Popsugar Must Have Resort Special Edition 2016 Review and Coupon Code

Normally I don’t get the Popsugar Resort boxes. Mainly because Summer isn’t really my favorite time of year. Here in Seattle, summer is pretty short and sandwiched by rain. However, this year we have several vacations planned and I’ve been woefully negligent in procuring summer vacation related things. Not only that but I will be going to my very first music festival! It’s in Oregon and we are going with a large group of friends. Normally, I wouldn’t go to what I consider a hippie event but everyone was so randomly available and interested, I figured even if it was awful, I’d still have a great time with all my friends that are going.

So with all that in mind, I ordered up! Actually, I accidentally ordered twice and had to contact customer service and tell them I was a big idiot. They were super nice about it and fixed it perfectly.

The Cost: $100 + tax

What You Get: Goodies to send you into vacation season with style.

Tai Evil Eyes Pom-Pom Bracelet- This is so totally not my style. At all. I think if it didn’t have the pom poms and the weird evil eye charms, it wouldn’t be so bad. I’m tempted to keep it because it seems hippie-ish to me but eeeehhh…

This seems like a sort of weird product to send in a Popsugar box. I can’t imagine everyone being into evil eye stuff.
Value: $95

Mela Artisans Congo in Indigo Photo Frame- When I first saw this in a spoiler I wasn’t sure I would like it but now that I have it, I love it! It’s so bright and blue and pretty! I have no idea what photo to put in it, though. I’ll have to dig around.

These are made in India out of bone! Dyed bone. I had no idea. It takes five hours to make one frame and they use the bones of animals that have been used for food. Nothing goes to waste.
Value: $50

Goorin Bros. Fatima Hat- Now this is something I can take to my hippie festival! It’s “packable” hat so it can be squished without issues and since it’ll be hot and sunny, I’ll need something to keep the sun off my face and shoulders. This is a little bit big, I think but should work fine, especially if I have my hair up. It has a faux leather wrap with a metal charm around the crown which I like. It’s made of paper textile and polyester.
Value: $46

Indie Lee Coconut Citrus Body Scrub- This is an all-natural blend of coconut, lemongrass, lemon balm, jojoba and vanilla. It’s an exfoliating scrub that uses sugar to buff away dead skin. Perfect to use before shaving. As a subscription box addict, I have several scrubs laying around so I’m deciding on whether to gift or use this.
Value: $38

Rifle Paper Co. Passport Pocket Notebook Set- Normally I love and adore anything Rifle Paper Co. but I was so disappointed to see that these are unlined. I’m a list maker. I make a billion lists. I need lines to make perfect lists though. I like everything to line up evenly along the left side. Am I weird?
Value: $10

Kara’s Cupcakes Artisan Toasted Coconut Marshmallows- After having just tasted the Viveltre marshmallows from the Cozy Reader Club box, these somehow weren’t as tasty as they probably would have been otherwise. I’m a big fan of coconut though so while they weren’t *as* tasty, they were still good.
Value: $12

Make Beauty Custom Finish Effects in Matte/Dew- Compact with dual-texture formulas that contain a mattifying gel formula (peach) to reduce the appearance of lines and pores, and a moisturizing formula (pink) that leaves skin hydrated, supple and radiant.
These basically have very little color payout and are mainly for mattifying oily spots and sprucing up areas you want to highlight. Sounds good to me! I haven’t used it yet but I think it’ll be fun to take with me out and about.
Value: $27

DuJour
DuJour Magazine Gift Subscription- A complimentary subscription that arrives four times a year to keep you up to date on style, culture and beauty happenings. It’s billed as the magazine for the 1%. I’m not sure that makes it appealing. It also appears that you can subscribe for free. I browsed the site a bunch. Yes, I looked at the pictures of where Kylie and Tyga (barf!) stayed during NYFW– totally guilty. And it made me want a new master bathroom.
I’m not sure if you only get one magazine or a whole year but here’s the link: http://www.ezsubscription.com/duj/subscribe?type=demo . I’m not sure I’d recommend it, though, because you’ll probably get tons of spam. Either in your email or your regular mail. You know how things like this work. And anyway, if anyone can get it free, it shouldn’t count toward part of the box value.
Value: $31.96

VERDICT: So I’m not actually sure what I think about this whole box yet. It’s actually a well rounded box with jewelry, home, skincare, makeup and office goods. I think I might have been expecting something a little more exciting. Mainly because if I’m packing up to head to a Resort, it’s a pretty big deal. The value of this box (minus the magazine) is over $275 which is far more than the cost of the box. Of course, there’s a little bit of “well, I wouldn’t buy a frame that was $50 anyway!” The true value of the box is what you, personally, will get out of it. For me, the hat, frame and the Make Beauty Duo are the best parts of the box with the marshmallows adding a bit of snack happiness. Otherwise, the bracelet will be likely gifted, the Rifle Paper Co. Notebooks swapped and the magazine subscription tossed. We’ll see, though.

The Resort box is a limited edition but you can still subscribe monthly to the Popsugar Must Have box. It’s one of my favorite boxes and you can check it out here. They’ve also introduced a Must Have Mini that’s about $20 but I don’t think it’s as good of a deal as the regular Popsugar Must Have box is at $40. Use code REFER5 or MUSTHAVE5 to get $5 off the regular box.
