The box was exploding with goodies. The mission statement of Litu Box is this:
Our mission is simple: provide you with high-quality items that you can feel good about receiving. Healthy snacks, handmade jewelry crafted by artisans from around the world, brands that follow ethical and sustainable business practices; these are just some of the amazing things we look for--- and you can expect--- in a Litu Box.
I think they definitely hit the mark with this box! Even better, this month part of the proceeds of the box sales will go to supporting UNICEF's humanitarian operation in Syria, providing children in refugee camps much needed supply of water, clothing & immunization.
What You Get: Each month you will receive a box of handmade and artisan goodies worth over $35. You will receive high quality, handcrafted products made by local and international artisans featuring anything from bath & home goods to women's accessories, eco-friendly products, jewelry & more!
When I first opened the box, right on top was a placard with a quote from the Dalai Lama. I love it so much, I'm going to frame it. It's a beautiful quote and it's a beautiful print. Perfect.
Each box has an information card explaining what is included and giving some interesting details about the production of the item and where it's from.
Just Good Chocolate Better World Brownies- This is a fair trade and certified organic, deliciously chocolatey brownie mix! I've had these before and they are very, very good.
Value: $7
Equal Exchange Organic 55% Dark Chocolate Minis- While I don't consider 55% to be dark, these chocolates are rich and velvety smooth. They're produced in Switzerland, are vegan and soy free and are made using 100% Fair Trade ingredients harvested from farmer co-operatives in the Dominican Republic, Peru and Paraguay. There are a lot of these, too! Enough that I can share without feeling like I'm depriving myself.
Value: $2
YumEarth Organics Vitamin C Lollipops- I have a sweet tooth and I really like these. They're sort of sour which makes them extra tasty. They use certified organic ingredients and are 100% vegan. They're made in Mexico which I never considered. I thought they were made here in the US. Either way, these are a great treat. And there's so many of them!!
Value: $2
Tili Glass Handmade Glass Earrings- These are made in Chile in a workshop set up by a husband and wife team called Calypso Chile Glass. They are part of the World Fair Trade organization and provide a living wage job to nearly 30 families. These are not my style but they are gorgeous.
Value: $18
Bow & Arrow Candle Co. Witches Brew Soy Candle- These are handpoured, 100% natural soy candles with cotton wicks. It smells unbelievably good! It has a combination of bergamot, cinnamon, jasmine, rose, black tea, patchouli and musk. So good. Also included were two bonus tea lights in Pumpkin Spice and Tobacco Bourbon. Everything smells amazing.
Value: $7
Litu Box Handmade Worry Doll and Gemstone Kit- These worry dolls are made with leftover handwoven fabric and crafted by Guatemalan artisans. 100% of the sales of these dolls goes to support UNICEF's work to provide Syrian children with water, clothing and vaccinations. You can buy these in the Litu Box shop.
Value: $5
Maya Traditions Handwoven Drawstring Pouch- These are made on a foot loom and is a work of art. It's gorgeous, vibrant and so well crafted. I've never been a big fan of rainbow patterns but this is so high quality I want to keep it. Or frame it, or something! That's how nice it is.
Value: $7
VERDICT: This Litu Box was so fun to unbox! It felt like the products just kept coming! Part of why I enjoyed this box so much is because I love candles and those scents are perfect for Fall. Part of it is because there is such a worldwide feel to the box. There is such a wonderful variety and a great array of products- from jewelry to organic snacks. It really feels like you've opened a box of beautiful gifts... to yourself! If this is a sign of what's to come, this is going to be an interesting subscription.
Here's the best part:
Currently, this is a one-time purchase and you can get the October box right here. Use code BITSBOXES40 to get 40% off this box!! That is SUCH a great coupon. It's basically a steal. It expires on Oct. 25th and there are a limited number of boxes available so get it while you can.
What do you think of this new subscription?
So I can get this box for $18?!? Hmmm, I'm very tempted. Wonder if I would get the same earrings or if there is a variety? Yours are beautiful but I'm sure they all are! The rainbow pouch I could give to one of my LGBT friends or just keep for myself. Are the brownies peanut free? If not, I'll still eat them but won't give to my one nephew. The candles look fabulous! The only thing is those worry dolls… not my thing, but I think I may know someone who might like them? And I agree that 55% isn't really dark chocolate, but we would eat them!!
ReplyDeleteI think there might be different colors and patterns for the earrings and the pouch. Worry dolls aren't my thing either but lots of people love that stuff! They're about 2 inches tall. I may give them to my niece just as toys. Let me check on the brownies... Okay, no nuts and the Allergen Statement says: Contains Wheat.
DeleteAnd don't forget the lollipops are very, very tasty. :D
Hi there! The earrings you'll receive if you order the box will be the same as pictured here. The pouches, however, come in a variety of rainbow (pictured), red, or black with a block of rainbow stripes. Let me know if you'd like a particular color. The brownies do not contain peanuts but there is no mention on the product packaging or their site whether or not they use a peanut-free facility, only that the product contains wheat. I just emailed Nichole (the owner of Just Good Chocolate) to find out from the company directly and I'll let you know as soon as I get an answer.
DeleteThe worry dolls would be perfect to give to friends/family who have trouble sleeping because among the Indian villages in the Guatemalan highlands where worry dolls are traditionally used, they are believed to take away a person's worry or fears by worrying in the person's place instead. The story of the dolls are included in the kit, and 100% of the sales go to UNICEF to help their campaign to provide Syrian children in refugee camps water, food, clothing & vaccinations.
I hope I answered most of your questions and please don't hesitate to reach out to us at help@litubox.com --- Jennifer/ Litu Box LLC
This is very helpful, thank you! Any of those bags colors would be good for me and I know who I'll give the worry dolls to now. :)
DeleteGreat, and thanks for your interest! By the way, the brownie mixes are 100% peanut-free and produced in a peanut-free facility. :) --- Jennifer
DeleteOh no! I waited too long and the 40% is no longer active… :(
ReplyDeleteNooo! Hopefully they'll have another one soon. I believe their first official box is December and they'll probably have a great holiday promotion for it.
