Put a Bow on It is a Canadian women's lifestyle subscription box. If you want to be surprised every month (or surprise someone else), it's a lot of fun. You really have NO idea what will be in the box which makes it really hard to resist tearing into right away when it arrives. Put a Bow On It also offers two different box sizes in order to fit your budget. This review is for the Premium box.
Every month has a theme and November is "Kiss and Makeup." One thing Put a Bow On It does so well is themes. They're always creative and the products tend to fit really well within it's parameters. The information card included announces the theme and describes what you've received. I had a photo of it but I have no where it went. It's been a little hectic around here.
The Cost: The Premium Box is $59.99 CAD and the Deluxe box is $39.99 CAD plus shipping
What You Get: You'll find goodies ranging from jewelry and makeup to home decor, technology and baking. The Premium box has a value up to $150 CAD and the Deluxe up to $100 CAD.
Manna Kadar Lip Locked Lip Stain Gloss- I really like this shade, it's totally my color. Made with vitamin A and E and paraben free!
Value: $31CAD
Manna Kadar Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush/Highlighter/Eyeshadow- Manna Kadar needs to fix the packaging on this little one. I received this in a Birchbox and it also was exploded. This brand does tend to pop up in a lot of subscription boxes and I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere else. This is a champagne pink which I think I would normally love but I can imagine the dust storm that would occur if I unwrapped and opened it. I'm sure they would replace it but I have a sneaking suspicion it would just happen again.
Value: $24CAD
Danielle Contour Brush Set- A blush brush and an angled contour brush. I don't really like the angled one I'm using now so I'm going to see if this one makes me happier.
Value: $18CAD
Danielle Cosmetic Bag- This is so pretty. I love the rosy glitter! This is nicely lined and perfect for storing the days makeup.
Value: $11.50CAD
"The Light Between Oceans" by M.L. Stedman- There's a movie based on this book, too. Here's the blurb from Goodreads:
"After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.
Tom, whose records as a lighthouse keeper are meticulous and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel has taken the tiny baby to her breast. Against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them."
Well, that got me hooked! As soon as I finish my Kate Elliot book, I have to find out what happens in this one.
Value: $12CAD
Godiva Chocolate Pearls- Mine are milk chocolate which isn't my favorite but my mom will be thrilled to take them off my hands. This is such a good inclusion, too, especially in conjuction with the book.
Value: $5CAD
VERDICT: It's always interesting finding out what new boxes will be like. I think it takes about three months to get a good feel for any subscription box and to decide if you'll like it or not. Put a Bow On It is creative with great themes. Brands are in the middle range and the content is useful and fun. I do think I'd like to see a little more brand variety within the box but everything here fits the theme so well. From what I can tell, it seems you'll get different items in the Premium and Deluxe boxes so you could technically subscribe to both without overlap.
You can subscribe to Put A Bow On It here. If you subscribe now, you'll start with the January box. Canadians have an extra bonus of being able to gift subscriptions but that option is not available in the US. Use code BITSANDBOXES10 for 10% off your first month.
