’s a little too strongly fragranced for me to want it on my face.

Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Gel Cleanser– This is the month of gel cleansers, I can tell. This is the third one so far this month! This cleanser is for oily and acne prone skin and foams up like nobody’s business. you just need a tiny amount and it foams up enough for your whole face. I’m not really oily or acne prone but I still want to use this! I wonder what the pH is, though.
Butter London in Violets Revenge– This is one of seven collaboration colors that Butter London did with Allure. Only two are in the Beauty Boxes, this electric violet one and a dusty mauve called The Sweet Spot. This is a mini and I personally prefer that size because I’ve barely ever hit the bottom of a polish.
Value: $7

Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner– Fiiinaaalllyyy!! Yaaaasss! I’ve been wanting to try this forever! It’s a click pen that delivers black gel eyeliner through a slit in a rubbery angled tip. So weird. Anyway, the sample is not a click pen so I just squeezed the rubbery part until the gel came out the end. It definitely doesn’t move once it’s on. I had a little painting party and gave myself some enormous cat eyes because I have bad aim. Whoops. Oh, well, still fun!

VERDICT: I was worried about the switch but those fears were unfounded. These purely Allure boxes have been very good. Getting six great brands and sizes is really nice for $15. If anything, I’d say the boxes are even better than before. I like how this particular box had a little of everything, as well. I think my least favorite thing was the Avene gel and my most favorite… The Butter London polish or the Peppermint shampoo.

What was your favorite thing?

If you didn’t get this box and you want to sign up for the Allure Beauty Box, you can do that right here! It’s possible you might get the August box but I think you’ll start with September. Since the Allure program is so new, I’m not positive on how it works yet and the website just says you’ll start with the “first available box.” It’s worth a try if you really want this one, though.
