BeautyFix February 2016 Subscription Box Review

BeautyFix by Dermstore is a subscription box that sends beauty and skincare samples along with full size products. The contents tend to veer into the unusual and interesting quite often. At least in my opinion and experience.

It's hard not to like this subscription for the unique skincare but sometimes I'm left underwhelmed by the sizes. BeautyFix does promise full size items and does deliver on the promise but I always will like it better then the full sizes outnumber the samples.

The Cost: $24.99/month

What You Get: Each month, we'll be offering a different BeautyFIX box, featuring full- and travel-size of the latest and greatest products in skin care, hair care and makeup, worth at least $100.

Purlisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum- Blue Lotus eye serum enhanced with active ingredients like French marine plants, Matrixyl 3000 and Haloxyl bring 4x the power against aging in this intensive eye serum. This proven complex work together against wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness, while hydrating and lifting the delicate eye area.
Meh. I don't really like Purlisse much. Too expensive for lackluster ingredients. I do like the fact that it has peptides in it, though. It's not all bad. :)
Value: $65 (full size!)

Nick Chavez Advanced Volume Hairspray- Provides a strong hold for styling while adding volume to each strand. UV filters protect hair from environmental damage. Botanical extracts such as evening primrose, grapefruit, and spirulina condition strands while lanolin locks in moisture to prevent frizz. Its versatile formula is ideal for setting styles, lifting roots, blow outs, or as a finishing spray. It is especially beneficial for fine, limp and thin hair.
Well, my hair is fine and limp so I need this.
Value: $5
DS Laboratories Revita.cor Hair Stimulating Conditioner- A high-performance conditioner to invigorate for thicker, fuller-looking hair. The stimulating ingredients penetrate deeper and persist longer due to encapsulated hydrophobic, bio-adhesive, cationically charged microspheres. They continue to work on your scalp and hair for at least 12 hours after use.
I have the shampoo from the last BeautyFix box (one wonders why they didn't include them both the first time around) and actually liked it so I'm going to use this, too.
Value: $15
Skinceuticals AGE Eye Complex Treatment- An eye treatment designed to dramatically improve signs of aging around the eyes in mature skin. Optical diffusers improve radiance and minimize the appearance of dark circles and capillaries. A complex of flavonoids and synergistic peptides strengthen blood vessel walls, improve lymphatic drainage, and eliminates hemoglobin’s colored end-products to improve dark circles and puffiness. Proxylane restores water and nutrient content to the dermal epidermal junction to increase skin elasticity and thickness for improvement of wrinkles and crow’s feet.
Well it promises a lot but I doubt it can deliver as dramatically as all that. It does have peptides in it, which is nice, but even they aren't this magical.
Value: Sample

Lashfood Phyto-medic Natural Eyelash Enhancer- A blend of organic medicinal herb extracts, scientifically demonstrated to activate lash follicles and support the natural growth of stunning lashes. The patented formulation of organic medicinal extracts was demonstrated to minimize lash loss and trigger natural growth of lashes.
Interestingly, this suggests using it with lash extensions to get a longer lasting "bond life." Since eyelashes fall out about every three weeks (taking the lash extensions with them), this could save me some cash on fills. Oh, darn!! It not only has lavender in it, it has ginseng as well. I'm not risking that near my eyes. Bummer!
Value: $10
Glominerals Suede Matte Stick- Saturated, long-wear color provides intense payoff with a velvety-smooth finish. Enriched with antioxidant Vitamins C and E as well as conditioning Mango Oil and Shea Butter for nourishing protection.
Last month we got the red one, this month it's pink. Or Punch, actually. It's gorgeous! I love this matte formula, too. I don't even know how it works but this lipstick is pigmented and beautiful. It's matte but... it's sort of not. Except that it is. There's probably a name for that and I don't know what it is.
Value: $16
Danielle Creations Gold-plated Eyelash Curler- An eyelash curler. Plated in 24k gold. Can you sense my enthusiasm?
Value: $9.99

VERDICT: Thanks to the full size Purlisse product, this box is worth $100 which is what is promised. I feel like this box was kinda boring because we just had GloMinerals and DS Laboratories in last months box. This is a particular problem with BeautyFix. Repeat brands. Repeatedly.
I like BeautyFix but I admit I'm on the cusp of cancelling. It might be best for me to subscribe and cancel when I see spoilers of boxes I'd enjoy.

If you would like to sign up for BeautyFix, you can do that here. It looks like they're sold out of subscriptions right now which is weird. I don't think I've seen that before. Normally, you just sign up and get whichever box is available between the current month and the next.

Have you been a long time BeautyFix subscriber? What do you think about it?

  1. I subbed to BeautyFix last year from about April to October, I think. I really did love it and was SO tempted to resub several times - especially at half price in Dec & Jan!

Considering it was my favorite sub for several months, I still had to cancel because 1) I have way too many products to use from all my sub boxes 2) the $25 price is just a little too high for the budget - even though value is awesome and 3) I got really frustrated seeing offers for other people to get the box for 50% off - or for $5! - for 6+ months in a row...

All that being said, if they had a deal for 30% off a 1-year sub or something.... I'd probably have to jump on it! Or just keep waiting to see the box every month and use a new email to get it half off if I really want it. Your reviews are the ones I use to truly decide when it comes to skincare, thanks for all you do!

    1. I had to call time on my relationship with Beautyfix. I like the premise and love the skincare but the execution is lacking. I might do the subscribe and cancel if I like a box but right now... Ehhh, not worth it!

    2. I just saw a review of the May BeautyFix and it looks really good! I was hoping you were getting it because I trust your judgment… I might have to buy it. :)

    3. If you could get it for $12.50? Yes! Otherwise it seems like those samples are pretty weensy. Might be worth it for the Beauty Blender?
