Olfactif November 2015 "Layered" Review and Coupon Code

Olfactif is a luxury perfume sampling subscription. The fragrances Olfactif sends are not mass produced, watered down, celebrity endorsed versions of anything. They send creative, complex and potent unisex scents.

Olfactif samples are generously sized and come in glass spray vials, holding 2.25 ml of perfume (1.75 ml in the case of a few extremely pricey scents), which is about 40 sprays. You'll receive a seasonally appropriate, curated selection of niche perfumes from some of the worlds best noses. These are not fragrances you will find in department stores, these are perfumes you happen upon.

The Cost: $18/month.

What You Get: Three niche perfume samples in 2.25ml spray vials, carefully packaged and sent to your door every month. You'll also receive $18 toward the purchase of a full size bottle for the month.

1826 by Histoires de Parfums- This fragrance has notes of bergamot, tangerine, white flowers, violet, cinnamon, ginger, patchouli, amber, incense, blonde woods, white musk and vanilla. Unfortunately for me, I can't stand patchouli. I think I may be allergic to it because it's the scent that makes my throat itch.
La Fin du Monde by Etat Libre d'Orange - This is an interesting and unusual combination of scents. It's listed as smelling like popcorn, cumin, iris and gunpowder (among other things). On me, I smell the gunpowder immediately, two seconds later- popcorn! Later, my skin really picks up the floral notes (iris, freesia) with cumin and black pepper clearing my nose and settling with a sweet sandalwood note. It's really interesting but like some of the others, just too masculine for me even with the sweeter dry down.
Trayee by Neela Vermeire Creations- This spritzer is only 1.75ml because it's ridiculously expensive. The notes are blue ginger, elemi oil, cinnamon bark, ganja effects, blackcurrant, basil, jasmine, cardamom, clove, saffron, sandalwood, vetiver, incense, patchouli, myrrh, vanilla, cedar, amber, oud and oakmoss. Talk about complicated! At first this smells like ginger and cardamom on me. It dries down really woody and incense-y, super warm and (imo) a little masculine. It's really a great Winter fragrance. I think it's my favorite of the three.

VERDICT: Olfactif is one of the better perfume sampling subscriptions out there. I think they do a great job choosing seasonally appropriate fragrances. The three included this month all remind me of woods and warm fires. I'm by no means a connoisseur of perfumes but I can definitely enjoy a good one. I'm also not the type to wear teeny bopper, light, sparkly perfumes that smell like alcohol. This is a great way to test high quality perfumes from some of the best independent perfume houses in the world. Since you're not going to find these in stores, there's no other way for you to get a taste of these. Plus, if you choose to purchase, the cost of this box goes toward buying a full bottle.

I like the fact that these are not run-of-the-mill perfumes. I like the way they allow me to be unique. No one else is going to smell like I do. I've already been stopped and asked what I'm wearing (that was with the October box- I was wearing Dark Horse by Dame Perfumery).
