It's eminently affordable and make a fun gift, not just for someone else, but also for yourself. It's fun to get a box of goodies in the mail and for $10, it becomes sort of irresistible.
The Cost: $10/month.
What You Get: Five samples and sometimes full size items, including everything from makeup and skin care to non beauty essentials like candles and tea. Plus a really great points program.
Ayres Body Polish in Pampas Surprise- This body polish uses apricot seed powder to exfoliate your skin. It has a plethora of essential oils, including citrus, so it's definitely for your body and not your face. It has lavender in it, too, so I didn't smell it but I bet its pretty tasty smelling.
theBalm Cosmetics FratBoy- This is a blush and eyeshadow combo. TheBalm packaging is always so cute, too. I think I'd use this as a blush before I'd use it as an eyeshadow. It's a little on the pink side.
My Daughter Fragrance in Joyful- What a weird name for a perfume brand. This is a blend of orange flower, lime blossom, rose, jasmine and creamy sandalwood. Fresh and floral. Not my style. Mainly because I do not love floral perfumes.
Davines This is A Relaxing Moisturizing Fluid- Long name for a frizz eliminator. I'm not big on hair products but my MIL would love something that gets rid of frizz and preps hair for the flat iron. This is a good size tube, too, with a lot of uses.
LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Glam Life- I chose the magenta color (glam life) and it is gorgeous, matte and is almost like a stain in the color it leaves behind when it wears off. LOC stands for Love of Color and is Birchbox's new brand. It reminds me of Juleps Plump Pout but without the moisturizing.
VERDICT: Birchbox is definitely a gateway subscription. Once you get a few boxes, you'll wonder what else is out there. Then you'll branch out to finding your perfect subscription box storm and become completely attached. Birchbox is an excellent "beginner" subscription. The thing that keeps me coming back is their unbeatable points program. When you refer or review your boxes, you earn points. Ten points per review equals 50-60 points a box. One hundred points is ten dollars. It's really, really easy to rack up points and also easy to find things to buy in their well-stocked shop. Wait long enough and you can buy a Clairsonic Mia for nothing but points! It's that awesome. They also have lots of coupon codes, too.
Keep your eye out for Black Friday subscription sales!
Otherwise sign up now right here. Use code BBJETBLUE10 and get 100 points deposited in your account! That's an automatic $10 to spend in their shop. It's like your first box is basically free. Or at least that's how I rationalize it. :D

Box twins! I actually got two of this box, pretty happy with it but it stinks that you can't use the lavender stuff. That put you in a bad spot with Allure this month too, huh? 😕
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!! I thought this was a well rounded box but just not everything was to my taste. And yes, you are right. I think that was two products in the Allure box I couldn't use but they'll be great as stocking stuffers. :D
