Popsugar Must Have July 2016 Subscription Box Review and $5 Off Coupon

The Popsugar Must Have box is one of my favorite subscriptions. It's on the more expensive side at $40 a box but the contents tend to be pretty fun overall. I've discovered and used a majority of what I've received. Since the focus is on full size products, it's also different than most of the sampling boxes I get. If I ever get tired of subscription boxes, this is the one box I would keep.
This month was definitely not optimal for me but there are plenty more boxes coming up for me to enjoy!

The Cost: $39.95/month

What You Get: Full size, premium products dealing with Home, Fashion, Fitness, Beauty and Food!

Michael Stars Porcelain Skinny Scarf in White- This is made of 55% Cotton and 45% Viscose. This is the kind of scarf I like. It's not so much fabric that it bunches up horribly around my neck. I have a short neck and some of these big knit scarfs make me look like I'm choking. It's a little weird to have a scarf in a summer box BUT guess what you can do with it? Tie it around your sunhat! I did that and it's so cute with the tails hanging down the back. I should have taken a photo.
Value: $21
Joe Chips Classic Potato Chips with Sea Salt- Hm. Potato chips. Kinda boring since they aren't a fun flavor. Meh.
Value: $2

Sachajuan Hair in the Sun- This is a leave-in serum that can be used on wet or dry hair. It has a minor amount of "hold" to it, as well. It's mainly for protecting your hair from the sun's UVA rays that will fade out your color. It uses polysilicone-19 as a thin protective layer that absorbs damaging UV irradiation that would otherwise discolor and weaken hair strands. Sounds interesting. I know my hair always seems to be extra crunchy after a day in the sun. I've never thought of putting sunscreen on it, though.
Value: $32
Sunnylife Inflatable Drink Holder Pool Float- "Allow your personal Swan butler to deliver up to 4 refreshing beverages as you luxuriate on your preferred floatation device. Created with durable PVC and including a puncture repair kit (just-in-case)."
I don't have a pool (not many people do around here) but my in-laws live on a lake so this might be just the thing they never knew they needed! It's really quite large, though with no in-depth pool toy knowledge I can't say how sturdy it is. It does come with a little patch kit.
Value: $18
Pintrill Pineapple Pin- A pineapple pin. Pineapples seem to be one of those decorating themes you either really love or... just don't care about. I'm in the "don't care" camp with this one. I do however have a friend who is slightly obsessed (you should see her living room) so she'll appreciate this.
Value: $12
European Wax Center Oh My Brow! Brow Highlighter- Apply along the brow bone and above the arch, blending with the sponge end. I've really been getting into brows since we got that Brow Envy kit last year. I don't have a brow highlighter and it's probably not essential but I'm totally going to use it.
Value: $19
House of Pom Cocktail Napkins- Emoji cocktail napkins. These are cotton and I imagine that washing them will ruin them completely. Also, there seems to be a disconnect. The person who would want and enjoy cotton napkins is not the person who would love emoji decorated items. It's like mashing a 40 year old with a 17 year old. Huh.
Value:

$20 Trove Gift Card- This is a special extra. It's so special I forgot to take a photo of it. Whoops. Troveup.com is a place where you can design your own jewelry line and sell it or you can buy jewelry designed by others. I think that's what it is. Either way $20 doesn't go very far so I won't be using it.

VERDICT: This was a pretty eclectic box, I have to admit. It's definitely not on my favorites list, that's for sure. But considering in my three years of subscribing, that puts my list of dud boxes up to three, Popsugar is still doing pretty well for me. Still, I'll only use three items out of this box and none of them will likely get regular use- the hair treatment, the scarf and the brow highlighter. The other things will find better homes elsewhere. And seriously, plain potato chips?! I can't think of any snack more boring than that. And I don't even like those weird raw, vegan snack bar things that pop up occasionally!

If you would like to sign up for Popsugar Must Have, you can do that here. If you sign up now, you'll receive this exact box. So if you want it, go for it! If you don't then wait til the website says the first box you receive will be August. My birthday month! Yay! Oh, and use coupon code MUSTHAVE5 for $5 off your first box!

What did you think of this box? I still wonder why they would put a pool toy in a box when pools are so far from being something everyone has it's not even funny.  A scarf? Okay, everyone has a neck. But a pool? Not so much.

  1. I thought the July box was a bit chintzy and juvenile, ditto for the Mini box with the squeeze packet of sunscreen, but WOW! I racked up on the 2 Mystery Boxes I bought!! One had repeats, very nice things, but the other had all new products for me. I think, but am not certain, that some of my items in one box came from one or more of the LE boxes I didn't buy. No pretty sarong though. ( or that white purse LOL).

    1. Sounds like you got some good ones!! I didn't get any because I figured I have way too much stuff as it is. But I like those clear magnetic frames! If I'd known those would be in there, I probably would have snagged one or two just in case one showed up. :)
