Popsugar Must Have October 2015 Lifestyle Subscription Box Review and Coupon Code

This month's Popsugar Must Have box is a little bit of an anomaly for me. I should preface that by saying that I absolutely adore the Popsugar Must Have box. It's my favorite box because it has a little bit of everything in it and it routinely is valued at double or triple the purchase price.
The world of subscription boxes is fraught with anxiety, FOMO (fear of missing out), personal preference and the love of spending money while saving it. Yes, I've anxiously awaited the mailman, groused about missing out on a certain box, loved or hated things included and been secretly (or openly) proud of the deal certain subscription boxes give me.

The October 2015 Popsugar Must Have box, at first look, seems a bit on the "meh" side for me.

The Cost: $39.99/month

What You Get: Full size, premium products dealing with Home, Fashion, Fitness, Beauty and Food!

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling- This is a collection of essays written by Mindy Kaling, actress/author/producer extraordinaire. I don't know her and I don't watch TV but I do know that many people loved her first book and think she's pretty funny. I'm willing to give her a try and this is a perfect way to do it.
Value: $15 hardback on Amazon
Savvy Sleepers Luxury Satin Pillowcase in White Russian- The weirdest thing about this is that it's only one case. I really like to have matching pillow cases. Although I do admit that I tend to color code my husbands pillows. He drools. A lot. So I never want to accidentally use his pillow. Gross. I guess the one white satin pillowcase will always be mine. Because I'm totally using it. Mmm... soft! Oh, and it has a little pocket to put a sachet in! I'm totally doing that.
Oh and can I just say it's not your pillowcase that's going to prevent sleep wrinkles on your face. That has everything to do with being dehydrated. If you're properly hydrated it won't matter what flavor of pillowcase you sleep on, you won't get those wrinkles. Nice try, Savvy Sleepers. Pfft.
Value: $36 (seriously?)
Easy, Tiger Brown Paper Liquor Bag Set- So... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that there is going to be a large majority of people unable to use these bags. And I am counting all the under 21's who are subscribers. However, gifting season is coming up and wine tends to change hands fairly frequently as hostess gifts so they do have some use.
Value: $8
Belgian Boys Stroopwafel- I really like stroopwafels so seeing these made me happy. I'm not quite sure how they made it into a Popsugar box but whatever. I'll eat them.
Value: $2

Richer Poorer Hope Slipper Socks- Pink! It's October and therefore everyone must think pink. And think about the tatas. /sigh I hate cancer. Anyway, I love socks. LOVE socks. You don't even want to see my sock collection. I will happily (very happily) wear these socks around the house. There's little grippies on the bottom so there's no slipping on the hardwood. Yay!
Value: $15
The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub in Lavender Vanilla- I want to use this so badly but the lavender gets me. This uses almond oil and shea butter with sugar and salt to scrub a dub dub. All you lucky unallergic people get to slather this stuff on and come out with baby smooth skin. I really like the Honest Company, too.
Value: $17

It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product- So many people swear by this stuff and it pops up in subscription boxes fairly often. I tend to stick with what I know and that's the Birchbox Beauty Protector. This is also a "special extra" and it's a good one!
Danielle Stevens Monogram Gift Card- This is $40 to spend at daniellestevens.com in the Personalized section. Nothing there is under $50 so you have to spend money in order to use the coupon. Luckily this is considered a "special extra" so it doesn't count toward the value of the box.

VERDICT: This box is just weird to me. It doesn't make any sense. Not that a box needs to make sense, especially if there is amazing product but this box has neither. It might be my least favorite Popsugar Must Have box ever. Let's see... I'll use the ridiculously overpriced pillowcase. I'll read the book. I already ate half of the Stroopwafels. Oh, and I'm totally wearing the socks right this second. Well, that's odd. How can I be using most of the products in the box when I'm saying it's my least favorite box ever?! Bah. That's how Popsugar is. Even when you think the box is a dud, you end up using more than you expect. This month didn't have an exceptional value but that's not the usual.

If you would like to sign up for Popsugar Must Have, you can do that right here. Use code REFER5 or MUSTHAVE5 to get $5 off your first box.

  1. I don't sub to this box and am usually "meh" when I read reviews of their boxes... But I like this one! I've really been wanting to try a satin or silk pillow case - even if it won't help prevent wrinkles, it should reduce pillow marks and maybe help my hair be less frizzy!

    1. Yah, I'm wondering about the hair part! So far it seems to have some static cling but when I wash it that should go away. Also, it's a pretty stark white and when I rubbed it on my cheek my makeup transferred to it. /sigh Just never get satin sheets. Those babies are so slippery you can't even sit on the edge of the bed without sliding right off! Haha! At least that's how it worked for me.

  2. My suggestion is to go to eBay and buy a `100% silk set of pillowcases. No static and they are the " real deal" when it comes to protecting hair and skin ( as best as soft fine fabric can).
Polyester satin is not a good substitute for silk satin. I had the poly type for a long time, then switched to silk. Day and night difference. Silk is cool and breathes, too, because it is a natural fabric.

I've cancelled over 55 sub boxes. I only kept Pop Sugar and a snack box, but after reading this review, am thinking about cancelling Pop Sugar too. This is a cheap and dismal box for me.

    1. I should do that. Especially because then I'd have a matching pair at least and in a prettier color than white.
You are strong, keeping only two! I usually really love my Popsugar boxes but this one? Not so much. I think if I was only keeping two boxes, I'd keep Popsugar and Box of Style.
