Boxycharm September 2015 Review ~ Runway Ready!

Boxycharm made it on my top ten list because of it's great makeup and full size products. This month is a testament to it's awesomeness, both in brands, quality and variety. Although I admit to grimacing over one of the brands. Boxy does include some lesser known brands but their connections with Tarte are not to be dismissed.

The Cost: $21/month

What You Get:Full size and luxury size beauty samples of the best beauty products from popular and chic brands. Anything from nail care and hair products to the top skin care and cosmetics.

Previse Skincare Hydromilk Hydrating Lotion- Previse has been in Boxycharm before. A past box had one of their serums in it. I've been using it daily and am pleased with the quality and ingredients. Not so much that I would buy it at full price but enough that I will use it til every last drop is gone. This hydrating lotion is full of antioxidants and has green tea extracts, cocoa butter and sodium hyaluronate in it. I used it this morning and thought it did a great job of hydrating and softening my skin. There is lavender in it, unfortunately, but it's not enough to set off my allegies. Thank goodness.
Value: $48
Scratch Nail Wraps- These things are so popular these days! I can't ever get them to work without at least one looking wonky. And these aren't really cute either... :\
Value: $12

Vasanti Professional Foundation Brush- This is specially shaped to create a flawless and natural looking foundation application. I've been trying a bunch of ways of applying my foundation to see which I like best. So far a stipple brush has been my favorite. But I'm getting one of Honest Beauty's new foundations and I'll start with this brush when it arrives to see how I like it.
Value: $32
Tarte SmoulderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner- It said colors vary and I got brown. I'm actually happy with that because I'm all about anything but black at this point. It has a built in smudger, too. I kind of want to wash my face off and start all over with these Boxycharm goodies.
Value: $22
Kardashian Beauty Black Seed Dry Oil- This is a silicon based hair oil fronted by the Kardashian sisters. I have an immediate aversion to it because of that. Plus, hair oil and I don't get along. Not that the girls aren't beautiful or business savvy (or rather, it's probably their mom that figures it all out so they might not be) but I doubt they use this stuff, no matter how much they try to say they do. Although, I don't use (or not use) things because of celebrity endorsement. I like to try things myself and that's why boxes are fun. Except for getting hair stuff. hah! I hate getting hair stuff but I'm probably the only one.
This is a bonus item in the box.

Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel- Yaaas! Give me all the brow grooming things! This is a clear gel that is like... an eyebrow push-up bra, I guess. Lifts and holds!  Either way, I'm using this. I don't really have unruly brows but they're skinny and I want them to look bigger without looking completely drawn on. If I can get my brow hairs to get up there with the pencil, I think that would make me happy.
Value: $18

VERDICT: I'm really happy with this box! There is some of everything, skincare, makeup, TOOLS!! Nails and hair. Seriously. So good. I'll use everything except the nail wraps and hair product. The retail value of the box is over $100 and the personal value is definitely worth the $21 I spent to get it.

If you'd like to subscribe to Boxycharm, you can sign up right here. You can get this exact box (with the possibility of color and style variance on the SmoulderEYEs) until the end of September or until they sell out. It'll tell you on their website.

  2. I got my box too. It is a very fun box this month! I got the chubby sized Tarte' eyeliner crayon in a gorgeous gold color. I LOVE the color. Gold is a color that looks good with green eyes and otherwise neutral shadow.

What, exactly, is wrong with the black seed oil sample other than the brand name? I mean, is it a product we shouldn't put on our hair?

I HATE Scratch nail wraps so badly there are no words. That was the I-see-red product in the box for me. I did see these nail wraps on someone's bare nails and they look good, but I don't want stickers on my fingers. Ha.
A lip gloss or lipstick would have been SO much more appreciated. Boxycharm does good lip product sourcing. :)

    1. No, nothing wrong with the hair product other than my aversion to the train wreck attraction of the Kardashians :D Several of my friends have worn nail wraps and I couldn't even tell!! Of course, when I try, they never work as well. Apparently you need a lot of practice.
This was a really well rounded box, though. Gold sounds marvelous!! I don't mind the brown but I admit a more unusual color would have been more fun. Although, I'll be honest, I have a lot of colors now and I still mainly use dark brown or black. Sometimes dark purple.

  3. Love BoxyCharm! I'm most excited about the Previse lotion (used it this morning), the brow gel and the foundation brush!

I got the skinny Tarte in golden tiger's eye - it mostly looks brown - it's nice. I've never tried nail wraps - my nail beds are very skinny… plus these look a little blah. But I will use the Kardashian hair oil! I refuse to give them enough credit to affect my decision to use a product one way or the other. (That sounds very mature but really I'm justifying b/c I want to try it.) :)

    1. Hahaha! That's an excellent way to look at it! I do like the Previse! And my nails are skinny, too, I wonder if that's why mine always looks so weird!
