PB&Jealous is one of my new favorite subscriptions. Every month they send small batch nut butters, jams and jellies and/or nut related snacks and goodies. It's a lesson in mouthwatering deliciousness and restraint. This month was "WOW!" one the peanut butter side and "/swoon" on the jamtasticness.
One of the wonderful things about PB&Jealous is the ability to customize your box (to an extent). First, you get to choose if you want only Sweet items or if you want a dash of Spicy in your box. I choose Sweet Things Only because I don't like spicy things. Second, if you have allergies, just mention them when you sign up and you'll be taken care of. This also means every box may be a little different. I have an issue with grape since it's a migraine trigger so anything grape that would go in the normal box is swapped out with something else for me. How awesome is that?! Really awesome!
There are also two box sizes, so depending on the size of your family, you can get the most appropriate one. I get the bigger box even though there's only two of us because we go through sandwich fixings pretty quickly.
The last box I got was the Welcome Box. It has a little bit of everything from previous boxes and it was SO fantastic. You can see what I received here. I was so happy I was subscribed. Seriously.
The Cost: $34.95/month plus $5 shipping for the Big Box, $26.95/month plus $5 shipping for Mini.
What You Get: The Big Box will have 5-8 artisan products, an average of over $40 in value. The Mini has 3-5 artisan products, an average of $30 in value. Both boxes will include a handcrafted artisan nut butter and a delicious, all natural jam, jelly or preserve. Additional products can be anything from honey and fruit butters to syrups and organic snacks.
The Peanut Principle S'more's Peanut Butter- The other day I was at a new store and saw some interestingly flavored peanut butters. I wanted to get one so much but I refrained because I didn't want to pay 8 dollars for it. I knew this box was coming and I didn't know what would be in it beyond at least one nut butter and I figured I should wait. I'm glad I did because this box is PACKED with fun peanut butters! This one is S'more's and has peanut butter, dark chocolate and marshmallow. It's really thick and I think I need to really stir it well since the bottom looks like it has more marshmallow than the top does but it tastes pretty great.
Value: $8
Mt. Hope Farms Strawberry-Lavender Fruit Spread- I really wanted to pop this open and try it immediately but I've got a little Strawberry Jam left from the last box I need to finish first. This spread is made with local Oregon strawberries and organic lavender with farm grown and locally sourced ingredients. This shop has so many great flavors of jam available including Strawberry Rhubarb, my all time favorite!
Value: $8
Jamazing Strawberry Shortcake Jam- Made in small batches with Minnesota strawberries! I thought this might have something extra in it to account for the "shortcake" part of it's name but it's just real strawberry jam. I can't tell you how badly I want to open it and just smell it... but I can't have four jars open at once!
Value: $5
Big Spoon Roasters Nut Butter Bars- I received two bars. One is Cherry Pecan and the other is Apricot Pepita. These are DENSE bars. I ate half of one and was full so I passed it on to my husband. The Cherry Pecan is made with sweet, dark-roasted pecans with tart, unsweetened dried cherries, chunks of organic stone-ground Askinosie dark chocolate, whole grains, grass-fed whey protein, and raw wildflower honey. The tartness of the cherries cuts perfectly through the nuttiness. I haven't tried the Apricot one yet but it has fresh-roasted pepitas (pumpkin seeds) with fresh-roasted cocoa nibs, whole grains and dried apricots.
Value: $7 (total)
All AmeriCAN Canning Company Brandied Cherry Berry- I've totally fallen in love with this company. They have some of the best jams ever! This one is made with Michigan Cherries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries. Plus brandy! This is delicious! The cherries are still whole and it's just... aaahhh! The most perfect flavor ever. If you love jam you have to check out their jam shop and just LOOK at what they have! How am I supposed to resist a Blackberry Basil? Or Kiwi Lime Ginger?! Can you imagine how good that would be on scones? /drool I need to start making my own jam or something.
Value: $3?
All American Canning Company in Rosemary Cherry- I can't believe I haven't opened this yet. I mean, I can, but it's been SO HARD not to. I have so much jam open already so I shouldn't. But I want to. Of course, these are small jars so they'd go fast, right? *runs to kitchen* Omg, forget crappy cranberries. This stuff is going to be amazing on turkey sandwiches. Absolutely fantastic!
Value: $3
The Peanut Principle Brownie Batter Peanut Butter- These are small 4oz jars of tasty peanut butters. This is made with peanuts, dark chocolate, sugar, cocoa powder, flour and safflower oil. The reviews say it tastes just like brownie batter and is thick enough to just eat off the spoon while melting nicely if stirred into oatmeal. Can you imagine what it must taste like in a protein shake? I'm going to have to try it that way.
Value: $3.49
The Peanut Principle Apple Crisp Peanut Butter- I think this might be my favorite one! I love the apple pie spices in it. And it's crunchy! It has granola, toasted brown rice and apple pieces in it. So good!
Value: $3.49
The Peanut Principle Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Peanut Butter- Okay, so maybe the Apple Crisp is a tie with this one. This cookie dough peanut butter is really good, too. I had to stir it like crazy because everything settles on the bottom which is guess is normal. I think I'll store them upside down once I've stirred them up really well. The dark chocolate chips and brown sugar totally make it! It tastes like cookies! I imagine I will end up eating this right off the spoon. Lucky me, I think I accidentally got two instead of just one!
Value: $3.49/ea
Homeplate Creamy Peanuts with Honey- This is also delicious. Super smooth and creamy with honey added. Yum! I received four packets of 32g (2T- one serving) each. That's a lot of peanut butter! I like to take these on the plane with me or camping.
Value: $1.25/ea. ($5)
VERDICT: I cannot believe how much stuff was in this box! I definitely feel like I got my money's worth and I liked getting so many different sample flavors from The Peanut Principle. I think it might take me awhile to go through them all so that's nice! The jams are fun and flavorful and I like the portability of the Homeplate packs and the Big Spoon nut bars. So much variety I'm almost overwhelmed! I hope I get a jar of honey some time.
The boxes are sold out for the month but you can sign up to be notified when spots for next month open up right here. Use code JEALOUS10 to get $10 off your first month! So worth it! I think I miiiight switch to the smaller box (maybe!) because there is SO much in the regular size box. But if I did then I'd just be missing out on new things so I probably won't...
What do you think of this box? I think it'd be a lot of fun for families since it makes sandwiches a veritable taste adventure. :)

Wow! This looks amazing... Alas (sigh) in our efforts to eat healthier, less processed foods, the PB in my house is made from peanuts only plus a teeny bit of salt. We may have an old grape jelly in the fridge but no bread. I actually just had a tablespoon of my natural PB with some dark chocolate chips for a snack. Not the same as my old Jif but I does the trick. I will live vivaciously through your reviews. :)
ReplyDeleteI got that kind of PB last month! Peanuts and salt, that's it! And while tasty, it's definitely not Jif (or Skippy, which I prefer since it's softer). While I may not be healthier, I am trying to eat less (yay, weight loss!) and peanut butter is a whopper for calories. I have looked longingly at my mini jars and passed them by for something more substantial. As a midget (5'1") the 1200 calories I am alloted is scarcely anything! It's working, though. :D
DeleteI admire your ability to choose less processed and healthier foods. While I don't do fast food, I do love (LOVE!) my carbs.... :(
Also, life happened (along with my garden) and the blog is taking a back seat. Although with all the time I'm spending working outside, I'm going to be kinda bummed if we actually do sell the place. But it will look fabulous for sure if we have to.
