My Texas Market is a new specialty subscription box that focuses on introducing some of the best Texan products. Each month you'll get a box packed with various small-batch, locally made food items, beauty products, & home goods. I really like boxes like this because well... I love food. I also love getting things that I wouldn't be able to get without a plane ticket and a little local knowledge. It's one way to get hooked on some pretty great new products.
Each box has a theme. This months theme is "Backyard Brunch" and each product was chosen to encourage a little laid-back, end-of-summer get-together. Here in Seattle we have the "laid-back" part down pat. The "summer" part? Well, it's rained for the last seven days. I think we've seen the last of the incredible heat we had this season. Luckily, all this Texan goodness applies to cold, rainy "I need a pick-me-up" days, too!
The Cost: $35/month.
What You Get: A combination of wholesome and homemade specialty food products, handmade candles, soaps, or other beauty products or other health and wellness items and/or sustainably-sourced coffee and tea, unique crafts or locally made chocolates and candies.
Earth Meets Water Candle Co. in Leave of Life- This is an 8oz mason jar candle with a wonderfully fresh scent. It has eucalyptus, sage, mint and basil scents. So refreshingly scented! The fragrances oils are phthalate free and each candle is handpoured. I love the fact that the jar is reuseable and that the lid is beautifully perforated so that the scent is released even when the candle isn't lit. I should warn you she has a sale on... :D
Value: $10
Gretchen Bee Ranch Raw Honey- Honey is one of my favorite sweeteners. Sometimes I just eat it plain. I don't think I've ever had honey from Texas but since I just used up the last of my Tupelo honey yesterday, this is on the counter for tomorrow! This honey seems very fruity to me. It's really amazing how different honey can taste when you get it from the beekeepers rather than the grocery store. There's such a variety of flavors that come out depending on what part of the country it's from or what kinds of plants the bees are getting their nectar from. This honey is wonderful!
Value: $4
Just Pure Flavors Bacon Jalepeno Jam- I don't even know what to say about something this awesome. My husband asked if I would make him BLT's so he could put this on it. Can you believe the only ingredients are bacon, jalepenos and a little cane sugar?! I'm pretty sure DH might eat this plain with a spoon. This product is the perfect blending of sweet and heat. Put it on your cheeseburger, your pork chop, chicken or sausage on your grill, your pancakes or waffles, your icecream or your breakfast tacos. Apparently it's also pretty tasty as a dip for Kettle Chips. Hm.
Value: $6
Liber & Co. Classic Gum Syrup-Gum syrup is a simple syrup combined with gum arabic, an all-natural emulsifier derived from African acacia trees. The addition of gum arabic lends the syrup a silky and more luxuriant mouthfeel when compared to a common simple syrup. It is a superior sweetener with incredible versatility.
I didn't even know this was a thing! Besides using it in place of a simple syrup in cocktails you can also use it for your tea (hot and iced), coffee and even lemonade. I'm actually really excited to try this. Because why not? That's what these boxes are all about! Trying new things!
Value: $7
PS Paper Shoppe Market List Notepad- Ahhh! One of my favorite things! Notepads! And this one has a magnet on the back so it will be perfect for the fridge and a shopping list. I use notepads for pretty much everything ever so I go through them like water. I love getting them in subscription boxes. I was needing to replenish my supply anyway and now I don't have to!
Value: $8
District Roasters "Totally Righteous Blend" Coffee- Freshly roasted by hand, organic and fair trade, this coffee was made for drinking! This is made with beans from all over the continents, a little bit of everything. It has hints of chocolate and juniper.
My husband really enjoyed this. It's so freshly roasted (the roast date was August 26th!) so even though it was ground, it was strong and flavorful.
Value: $8
VERDICT: I really enjoyed this My Texas Market box! I appreciate the variety of products included. I like it when a box can feature more than just the foodstuffs from a certain area. Although Texas does have some pretty amazing food! Everything in here was great quality, useful and the whole package made for a fun unboxing. I like to see what kinds of things curators decide to choose for boxes of this type. I think My Texas Market makes its way to the top of my list for excellence in curation for specialty, local boxes featuring area specific artisans. This is the kind of box that will give you a monetary worth right about the cost of the box or a little over but the true value is in the experience and discovery of new things you didn't know you needed.
Specialty boxes like this make wonderful gifts, too, so keep this in mind as the holiday season approaches. It's an especially good unisex gift. :)

What do you think of this box? That bacon jalepeno jam is a hot commodity around my house. All the guys had to try it. On their pizza even. Ew. I like bacon but jalepenos are not for me!
*This box was sent complimentary for review purposes. All opinions are miiiiiine! *licks honey coated fingers*
