The theme this month is "What's in a Name" and features some interesting and silly names. One of them is completely ridiculous.
These are unique perfumes by some of the best and most talented artists from around the world. The fragrances sent by Olfactif are potent, creative and complex. And you won't ever find them in a department store. Olfactif samples are generously sized and come in glass spray vials, not those hard-to-open poptops. Each vial holds 2.25 ml of perfume (1.75 ml in the case of a few extremely pricey scents), which is about 40 sprays.
The Cost: $18/month
What You Get: Three niche perfume samples in 2.25ml spray vials, carefully packaged and sent to your door every month. You'll also receive $18 toward the purchase of a full size bottle for the month.
4160 Tuesdays The Dark Heart of Old Havana- Oh my gosh! This smells wonderful. It's unisex and spicy. I think it does really work as a unisex fragrance, too. Wow. I'm kind of in love with it. It starts out sweet but not cloying and settles into a dark vanilla-y tobacco duskiness that I really like. Top notes are orange, peach, grapefruit and sugar; middle notes are tobacco, bergamot, tonka bean, jasmine and coffee; base notes are vanilla, musk and black pepper. Glorious!
Ego Facto Poopoo Pidoo- I'm thinking Betty Boop, thankfully, now that I've examined the name more closely but at first I couldn't believe someone thought this name was a good one. It's a French perfume. This is more floral than I like. I don't like that powder scent. It mellowed out to some definite rice/grain but still was too floral. Something in it gave me a headache so I washed it off before I got to the bottom notes. Notes are citrus, orange blossom, rice, amber, woods and musk.
Dasein Winter- Described as a winter forest of smoky fir and sweet lavender. Notes are Blue Spruce, black cardamom, forest pine and French lavender. Given my lavender allergy I did not try this or spritz it but I sure wanted to. I *love* pine scents! Oh, well. /sigh
VERDICT: Olfactif really sends some unique, fascinating scents. Explore the hidden depths of the world of perfume has been eye-opening. I had no idea that there were such truly interesting combinations of scents in fragrance. I guess I was just used to all that candy colored, pop star endorsed, sickenly sweet stuff that everyone wore in high school and just decided perfume wasn't my thing because of it. Now I know I was wrong!
