Landfall Freight Co. ~ A Graphic Novel Subscription Review October 2015 Plus Coupon Code

Landfall Freight is a graphic novel subscription box designed for women who love comics, reading and are a little geektastic! This is fun because there are so few female-centric geek and gamer boxes out there. Not that this is only for gamers, it's more for readers but you know what I mean.

Each month will feature at least one graphic novel and/or comic usually written by a female with a female lead. Landfall Freight is very serious about supporting women owed business and bolstering women who love to read and enjoy graphic novels by introducing as much new material as possible.

This month, the theme is "Heart of Darkness" and the entire box revolves around it really efficiently. It's entirely appropriate for an October box, too!

The Cost: $29.99/month plus shipping.

What You Get: Every month has a feature graphic novels with a single issue comics, zines, or another graphic novel along with some artsy extras that play off of the month's feature title.

Heart in a Box by Kelly Thompson and Meredith McClaren- "When the Man with No Name breaks Emma's heart, she wants to die. But you never die from these things; you just want to. In a moment of weakness, she wishes her broken heart away and a mysterious stranger--who may or may not be totally evil--obliges. But emptiness is even worse than grief, and Emma sets out to collect the seven pieces of her heart spread across the country, a journey that forces her to face her own history and the cost of recapturing it, and leads inevitably to a confrontation with the Man with No Name himself!"
I actually started reading this and then got caught up and had to force myself to put it down in order to take photos and write up the review. As soon as I'm done here, I'm going right back to it!
Value: $10
Zombies Can't Swim by Kim Herbet- "What would you do if there really was a zombie apocalypse? San Francisco-based writer/artist Kim Herbst's debut comic answers that question. Set in semi-rural Japan and armed with just samurai swords, can the star-crossed lovers survive?"
This has some pretty intense artwork. I think I'm going to put this one on the coffee table for when the guys all come over. Especially on Halloween!
Value: $9
From Under the Mountains by Claire Gibson, Sloane Leong, Marian Churchland- " In the first issue of this new fantasy series, old feuds and new monsters rise up to haunt the isolated northern fortress of Karsgate."
I think this might be the favorite of the three. Maybe. I love the art in this comic, too. Not that they aren't all beautiful but... I like the story.
Value: $5

Tattify Follow Your Heart Tattoos- Non toxic tats that last 2-5 days.
Value: $2.95
Dark Cycle Clothing Heart on a Bag Tote- A 15"x16" canvas tote bag with a big pink heart on it. Not really my style but I know someone who will enjoy it. Technically, I should just use it because it will hold more groceries than my hands.
Value: $10
Also included in the box are some fun extras/filler. There is a mini DIY kit for making a dark heart garland to string somewhere (super easy, I promise you can do it). A Dark Horse Comics button and a deliciously tasty Caramel Apple Pop. I think all the boxes have one of these suckers. They're really good, too. Don't pass it on to your child.

VERDICT: This is a *really* fun box for those who love comics and graphic novels. The little extras add to the value and they are great additions, fleshing out the theme. While I have not been big into comics lately, I used to read them all the time. Then I discovered anime and got sucked into watching instead of reading. I'm just happy to see a box geared towards females in this genre with quality content. I love geek boxes and there are some geared towards girls but just because I'm female doesn't mean I want a bunch of jewelry every month. I like actual content and Landfall Freight has that in spades (dark hearts, ya know! *insert winky face*).

You can sign up for Landfall Freight right here. Use code MY10OFF to get 10% off your subscription! You'll start with the November box and the theme is.... "Girl Gangs!"

What do you think? Are you a comic book/manga/graphic novel reader?

*This box was sent complimentary for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
