Birchbox April 2016 Beauty Box Review and Coupon Code

Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription that sends about five samples of varying categories to your doorstep every month. It's sort of addicting. In fact, while Fabfitfun was my first subscription box to arrive, it was Birchbox that set me on the downward slope of subscription addiction. And here I am three years later, with Birchbox still landing regularly on my porch.
This month I got seven samples which is pretty sweet. Two are bonuses but I'll still get 50 points when I review the contents of my box. Fifty points means $5 to spend at the Birchbox shop (once it reaches $10- you have to have at least $10 to start spending). I have a ton of things in my shopping cart because Birchbox has everything from beauty and perfume to tech gadgets and home goods. I've been saving up my points to just buy it all at once. Do you realize how hard it is to save points? It is SO hard for me! Once I get $20, I'm like "What can I buy!?" Someone tell me I'm not the only one with issues. Please?

The Cost: $10/month

What You Get: Five samples and sometimes full size items, including everything from makeup and skin care to non beauty essentials like candles and tea. Plus a really great points program.

Davines Ol All in One Milk- Normally I shove this stuff aside but this is a leave in treatment that is supposed to add volume, shine, detangling and heat protection. I like all those things. Lucky me, Birchbox also included sample packets of the Davines Shampoo and Conditioner that match the leave in treatment. Love it!
Marcelle 3-in-1 Micellar Solution- I love, love, love micellar waters. They're cleansing waters that mean you don't have to soap up your face over the sink and rinse off. I will say that they're not the best at getting off thick makeup but for a once over after getting out of the shower, it's magic. Or if you're hiking. Or camping. Or you don't have water. You know what I mean.

Dermae Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask- I really like Dermae and I adore charcoal masks. I've never tried this one but I will be, thanks to this sample.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Femme- This is a cult favorite lip brand. You just need the tiniest dot of the lipquid (that was actually a typo that I just left because it describes it perfectly) and your lips will be the most insane color. This applies opaque and matte. It's very bubblegum pink and I don't recall reverting back to my childhood so I'm not sure if I'll use this. I left the 80's far behind and that's a good thing.

Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume- This is a single note perfume of Cetalox. It's billed as elegant and spicy. I call it Not My Thing. It smells really old lady-ish to me.

VERDICT: This was actually a really fun and useful Birchbox! Even though I don't like getting perfume, the Davines collection, the micellar water and the Dermae charcoal mask are totally getting used. I'm still out on the lip tar. I may give it to my niece just to see her mom croak when she see's her wearing it. My "niece" is actually the daughter of my best friend, she's 12 and I've been Auntie since she was born. I might have to do that.

Anyway, Birchbox is a great starter subscription, it makes a fantastic gift for any girl in their teens and a fun mailbox surprise for everyone else. :)

  1. I read this entry right after your review of that luxury French subscription box, and even though that one is 15x the price, I think this is so much more exciting.
