Beauteque’s Mask Maven Subscription Box Review

Beauteque’s Mask Maven August 2015 has a plethora of sheet masks, a yogurt mask and a set of peeling gels. This isn’t my favorite Mask Maven but it does have redeeming factors. Namely, the inclusion of a new-to-me brand of sheet mask! Even better, they have no alcohol which can be a problem, especially since my skin has been doing so well since I started eliminated products containing alcohol. I already have dry skin, it doesn’t need to be dried any further.
The Cost: $15 plus shipping, varies depending on country of residence.

What You Get: Each month you will receive nine to eleven masks of any type or combination, including sheet masks, wash off masks, body masks, foot masks, hair masks, nail masks… you get the idea.

SNP Troubled Skin Care Essence Sheet Mask– This mask will soothe and hydrate your skin. It has several plant extracts including licorice root. No alcohol so I’ll be using it! I like SNP, too.
Ingredients: purified water, glycerin, polysorbate80, hydroxyethylcellulose, carbomer, triethanolamin, disodium EDTA, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Leaf Extract, chitosan, Phytosphingosine, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Allantoin, aroma

Hanaka Marigold Oil Control Sheet Mask– Hanaka is a Taiwanese brand (like My Beauty Diary). I actually like this brand because they don’t use alcohol and they do tend to have better than average ingredients. For those who are sensitive, they do have parabens.

Esfolio Volcanic Water Essence Mask– So, imagine my disappointment when this mask was as white as can be. If there is any ash in it, it’s so little that you can’t even see it. Uh, and imagine my unhappiness when I googled and discovered it has ginseng in it. I ripped this off my face so fast. Too late. Yep. The next morning I woke up with a very unhappy face and I’m still dealing with the breakout aftermath. I guess that seals ginseng’s doom in regards to my skincare.

Beauty Friends II Green Tea Sheet Mask– Yay! A new brand! And it’s a brand that doesn’t use alcohol and *does* use sodium hyaluronate! That’s a hydration party in the making and I’m all over that. These are super cheap, too. It’s one of the things I love about kbeauty. Good ingredients aren’t always expensive!

Beauty Friends II Kiwi Sheet Mask– Another from the same brand but with Kiwi instead of Green Tea.

Face Q Luffa Oil Control Sheet Mask– Luffa essence is extracted via a patented low-temperature technique. It contains generous amounts of nutrients and moisture, the cool essence of the luffa is able to effortlessly calm down the skin temperatures within 20 minutes of use. Replenishes moisture lost to sun exposure, comforting the skin. Skin feels refreshed and moisturized after use.
Huh. And I always though luffa was a sponge thing/exfoliator/whatever. I can’t find much info about this brand but the ingredients are fine.

PureDerm Strawberry Yogurt Mask Pack- I’ve used the Kiwi version of these. Honestly, I don’t think they do much but they are fun and they do smell good. Slap it on, wait, then wash it off. Voila! Done!

My Beauty Diary Citrus Firming Aroma Mask– This mask contains plant essences from Hamamelis virginiana, Lemon and Grapefruit which regulate the sebum and hydration level of the skin, reducing the oily appearance of the skin and keeping it clean and clear. No alcohol! I haven’t been putting citrus extracts on my skin because I read they can be irritating to sensitive skins. I think I’m going to use this as a test. Since there’s no alcohol in it, if I do have a reaction, it’ll be because of the citrus. Testing, testing, 123.

PureDerm Deep Cleansing Peeling Gel– Peeling gels are so common in kbeauty. Over here it seems like a peeling gel is super expensive and tries to convince you that you’re peeling off dead skin. Uh, no. All those little peely balls are the product itself. If you want a real peel, acid must be involved. However! That is not to say that this cannot clean your face and get gunk out of your pores. It can. Plus it’s fun so use it! So don’t worry about the word “peel.”

VERDICT: At first I was a little bummed because of the foil packets but I did get introduced to a new brand and the majority of these masks are remarkably alcohol free. I would have liked to see one more mask, preferably one for the feet, especially because of the foils. The value is a little low because of them as well. I still think that this subscription is a lot of fun. Sheet masks are a great way to keep hydrated and in Summer especially, they are so soothing.

Beauteque tends to do a great job finding good sheet masks. I find it strange that they don’t carry the ones they send in Mask Maven in their shop. Hopefully they’ll fix that one day so I can re-buy the ones I like easily. They do have a ridiculously good stock of My Beauty Diary Masks, though.

If you would like a monthly shipment of masks sent to your door, you can sign up for Mask Maven right here. They also have a BB Bag which sends Asian beauty and cosmetics, as well. 😀
