Shaker and Spoon Cocktail Subscription Box June 2016 Review and Coupon Code

Shaker and Spoon is a subscription designed to help you create some of the best cocktails ever without having to break the bank on special ingredients. You will need to supply the alcohol but other than that, everything is included to make 12 perfect drinks. Each box comes with three recipes with step-by-step instructions so you know you're doing it right.
The month of June features cocktails made with sparkling wine. Bring on the bubbles! When I read the list of what's included in the box, you should have seen how excited I got! FUN things are included! I told my husband we were having drinks right then (except I forgot we didn't have champagne). Once I got a good look at everything and told him about what he would be able to taste test, he went out and got two bottles.

The Cost: $55/month

What You Get:  Each month you'll receive everything you need -syrups, bitters, garnishes and citrus- to create at least 12 cocktails from 3 unique recipes.  Recipes will include step-by-step instructions using housemade specialty syrups and fresh fruit.

Everything I found in the box sounds SO tasty! Who wouldn't want a drink with Kumquat-Raspberry Nectar? Or Pink Peppercorn-Strawberry Syrup? I'd never say "no" to a drink with Thyme-Cucumber Syrup. Give me ALL the cucumber! Plus, nectarine syrup?? Can I drink that by itself?
I also love the fact that they send bitters in small dropper bottles. Bitters are ridiculously expensive, even when you make them yourself, but they add so much to a drink with one little drop. This box has Peychaud's and also Celery bitters. Celery sounds weird but I'm totally game to try it. Also included are orange wheels and sugar cubes.
Besides all those housemade syrups, all the fruit needed is included for all three recipes.
First up, Kumquat Whynot? I picked this one first because it had the most things that I would like. That being the nectarine syrup and the kumquat-raspberry nectar. I dug out our shaker and got down to business.
This one was also the quickest because it didn't require any fruit. I liked it! It's on the sweet side but not too sweet. I like sweet, fruity drinks but my husband doesn't so this was his least favorite. But definitely still drinkable.
As a side note, if you want to be super professional, Shake & Spoon has even recommended glassware for serving the drinks. I don't have many special glasses so I couldn't show them off in the drinkware they're supposed to be in.
Next came Pink Peppercorn Potion. I can't resist some good alliteration so with some pink peppercorn-strawberry syrup and some lemon juice, I got down to business. This is a nice mix of tart and sweet. I tried it once with the champagne and once with vodka and both versions were excellent. I might just love that peppercorn-strawberry syrup a little too much. Mmm!
Last but most definitely not least is the Time After Thyme. This is crisp and refreshing drink with grapefruit juice, celery bitters and thyme-cucumber syrup. This was handsdown my husbands favorite. It's an interesting combination of flavors but they totally worked. I was glad the thyme was kept to a minimum because it can be overpowering. None of that here, though. Super tasty!

VERDICT: Of the three drinks, the Pink Peppercorn was my favorite. My husband liked the Time after Thyme the best. When I started making the drinks, I tried making just one but it's much easier if you at least do two at once. If you read the recipes, they'll give you tips on what works best as well. I should have looked more closely. My only quibble was that the one grapefruit didn't have enough juice for four drinks, even with my super amazing juicer thing that I love. It didn't matter because I had other grapefruits. All three drinks were very good and if I could find some of these syrups elsewhere I'd definitely snag some.

The BEST part is the unique and interesting syrups you get to play with! I made two of every drink (one for me and one for hubs) and then I used the leftovers to experiment with other alcohols. Basically they make everything irresistible! The Pink Peppercorn-Strawberry is so great.
