Sephora Play! Beauty Box Subscription Review

Sephora is currently expanding their subscriber base for their new beauty box, Play! by Sephora. Emails for those who've been on the waitlist have been rolling out so check your inbox! This is a super fun beauty box and it's quickly becoming one of my top ten based on brands and sizes. Normally I'm all about the Allure Beauty Box but it looks like Sephora might squidge it out of my top spot.
With each box, you'll receive a fold out pamphlet explaining what you've received and how to use it. This is actually really nice because you can learn some new ways to apply old favorites.
There's also a monthly theme and June's is "The Minimalist." As with most beauty box themes, it's a very loose theme but I don't mind. Oh, and you'll also get a little cotton drawstring bag to hold all your goodies.

The Cost: $10/month

What You Get: A collection of five deluxe samples plus a fragrance in a cute bag, delivered monthly.

Tarte Tarteguard Sunscreen Lotion SPF30- I'll be honest, I didn't even know Tarte *made* a sunscreen! Tarteguard uses my favorite form of sunscreen-- titanium dioxide and zinc oxide-- so it's a keeper. I laugh, though, because the pamphlet says that this is a "non-chemical" sunscreen. Umm... titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are both very much chemical (and mineral, too!)... Anyway, It's a good size for throwing in my handbag for touch-ups if necessary.

Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It- This is for fine to medium hair and adds body. I have very fine hair and it definitely needs some poof. Without frizz, of course. Apply creme to hair then scrunch or twist hair to get volume.
Tocca Beauty Florence- I never really use perfume samples since I'm so picky. This is a blend of bergamot, violet petals and blonde wood

Benefit Cosmetics They're Real Mascara- While I don't like the Roller Lash, this one works better for me. None of Benefit's mascaras are my HG but I'll use them in a pinch. Especially because I have so many travel size versions.
BareMinerals bareSkin Bronzer- I nearly squeeed outloud when I saw this. I love my bareSkin serum foundation and am very excited to try this. You can add some drops of this bronzer to your foundation for an all over look, use the bronzer alone for a natural, sun-kissed tan or use it to contour. You can also add it to your body lotion to get some quick color on your arms and legs. So many ways to use it!
Becca Backlight Priming Filter- This is an amazing sample! It's huge, for one, and it's a brand I respect. Plus, I've just started loving primers with some "glow" to them. It gives a nice subtle sheen when under my regular foundation. I put it all over my hand to test the level of glow...
It's perfect! This is described as a "shimmering makeup primer that acts as a soft-focus filter to blur imperfections and gives skin a luminous look." I used it yesterday and loved it! It's definitely got shimmer but it's not like glitter (thank goodness).

VERDICT: I adored this box! The brands are stellar, I'll use most products and the sizes are fantastic. The variety is perfection with some skincare, some makeup and haircare. I still can't get over the size of the Becca primer. It should last me quite awhile, same goes for the bronzer. Even though I don't like perfume, this box killed it!

If you would like to sign up for Play! by Sephora, you can do that here. Do keep in mind they're currently on a waitlist so put your email address in there and wait for the happy day to arrive. You can always change your mind once you get the email, if you want to.

  1. I'm loving my June Play! box!! I've tried everything except the sunscreen (trying to finish another sample first) and the mascara (same reason). I even like that perfume scent pretty well and I don't like perfume samples either! At least it's always sample # 6 / bonus in this Sephora box each month.
