Since my favorite scents tend to be around this time of year, I have been subscribed for a few months in a row. Flicker Box recently changed it's pricing structure and is now charging for shipping and while I was grandfathered in at the older (better) price, I decided to make the most of it and subscribe through January.
The Cost: $34/month plus $5.95 shipping
What You Get: A carefully curated box of all kinds of unique, handmade artisan candles with appropriately seasonal scents.
Mole Hollow Bayberry Scented Tapers- These tapers smell unbelievably good. They smell so good I don't want to burn them. But I did. I will say that the cold throw is much better than the hot. I have no idea what kind of wax they use because I couldn't find that information on their website. I'm guessing that means it's a mix with paraffin. These tapers burn perfectly with a solid flame, no dripping and are basically perfect in every way that a taper can be.
Value: $7
Big Dipper Wax Works Cinnamon Orange Spice- Big Dipper is from Seattle and they use only beeswax for their candles! These 3.2oz apothecary jars burn for 25 hours. This smells so delicious, too. All that orange and clove and cinnamon makes my mouth water!
Value: $10
Lighten Up Shoppe Peppermint Soy Candle- This candle smells exactly like a candy cane! Exactly! I love it. Sadly, they don't sell this in their shop that I can find (and not in this size either).
This is a 2oz mini candle.
Value: $4
Eco Candle Co. Gingerbread Man- This is the biggest candle in the bunch at 5oz. It has a sweet "baking" kind of smell. Definitely gingery but also cinnamon and sugary, too. It's a teensy bit on the too sweet side but once I burn it, I'll know for sure if I like it or not.
Value: $11
VERDICT: I like curation of Flicker Box, though I do feel like the value could be a lot better. That's a pretty consistent thought of mine regarding this box. It's definitely more for the fun of getting new, interesting candles than it is for getting a deal. There have also been a few changes in the packing. Instead of being in crinkles (which I admittedly don't really like), the jars are wrapped in paper and stuck in the box. It's always a little unnerving to open it up and see the jars wrapped so plainly. Before, it was more fun to dig around and see what was in there. I know that's a weird complaint but if you're planning on gifting this... It's not really wrapped in a way you would want a gift to be done up. I can't believe nothing has broken.
If you would like to sign up for Flicker Box, you can do that here.
What do you think of Flicker Box? Would you ever get a candle subscription or do you prefer to pick your scents?
