BeautyFix by Dermstore September 2015 Subscription Box Review and 50% Off Offer

BeautyFix is a beauty subscription box by Dermstore. It's really an excellent box if you like skincare and higher end, spa quality products. They tend to have a nice mix of full size and deluxe samples every month. I like them because I really enjoy getting good skincare and they really send some fantastic things. Products I won't buy because they're too expensive.
This month the box has a focus on French and Italian skincare. Not everything in the box adheres to this theme but there are some great goodies in here. Basically, it's results-driven skincare. Whee!

The Cost: $24.95/month.

What You Get: Each month, we'll be offering a different BeautyFIX box, featuring full- and travel-size of the latest and greatest products in skin care, hair care and makeup, worth at least $100.

L'Occitane Extra-Gentle Soap in Verbena- Shea butter soap! This smells so good I want to leave it by my bed as a little air freshener. I am overflowing with soap right now but I'm keeping this. I like their soap and hand cream.
Value: $2

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Peach- I have a different color of this lip and cheek stain and I really like it. This is waaaay too orangey for me and my pink undertones.
Value: Sample

Raw Spirit Summer Rain Eau de Parfum- This is definitely a unisex scent. It's not my style but I want my husband to wear it because it smells manly to me. It's a fresh, invigorating scent with a base of vetiver and cedarwood.
Value: Sample
Skinceuticals Phloretin CF- Since I had no idea what Phlorentin was, I had to look it up. It's an antioxidant from apples. Paula's Choice Beautypedia has good things to say about Skinceuticals and rates many of their products very highly. This one, however, isn't highly rated because of one thing. Alcohol. This product contains a high percentage of alcohol and since I'm avoiding that on my face with good results, I don't think I'll be using it. Otherwise, I'd be all over it!
Value: Sample

SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair-  "Designed to repair, nourish and protect the delicate skin surrounding the eyes, its rich texture supplies plumping moisture with hyaluronic acid in order to diminish dehydration lines and increase radiance and brightness. Vitamins A, C and E provide antioxidant protection as they condition the skin and help to lighten dark under eye circles. Peptides and TNS awaken and brighten the eye area, helping to preserve a youthful appearance."
This product has all the right things in it and I'm totally going to use it. I like most products that SkinMedica has but the prices are prohibitive. I can get something just as good for way less. But that doesn't mean that I don't want all the deluxe samples! Plus, for an eye cream, this is the perfect size for me.
Value: Sample

Avene Retrinal 0.1 Intensive Cream- Give me all the retinol. But in small doses so my skin doesn't freak out, please. I've been using Neutrogena's highly rated Night cream and SkinMedica .25% Retinol Cream. I think the Neutrogena is a stronger dose because I cannot use it more than twice a week without my skin getting unhappy. So it's mainly the .25% SkinMedica that has been going on at night. Since retinol is the only scientifically proven (without bias) way to keep wrinkles at bay, you bet I wish I had started when I was 30. Or 25. So I'll use this for sure.
Value: Sample
Dr. Brandt Flexitone BB Cream- I was so excited to see this! I love BB creams and I liked the whole "Flexitone" idea. Until I tried it. This is outrageously orange. Or at least it turned orange on me. Like seriously, fake tan orange. It did not "flexi" into my skintone. No. I'm pretty fair so I'm probably outside the target for this product/color. It also made it so I could see every single one of my wrinkles. And I don't even have a lot of wrinkles!! *toss*
Value: $39

NIA 24 Sunscreen SPF 30- I was considering swapping this until I read the glowing reviews. I garden a lot so sunscreen is important but I have so much! This has some great anti-aging ingredients including ceramides, antioxidants and vitamin E. So I'm going to have to use it. I've got a lot of gardening projects coming up now that the weather has cooled down a bit and it's safe to move plants around.
Value: $20
Nick Chavez Starlet Shine Spray- I want shiny hair! I also need a trim. My split ends are out of control. While this won't help my split ends, it can help with shininess. I tend to chuck most hair products but now that I've got so many from my boxes, I'm actually starting to use them and see their benefits. I want a "glass-like sheen" to my hair!
Value: $19

Sanitas Skincare Lemon Cream Scrub- This smells amazing. I haven't even opened it and it's making me drool. Here's the thing. Lemon oil really shouldn't be put on your face. It's a known irritant. Yet because it smells good or because people think citrus means vitamin C, they get excited about it. It's the same with lavender oil (which I'm allergic to anyway). They just shouldn't be in skincare because of the irritant factor. While I avoid lavender for more reasons, I'm trying to help my skin by eliminating ingredients like alcohol and other known irritants. It's not a hard and fast rule for me because sometimes the benefits outweigh the downsides. I want to use this! But I don't neeeeeeed to because what I'm using now is working. But it smells wonderful. If you don't have sensitive skin, go for it!
Value: $10

VERDICT: At first, I thought there was too many tiny samples. Now that I've explored each product, I'm really happy with this box. So much skincare goodness. I'm disappointed the Dr. Brandt product when so crazy orange on me. It did even out my skintone but... orange is not my color. I'll be using everything except that, the Sanitas Lemon Scrub and the phlorentin CF.
The large majority of the value of this box is in the Dr. Brandt, Nick Chavez and the Nia sunscreen. I'm happy with what I received but sometimes I forget I paid $27 for this. I try to be objective, looking at the box. Would I have paid $4 each for the items I'll be using? Yes, actually. I would. So I feel that this box was worth it to me, especially for the brands. :D

If you would like to sign up for BeautyFix, you can get this exact box until they sell out. Sign up here! If you're a new subscriber, you can get your first box for 50% off! Yep. That makes your first box $12.48! Totes worth it!

What do you think of this months BeautyFix? I'm so disappointed that Dr. Brandt didn't work for me!

  1. I love this box but I tried the Nick Chavez shine spray the other day and HATED the smell. I'll admit I can be picky about scents but I recommend starting with less first… It was awful and wouldn't go away - I had to wear my hair in a ponytail to survive the day.

    1. Well, that is definitely an issue. Who wants stinky hair!?! Not me!
