Allure Beauty Box April 2015 Review and $5 Coupon

Of all the low cost beauty boxes out there, the Allure Beauty Box is my favorite. I get brands I like and respect, products I want to use and sometimes (like this month) they send extras! The April 2016 Allure Beauty Box has six items instead of just five. I feel like we've been getting bonus products fairly frequently which has been really nice.

If you're looking for a beauty box, I think Allure is a great choice. Especially if you're older and are looking for good skincare along with quality makeup. I am and I've been very happy with selections this box has sent over the years (yes, years!).

The Cost: $15/month

What You Get: Five deluxe-size beauty samples from a curated mix of skin, hair, and makeup products as well as fragrance.

Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Styling Creme- This fights frizz and gives hair shine. It's made with olive oil and is a lightweight creme. It's a leave in conditioner that you can also use to texturize by scrunching up damp hair. I'm not big on styling cremes but I do like getting rid of frizz. What I don't like is stuff that makes my hair look greasy. There's a fine line, I think. So far my John Frieda has been making me happy.
Value: $5.75

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil- Made with grapeseed oil and sweet almond oil, this is a cleansing and moisturizing oil. Use it in the shower as you would a regular cleanser. I like this product already having received a smaller version in a different box so I'm happy to have this much bigger bottle!
Value: $9.50
Bvulgari Goldea Eau de Parfum- The mini mag that came with the box says that this is a "floriental" fragrance. It has notes of orange blossom, ylang-ylang, jasmine and patchouli. It's a strangely satisfying scent but I can't get over how "old lady" it smells.
Value: $11

DDF Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer Moisturizing Serum- I have actually tried this before and liked it. It's a silicone based all-in-one primer, moisturizer, pore minimizer and wrinkle reducer that gives a smooth look to your skin. What I like is that it's got good moisturizers plus niacinamide for evening out skintone. I can always use more and this is a good sized amount so it'll last me awhile. It's also very expensive so it's not something I would buy on my own, that's for sure.
Value: $25
Bonus: L'Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara- This is a bonus added to the box and isn't considered as part of the value. I always love getting bonuses! I have tried this mascara in the past and it's not my favorite but my sister swears by it and has been using it for years. She'll be happy I saved her $7 when I give it to her. :)

Mally PerfectPrep Lip Pencil- I love lip pencils! Especially in my old age. I didn't realize how great they were at making perfect lips. I can always tell the difference when I use one and when I don't. Using one always looks better. I tend to match them to my lipstick but I also have a few that are nearly exact to my lip color that I use.  This pencil comes in 8 shades and I got Light/Medium which seems like a weird name for a color but whatever. It's definitely more brown than anything I currently use but I might have something that matches it well. I always keep my lip pencils. I don't get very many so I tend to hoard them. The texture is really smooth gliding and it's got great staying power. I'm really pleased with this one. Hooray for no dry, feathering lips!
It looks like the one I received either got a new name or new packaging.
Value: $8

VERDICT: You don't even know how happy I was to see the DDF and the shower gel in this box! These two things are valued at double the cost of the box to begin with so I definitely feel I got my money's worth. It's one of the things I really like about Allure. I always do feel like I get a great value. Plus it has good brands and great variety and is very consistent about that.

If you would like to sign up for the Allure Beauty Box and you are a first time customer, you can use this link to sign up and get $5 off your first box. That offer link is from the Allure website and it appears to be the only way to get a discount. I hunted around for others but that's the only working one I know of. You will start with the May box.

I think it's a great price for what you get. This month's box was worth over $50.  I'd say I was biased but I don't think I am. I've been subscribed for nearly two years now and they just keep getting better.

  1. I LOVED my box, especially the shower oil, the Fekkai Glossing Creme, which I have used off and on for many years, and the DDF serum.

I didn't get a lip pencil, sigh. Of course, if I had, it likely would have been brown or bright red, neither color which looks even close to the natural, more nude lip I favor..
The May box spoilers are amazing!! :)
